This book was released on 1982 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Note reports on the first year's progress on a project to develop a prototype methodology for assessing the effects of varying certain logistics policies and resource levels on the peacetime material readiness and wartime sustainability of the U.S. air forces, in order that support resources may be better planned and justified during the annual Planning, Programming and Budgeting System (PPBS) exercises. Part I of the Note is an introduction, including a discussion of the logistics systems the authors are attempting to present in their methodology. Part II describes the extensions they have made to Dyna-METRIC. This section also includes a brief description of the version of Dyna-METRIC they modified. Part III discusses the AWARES model, including how it works, how it might be used, and its current status. (Author).

Download or read book Conceptual Design for an Army Logistics Assessment extended ALA X Methodology written by J. H. Bigelow and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Note describes a conceptual design for Army Logistics Assessment--Extended (ALA-X), a methodology for assessing the readiness and sustainability of the U.S. Army. The methodology is intended for use in the Planning, Programming, and Budgeting process, so that those parts of the Army program dealing with logistics functions and resources can be better prepared and justified. The ALA-X methodology will relate resources among 38 categories of logistics resources to specific measures of combat capability and will treat them simultaneously so that tradeoffs and substitutions can be performed.

Book Forecasting Wartime Depot level Component Workloads

Download or read book Forecasting Wartime Depot level Component Workloads written by Nancy Y. Moore and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Navy needs accurate forecasts of wartime depot-level component repair workloads to size facilities, choose repair sources, and plan future depot modernization efforts. This Note describes and demonstrates a model that can be used to forecast wartime depot-level component repair workloads. This analysis highlights potential tradeoffs among stock, distribution, and repair, and demonstrates that the timing and magnitude of the depot workload are sensitive to distribution and repair times as well as sortie and attrition rates. The study suggests that improved component management systems that shorten the repair and transportation pipelines would enhance the ability of the Navy's depots to support the operational forces in wartime. Keywords: Forecasting, Logistics Management, Logistics Planning, Spare Parts, Maintenance, Repair, and Work Measurement.

Book Examination of the U S Air Force s Aircraft Sustainment Needs in the Future and Its Strategy to Meet Those Needs

Download or read book Examination of the U S Air Force s Aircraft Sustainment Needs in the Future and Its Strategy to Meet Those Needs written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-11-17 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability of the United States Air Force (USAF) to keep its aircraft operating at an acceptable operational tempo, in wartime and in peacetime, has been important to the Air Force since its inception. This is a much larger issue for the Air Force today, having effectively been at war for 20 years, with its aircraft becoming increasingly more expensive to operate and maintain and with military budgets certain to further decrease. The enormously complex Air Force weapon system sustainment enterprise is currently constrained on many sides by laws, policies, regulations and procedures, relationships, and organizational issues emanating from Congress, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Air Force itself. Against the back-drop of these stark realities, the Air Force requested the National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academies, under the auspices of the Air Force Studies Board to conduct and in-depth assessment of current and future Air Force weapon system sustainment initiatives and recommended future courses of action for consideration by the Air Force. Examination of the U.S. Air Force's Aircraft Sustainment Needs in the Future and Its Strategy to Meet Those Needs addresses the following topics: Assess current sustainment investments, infrastructure, and processes for adequacy in sustaining aging legacy systems and their support equipment. Determine if any modifications in policy are required and, if so, identify them and make recommendations for changes in Air Force regulations, policies, and strategies to accomplish the sustainment goals of the Air Force. Determine if any modifications in technology efforts are required and, if so, identify them and make recommendations regarding the technology efforts that should be pursued because they could make positive impacts on the sustainment of the current and future systems and equipment of the Air Force. Determine if the Air Logistics Centers have the necessary resources (funding, manpower, skill sets, and technologies) and are equipped and organized to sustain legacy systems and equipment and the Air Force of tomorrow. Identify and make recommendations regarding incorporating sustainability into future aircraft designs.
