Book STUG III Sturmgeschutz III Ausfuhrung A to G SdKfz 142 Enthusiasts Manual

Download or read book STUG III Sturmgeschutz III Ausfuhrung A to G SdKfz 142 Enthusiasts Manual written by Mark Healy and published by Haynes Publishing UK. This book was released on 2019-12-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The German Sturmgeschütz series of assault guns was a successful and cost-effective range of armoured fighting vehicles; of which some 10,000 were built during the Second World War. Based on the chassis of the Panzer III tank; the turret was replaced by an armoured fixed superstructure fitted with a more powerful 7.5cm StuK 40 L/48 gun. Originally intended as a mobile assault weapon for infantry support; the StuG was constantly modified and saw extensive use on all battlefronts as an assault gun and tank destroyer. Its fixed superstructure with limited-traverse mounting for the main armament was simpler and cheaper to build than the turret of the battle tank; plus its low height meant it was easy to camouflage and conceal. Towards the end of the war; more StuGs were built than tanks. StuGs also saw combat when used by several Axis allies; notably Romania and Finland. They were also exported to Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, and Spain. The Soviet Union gave some of their captured German vehicles to Syria in the 1950s, which continued to use them up until the War over Water against Israel in the mid-1960s. By the time of the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War in 1967; all of them had been either destroyed, stripped for spare parts, or placed on the Golan Heights as static pillboxes.

Book Stug III and Stug IV

Download or read book Stug III and Stug IV written by Dennis Oliver and published by Pen & Sword Military. This book was released on 2019-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last years of the Second World War the Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) and Sturmgeschütz IV (StuG IV) played a vital role as assault guns during the German army's struggle to block the Allied advance on the Western Front. As the Wehrmacht's tank forces declined, these armored vehicles were thrown into every defensive operation. They are not as well known as the Tigers and Panthers, but German resistance would have been much weaker without them. They were also among the most frequently encountered German armored vehicles on the battlefields, which is why they are such a fascinating subject for Dennis Oliver in this volume in the TankCraft series He uses archive photos and extensively researched color illustrations to examine the StuG III and StuG IV deployed by the German army and the Waffen-SS during these doomed campaigns. A key section of his book displays available model kits and aftermarket products, complemented by a gallery of beautifully constructed and painted models in various scales. Technical details as well as modifications introduced during production and in the field are also examined providing everything the modeler needs to recreate an accurate representation of these historic armored vehicles.

Book Sturmgesch tz III

Download or read book Sturmgesch tz III written by Peter Müller and published by . This book was released on 2010-01-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first volume of Assault Gun III: Backbone of the German Infantry puts the weapon in its historical context and provides information about the production and use of the Sturmgeschütz III in combat. Volume II will provide information for identification of variants and their production months. Both volumes together will give the readers a full survey of the technical development of assault guns and assault howitzers. For this publication there were about 400 historical documents and document series processed, selected from the many which were available. These chosen documents form the basis for a new historical perspective on this important Wehrmacht weapon system. The documentation is illustrated by some 125 photographs, some of them hitherto unpublished, 70 graphs and plans about the Assault Gun and some 500 source references. To make navigation easy, documents and illustrations are arranged in chapters that follow the historic timeline: technical development of the Sturmgeschütz, series production, the variants of the assault guns and their deployment with Heer, Luftwaffe and Waffen-SS. Rounding off the publication is a section giving details of production, acceptance and delivery of the Sturmgeschütz. For the first time it is possible to research the production numbers accurately and to express them in a way the reader can understand. A list of references, covering four pages, closes the appendix of the documentation. The list of the used sources is, because of its size, not printed in the book but is available for download on the publisher's homepage.

  • Pages : 258 pages

Download or read book Panzerartillerie written by Thomas Anderson and published by Osprey Publishing. This book was released on 2019-03-19 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The German Panzerartillerie was one of the key components of the Panzer divisions that were the spearhead of the German forces in the years when they overran most of Western Europe and reached as far as the gates of Moscow in the East. Warfare in the age of Blitzkrieg required fast-moving, mobile artillery that could support forward units at the front line, and the Panzerartillerie provided that for the Wehrmacht. The Allies had no answer or equivalent to them until the US entry into the war. Drawing on original material from German archives and private collections, including some images that have never been published before, German armor expert Thomas Anderson explores the formation and development of this force from its early days in the 1930s, through the glory days of Blitzkrieg warfare to its eventual decline in the face of the challenges of the Eastern Front.

Book T 34 vs StuG III

  • ISBN : 1472832353

Download or read book T 34 vs StuG III written by Steven J. Zaloga and published by Osprey Publishing. This book was released on 2019-08-20 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a noted authority, this fully illustrated book pits the StuG III assault gun in Finnish hands against the Soviet T-34-85 tank in the bitter armored clashes in Finland at the height of World War II. Featuring specially commissioned artwork and an array of archive photographs, T-34 vs StuG III is the absorbing story of the parts played by Soviet and Finnish armor in the epic battles in Finland during June and July 1944. In the summer of 1944, the Red Army staged a massive armored assault up the Karelian Isthmus with the intent of eliminating any remaining German and Finnish forces facing the Leningrad region. Most of the Soviet units sent into Finland were new to the region, moving mainly from the fighting in the Leningrad area. As a result, they had the latest types of Soviet equipment including the new T-34-85 tank. Germany refused to sell the Finns new tanks without a reinforced military alliance, but in 1943 began selling them a few dozen StuG III assault guns. This made the StuG III battalion the most modern and powerful element of the Finnish armored division, and it saw very extensive combat in the June–July summer battles.
