Book Design and Modeling of a New Electro Hydraulic Actuator

Download or read book Design and Modeling of a New Electro Hydraulic Actuator written by Vladimir Pastrakuljic and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis addresses the issues of design and mathematical model identification of an advanced hydraulic system referred to as Electro Hydraulic Actuator (EHA). In the design part, insights into system design methodology are presented and used for the EHA prototype manufacturing. To get better knowledge of the system behavior, extensive open loop tests were performed. Test results are presented in the time and frequency domain, and it was concluded that system behavior is nonlinear. In the modeling part, a nonlinear mathematical model of the EHA is derived. Some of the unknown model parameters had to be identified experimentally by optimization. The last step in the system mathematical modeling was open and closed loop model validation using the experimental data. Proposed nonlinear mathematical model gives good correspondence with experimental data and can be used for system studying or controller design. Performed test show that the EHA system has high positioning accuracy (0.01mm), fairly high bandwidth (23 Hz with 20kg inertial load) and is easy to control. It shows significant benefits when compared to conventional hydraulic systems in the areas of control, efficiency and physical dimensions.

Book Research and Demonstration of a Digital Flight Control System Electro hydraulic Servo Control Valve Actuator Experimental Model

Download or read book Research and Demonstration of a Digital Flight Control System Electro hydraulic Servo Control Valve Actuator Experimental Model written by D. S. Seidel and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report discusses the applicability of various electrohydraulic servo valve (and servo actuator) configurations for use in digital flight control systems. The research and de velopmental effort was conducted in five phases: Initial research and analysis, interface study, choice of experimental model configuration, experimental model design analysis, and experimental model physical design and evaluation. During the initial research and analysis phase, three servo actuator configurations capable of response to serial digital information and one servo actuator configuration capable of response to parallel digital information were investigated. The configurations responsive to serial digital information were termed incremental servo actuators and operated essentially in a bangbang mode during each actuation cycle. The configurations responsive to parallel digital information were termed parallel binary servo actuators (PBSA). The PBSA configuration discussed in this report is an analog servo actuator configuration utilizing a multicoil torque motor for binary weighting and summation operations. (Author).

Book Computer Aided Design and Simulation Procedures of Electro hydraulic Servo Mechanisms

Download or read book Computer Aided Design and Simulation Procedures of Electro hydraulic Servo Mechanisms written by Qunhua Zhu and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydraulic servo mechanisms combine hydraulic power and feedback techniques to achieve rapid, accurate regulation. In recent years with the development of electronic technology, electro-hydraulic servo control systems have found more usage in industry and military systems of all types. This thesis deals with the mathematical modelling and computer simulation of an electro-hydraulic servovalve controlled motor for both speed and position schemes. As a preliminary investigation, these systems are simplified to achieve insight into the physical problem. In the speed control scheme, linear equations are employed to describe the system. However in the position control scheme, the equations describing the system are nonlinear. Control theory is used to analyse the system and thereafter simulation programs for both speed control and position control are designed to investigate dynamic behaviour and simulated results of each system are shown graphically. Some improved control concepsions are also given in this thesis. In speed control scheme, a slope command signal is utilised instead of a sudden change of command signal, and this improvement achieves the reduction of the system overshoot and oscillation. In position control, which is a variable torque system, so called 'equigain' and 'varigain' control schemes are established to improve the accuracy of trajectory control. Finally recommendations for further work are presented with references for initiating these enquires.

Book Design and Validation of an Electro hydraulic Pressure control Valve and Closed loop Controller

Download or read book Design and Validation of an Electro hydraulic Pressure control Valve and Closed loop Controller written by Jerry Boza and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electro-hydraulic pressure-control valves are used in many applications, such as manufacturing equipment, agricultural machinery, and aircrafts to name a few. They are often used to actuate hydraulic clutches, such as those found in power shift transmissions. A traditional pressure-control valve with open-loop control algorithm is typically used in clutch applications. This scheme often results in inconsistent or undesirable system behavior due to the nature of open-loop control as well as the nonlinear system dynamics and uncertainties. In this research two new electro-hydraulic pressure-control valves were designed in order to decouple the valve and control port (hydraulic) dynamics. This was achieved by removing the regulated pressure balancing force utilized in traditional pressure-control valves. Different closed-loop controllers were designed and tested in parallel in order to achieve the desired steady-state and dynamic regulated pressure response. A nonlinear dynamic model was developed for each valve then used to compare the performance characteristics of the valves. Linear analysis was performed and various control techniques were studied from classical PID control to modern optimal control. The model was also used to predict performance of the closed-loop controllers prior to experimental testing and to validate experimentally tuned controllers afterwards. Prototype valves were fabricated in order to validate the model and to test the controller designs experimentally. Different valve and controller combinations were compared to a traditional pressure-control valve utilizing open-loop control through typical industry performance tests. This study found that a valve with a traditional pressure-control pilot and a main stage spool with no pressure balancing force, along with a gain scheduled PID controller, outperformed the traditional valve in all areas tested. This approach is also feasible within the existing infrastructure of most applications where the benchmark traditional valve is currently used.

Book High Performance Control of a Transmission Based Servo Actuator System

Download or read book High Performance Control of a Transmission Based Servo Actuator System written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High performance actuation is a key factor in the industrial robot area. The transmission based servo actuator system (TBA) is a new type of robot actuator with a brushless DC servo motor and a three speed discrete variable transmission (DVT). The proposed TBA design can match the performance of a typical hydraulic actuator with compact size and weight. The TBA is a typical hybrid dynamic system consisting of three continuous dynamic systems and a discrete state controller. This dissertation addresses the fundamental problems associated with the TBA system control from a hybrid system point of view. A detailed dynamic model of the TBA is developed. Due to the complexity of the TBA system, an exact model is unwieldy for control design and analysis purposes. In this research, the TBA system is simplified into a hybrid system with three second order linear time invariant systems, on which all the controls are developed. Dynamic stability of the TBA is critical for its function as a servoactuator. For a hybrid system, the stability problem has much broader range of issues than a purely continuous system. In general, the plant stability and the subsystem stability are independent. For example, a hybrid system with stable subsystems can be unstable for certain switch sequences; on the other hand, a hybrid system with unstable subsystems can be stabilized by proper switch signals. In this dissertation, a sufficient condition is established for stability of the TBA system. It is proven that the hybrid system is stable under asynchronous switching if there exists a common Lyapunov function for all subsystems. It is proven that the TBA subsystems can have a common Lypunov function by designing appropriate feedback controller. The feedback controller to stabilize the TBA can be transformed into a PID equivalent controller because the subsystems are second order linear time invariant systems (LTI). The PID controller was then implemented and high performance in terms of position error and transient suppression has been achieved. The discrete state controller should be stable, which means that its output should be consistent if the hybrid system is subjected to disturbances. A common phenomenon is that the state changes back and forth very frequently near the switch boundary, which is referred to as transition instability. This research proposes a switch strategy consisting of two boundaries to achieve the transition stability, and it is proved that the proposed switch strategy is transition stable. An optimal controller is designed and difficulties associated with implementation are generated. Based on the proposed control methods, a multithread real time control software has been developed to achieve a deterministic control loop sampling. The control software is developed in C/C++ under Real Time Application Interface (RTAI), which provides a real time programming environment in a normal Linux operating system. With the proposed controller and a prototype TBA test system, TBA stability and control performance was demonstrated and evaluated. The following results were observed: 1. Steady state error of 0.005 degrees at the emulated robust manipulator shoulder pitch joint. 2. Control loop sampling period of 1 millisecond with negligible delay. 3. Transient disturbances associated with the gear shifting of ~20% in most cases. 4. The methods and applications used in this dissertation can be extended to a large range of hybrid dynamic systems in terms of control system design, analysis and implementation. This research contributes to the literature and research knowledge base in the following ways: 1. Exploration and solution of the control problems of TBA's in the hybrid system control context. 2. Expansion of the fundamental understanding of the practical control issues of TBA's. 3. Analysis, design, and implementation of a real time TBA control system, and identification of the most suitable control strategy for the TBA. 4. The development of analysis and control methods that can be extended to a much broader range of hybrid dynamic systems.
