Book Subspace Identification for Linear Systems

Download or read book Subspace Identification for Linear Systems written by Peter van Overschee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Subspace Identification for Linear Systems focuses on the theory, implementation and applications of subspace identification algorithms for linear time-invariant finite- dimensional dynamical systems. These algorithms allow for a fast, straightforward and accurate determination of linear multivariable models from measured input-output data. The theory of subspace identification algorithms is presented in detail. Several chapters are devoted to deterministic, stochastic and combined deterministic-stochastic subspace identification algorithms. For each case, the geometric properties are stated in a main 'subspace' Theorem. Relations to existing algorithms and literature are explored, as are the interconnections between different subspace algorithms. The subspace identification theory is linked to the theory of frequency weighted model reduction, which leads to new interpretations and insights. The implementation of subspace identification algorithms is discussed in terms of the robust and computationally efficient RQ and singular value decompositions, which are well-established algorithms from numerical linear algebra. The algorithms are implemented in combination with a whole set of classical identification algorithms, processing and validation tools in Xmath's ISID, a commercially available graphical user interface toolbox. The basic subspace algorithms in the book are also implemented in a set of Matlab files accompanying the book. An application of ISID to an industrial glass tube manufacturing process is presented in detail, illustrating the power and user-friendliness of the subspace identification algorithms and of their implementation in ISID. The identified model allows for an optimal control of the process, leading to a significant enhancement of the production quality. The applicability of subspace identification algorithms in industry is further illustrated with the application of the Matlab files to ten practical problems. Since all necessary data and Matlab files are included, the reader can easily step through these applications, and thus get more insight in the algorithms. Subspace Identification for Linear Systems is an important reference for all researchers in system theory, control theory, signal processing, automization, mechatronics, chemical, electrical, mechanical and aeronautical engineering.

Book Approximation of Large Scale Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Approximation of Large Scale Dynamical Systems written by Athanasios C. Antoulas and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2009-06-25 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical models are used to simulate, and sometimes control, the behavior of physical and artificial processes such as the weather and very large-scale integration (VLSI) circuits. The increasing need for accuracy has led to the development of highly complex models. However, in the presence of limited computational accuracy and storage capabilities model reduction (system approximation) is often necessary. Approximation of Large-Scale Dynamical Systems provides a comprehensive picture of model reduction, combining system theory with numerical linear algebra and computational considerations. It addresses the issue of model reduction and the resulting trade-offs between accuracy and complexity. Special attention is given to numerical aspects, simulation questions, and practical applications.

Book Model Order Reduction Theory Research Aspects and Applications

Download or read book Model Order Reduction Theory Research Aspects and Applications written by Wilhelmus H. Schilders and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-27 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this book originated during the workshop “Model order reduction, coupled problems and optimization” held at the Lorentz Center in Leiden from S- tember 19–23, 2005. During one of the discussion sessions, it became clear that a book describing the state of the art in model order reduction, starting from the very basics and containing an overview of all relevant techniques, would be of great use for students, young researchers starting in the ?eld, and experienced researchers. The observation that most of the theory on model order reduction is scattered over many good papers, making it dif?cult to ?nd a good starting point, was supported by most of the participants. Moreover, most of the speakers at the workshop were willing to contribute to the book that is now in front of you. The goal of this book, as de?ned during the discussion sessions at the workshop, is three-fold: ?rst, it should describe the basics of model order reduction. Second, both general and more specialized model order reduction techniques for linear and nonlinear systems should be covered, including the use of several related numerical techniques. Third, the use of model order reduction techniques in practical appli- tions and current research aspects should be discussed. We have organized the book according to these goals. In Part I, the rationale behind model order reduction is explained, and an overview of the most common methods is described.

Book Vibration with Control

Download or read book Vibration with Control written by Daniel J. Inman and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-11-02 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers are becoming increasingly aware of the problems caused by vibration in engineering design, particularly in the areas of structural health monitoring and smart structures. Vibration is a constant problem as it can impair performance and lead to fatigue, damage and the failure of a structure. Control of vibration is a key factor in preventing such detrimental results. This book presents a homogenous treatment of vibration by including those factors from control that are relevant to modern vibration analysis, design and measurement. Vibration and control are established on a firm mathematical basis and the disciplines of vibration, control, linear algebra, matrix computations, and applied functional analysis are connected. Key Features: Assimilates the discipline of contemporary structural vibration with active control Introduces the use of Matlab into the solution of vibration and vibration control problems Provides a unique blend of practical and theoretical developments Contains examples and problems along with a solutions manual and power point presentations Vibration with Control is an essential text for practitioners, researchers, and graduate students as it can be used as a reference text for its complex chapters and topics, or in a tutorial setting for those improving their knowledge of vibration and learning about control for the first time. Whether or not you are familiar with vibration and control, this book is an excellent introduction to this emerging and increasingly important engineering discipline.

Book Linear State Space Control Systems

Download or read book Linear State Space Control Systems written by Robert L. Williams, II and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-02-09 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book blends readability and accessibility common to undergraduate control systems texts with the mathematical rigor necessary to form a solid theoretical foundation. Appendices cover linear algebra and provide a Matlab overivew and files. The reviewers pointed out that this is an ambitious project but one that will pay off because of the lack of good up-to-date textbooks in the area.
