This book was released on 2011-02-04 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written on the basis of the research done between 2008 and 2010 as part of the European Commission funded FREIGHTVISION project. The “FREIGHTVISION - Freight Transport 2050 Foresight” project was funded by the Directorate General MOVE to design a long term vision for European freight transport in 2050 and to identify actions and research to progress appropriate freight transport measures in Europe. The project was carried out as a foresight process encompassing four conferences in which the project team identified and developed with the aid of more than 100 experts an action plan for securing long term freight transport in Europe. The book provides insights into the freight transport visions and Backcasts identified for 2035 and 2050, issues which need to be addressed and measures which were assessed to be part of future paths to assure an economical, environmental, and social freight transport system.

Book iCity Transformative Research for the Livable Intelligent and Sustainable City

Download or read book iCity Transformative Research for the Livable Intelligent and Sustainable City written by Volker Coors and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-16 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book presents the exciting research results of the BMBF funded project iCity carried out at University of Applied Science Stuttgart to help cities to become more liveable, intelligent and sustainable, to become a LIScity. The research has been pursued with industry partners and NGOs from 2017 to 2020. A LIScity is increasingly digitally networked, uses resources efficiently, and implements intelligent mobility concepts. It guarantees the supply of its grid-bound infrastructure with a high proportion of renewable energy. Intelligent cities are increasingly human-centered, integrative, and flexible, thus placing the well-being of the citizens at the center of developments to increase the quality of life. The articles in this book cover research aimed to meet these criteria. The book covers research in the fields of energy (i.e. algorithms for heating and energy storage systems, simulation programs for thermal local heating supply, runtime optimization of combined heat and power (CHP), natural ventilation), mobility (i.e. charging distribution and deep learning, innovative emission-friendly mobility, routing apps, zero-emission urban logistics, augmented reality, artificial intelligence for individual route planning, mobility behavior), information platforms (i.e. 3DCity models in city planning: sunny places visualization, augmented reality for windy cities, internet of things (IoT) monitoring to visualize device performance, storing and visualizing dynamic energy data of smart cities), and buildings and city planning (i.e. sound insulation of sustainable facades and balconies, multi-camera mobile systems for inspection of tunnels, building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) as active façade elements, common space, the building envelopes potential in smart sustainable cities).

Book The Pedestrian and the City

Download or read book The Pedestrian and the City written by Carmen Hass-Klau and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pedestrian and the City provides an overview and insight into the development, politics and policies on walking and pedestrians: it includes the evolution of pedestrian-friendly housing estates in the 19th century up to the present day. Key issues addressed include the struggle of pedestrianization in town centers, the attempts to create independent pedestrian footpaths and the popularity of traffic calming as a powerful policy for reducing pedestrian accidents. Hass-Klau also covers the wider aspects of urban and transport planning, especially public transport, essential for promoting a pedestrian-friendly environment. The book includes pedestrian-friendly policies and guidelines from a number of European countries and includes case studies from the UK, Germany, Britain, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, the US and Canada, with further examples from ten additional countries. It also contains a unique collection of original photographs; including ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos of newly introduced pedestrian-friendly transport policies. As the pedestrian environment has become ever more crucial for the future of our cities, the book will be invaluable to students and practicing planners, geographers, transport engineers and local government officers.

Book Intelligent Solutions for Cities and Mobility of the Future

Download or read book Intelligent Solutions for Cities and Mobility of the Future written by Grzegorz Sierpiński and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-02 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an abundance of numerical analyses based on significant data sets, illustrating the close affiliation between intelligent solutions and future mobility. Which of the prediction models should be applied to improve road safety? How to solve selected issues with assessment of urban roundabouts? What is the future of shared mobility services? How to use spatial data in planning processes related to electromobility implementation? What is the right approach to the problem of road and rail traffic processes? This book provides you with answers to these and many other questions. With regard to the research results discussed and the selected solutions applied, the book primarily addresses the needs of three target groups: • Scientists and researchers (ITS field) • Local authorities (responsible for the transport systems at the urban and regional level) • Representatives of business (traffic strategy management) and industry (manufacturers of ITS components). The book gathers selected papers presented at the 17th “Transport Systems. Theory and Practice” Scientific and Technical Conference organised by the Department of Transport Systems, Traffic Engineering and Logistics at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. The conference was held on 20–21 September 2021 in Katowice (Poland). More details are available at www.TSTP.polsl.pl
