Book excerpt: On présente un modèle de comportement élastoplastique pour les sols partiellement saturés base sur une définition généralisée de la contrainte effective. Les propriétés caractéristiques du comportement des sols non saturés sont d'abord étudiées en analysant les résultats expérimentaux disponibles dans la littérature. Cette étude est menée de façon à mettre en évidence, d'une part, les différences et d'autre part, les analogies qui existent entre le comportement des sols saturés et celui des sols non saturés. On adopte une définition généralisée de la contrainte effective dont la formulation est issue d'un modèle microstructural (Taibi, 1994) qui a permis de mieux comprendre les phénomènes liés à la non saturation et de mettre en évidence les mécanismes mis en jeu. La pression capillaire, contribution de la pression interstitielle à la contrainte effective, est supposée isotrope. C'est une fonction hyperbolique de la pression interstitielle. Elle dépend, en outre, de la densité du matériau ainsi que de sa granulométrie. L'idée est d'utiliser cette définition généralisée de la contrainte effective dans le cadre de l'élastoplasticité. L'avantage de cette démarche est l'existence d'outils de calcul pour les sols saturés qu'on peut reprendre du moment qu'il s'agit d'établir une approche unifiée dans laquelle les sols saturés représentent un cas particulier des sols en général. Notre outil de départ est le modèle élastoplastique de Hujeux (1985) longuement utilise et valide pour les calculs saturés. L'examen des propriétés qui caractérisent le comportement des sols non saturés suggère l'introduction d'un ecrouissage capillaire qui nous permet de combler les insuffisances dues à l'utilisation, à lui seul, du principe de contrainte effective. Il est à noter que très peu de nouveaux paramètres sont introduits. Ainsi, la majeure partie des paramètres du modèle est déduite des essais classiques saturés ou secs. Des calculs qualitatifs sont présentes pour montrer que le modèle est en mesure de reproduire les principales caractéristiques du comportement des sols non saturés. En guise de validation quantitative des essais expérimentaux sur deux matériaux naturels différents (le limon de Jossigny et le limon de Sterrebeek) sont simulés. En dehors des aspects du comportement mécanique, on s'intéresse aussi aux écoulements dans les milieux poreux non saturés. On étudie deux domaines de saturation différents qui ont déjà été examinées par plusieurs auteurs. Le premier correspond aux faibles degrés de saturation ou l'on considère que l'air est continu et se trouve à la pression atmosphérique. Le second concerne des degrés de saturation élevés ou l'on suppose que l'air est emprisonné dans l'eau sous forme de bulles. Enfin, un problème aux limites est résolu à l'aide du code Gefdyn dans lequel le modèle est intégré. Le but principal est de montrer la faisabilité du calcul.
