Book Mobility Supporting Schemes over IPv6 Networks

Download or read book Mobility Supporting Schemes over IPv6 Networks written by Riaz Khan and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2017-09-22 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Communications - Multimedia, Internet, New Technologies, grade: 9.0, , language: English, abstract: The study provides quantitative results of the performance improvements obtained by new enhancements as observed by a single mobile user with respect to handoff latency, throughput, packet delivery ratio, average jitter etc. In addition to this, the signaling load costs associated with the performance improvements provided by the enhancements has been analyzed. The handover delay reduction approaches, specifically the Fast Handover Mobile Ipv6 FHMIPv6 have been shown. The thesis concludes with the analysis of simulation results, evaluating the MIPv6, HMIPv6 and FHMIPv6 performance and finally gives some suggestions for the future work. Mobile Internet Protocol (MIP), the current International Engineering Task Force (IETF) proposal for IP mobility support, represents a key element for future all-Internet Protocol (IP) wireless networks to provide service continuity while on the move within a multi-access environment. A performance evaluation of Mobile internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) and its proposed enhancements, that is Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6, Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 was conducted. And a combination of fast handover (FMIPv6) and hierarchical mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) was proposed and simulated by using the network simulator NS-2. The simulation scenario comprised two access routers and one mobile node that communicated in accordance with the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN standards.

Book Performance Analysis of Mobility Support in IPv4 IPv6 Mixed Networks

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Mobility Support in IPv4 IPv6 Mixed Networks written by Uday M. Narayanan and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popularity of Internet has increased exponentially over the last decade because of which the address depletion problem in the current version of Internet Protocol (IP), IPv4, has become of serious concern. This depletion has given rise to a newer version of the Internet protocol, Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). IPv6 provides sufficient address space to meet the predicted increase of the Internet. Since IPv4 has been widely deployed, it is required that the existing IPv4 and the newly added IPv6 can co-exist and interoperate. Various mechanisms have been proposed for supporting the interoperability between IPv4 and IPv6. However, they are mostly designed for a static environment. Mobility introduces a new dimension to the problem of IPv4/IPv6 transition and interoperability. The mobility support of mobile terminals in a mixed IPv4/IPv6 environment remains largely unexplored. In this thesis, various handoff scenarios for a dual stack mobile node with a predominant IPv6 home address roaming in a mixed IPv4/IPv6 environment are analyzed. How handoffs can be supported is investigated and the handoff procedures for all scenarios are derived. An analytical model for the handoff signaling cost analysis is designed. The handoff delay and handoff failure probability are calculated. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the signaling cost, handoff delay, and handoff failure probability of various handoff scenarios. Conclusions from this study can give great insights in designing new mobility-support mechanisms for IPv4/IPv6 transition and interoperability.

Book Improvement of IP Mobility Support in Vehicular Scenarios

Download or read book Improvement of IP Mobility Support in Vehicular Scenarios written by Laurence Banda and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-12-04 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents an IPv6-based mobility support scheme for vehicular scenarios. The focus of this study is on the modelling of an efficient network layer handover scheme suitable for vehicular network environments. In order to achieve this, a Vehicular Fast handovers for Mobile IPv6 (VFMIPv6) network layer protocol has been proposed. This scheme employs the predictive mode of Fast handovers for Mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6) standard. The proposed VFMIPv6 scheme aims at reducing the long handover latency currently affecting the performance of ITS delay-sensitive applications which lead to degradation in overall QoS. The proposed scheme adopts the concept of sectorisation using directional antennas. The GPS devices mounted on vehicles aid in keeping track of the vehicles' real-time mobility parameters so as to reduce the delay due to the Router discovery process. Furthermore, the proposed scheme exploits the huge IPv6 address space such that each On-board Unit and each Subnet Access Router is assigned a permanent global IPv6 address with which it is reachable regardless of its location. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the current standard solutions.
