Marrying him brought more than she had bargained for, from ongoing obsessions of a woman in the family past. Thinking that had been dealt with, she went with her husband to Paris to meet his sister and family, only to find herself in even more dramatic circumstances with obstacles to overcome. Bethany was thrust into danger, something she did not expect on a holiday, and it was a relief for her to visit her family in Western Australia again to recover before returning to Buenos Aires.

In her courageous book, the author offers compelling insight into the pain and destructive power of OCD as well as the resilience of a young woman determined to beat the odds. - Kirkus Reviews A fascinating read. Lily takes us deep into the heart of the illness but she is also a deft writer, and even the darkest moments are peppered with wit and wry observations. - James Lloyd, OCD-UK Remarkable. She writes with literary poise and a gift for mordant observation and self-deprecating humor that belie her youth. I hope this book finds a wide readership. - Scott Stossel, Washington Post It's a fascinating read... Buy the book! Buy the book! - Jo Good, BBC Radio London

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOTE: This is a special edition cover. The content is the same as the original work. She fears the dark. He rules it. Her dresses are too tight, her heels too tall. She laughs too loudly, eats without decorum, and mixes up most sayings in the book. Little do most know it's just a sparkly disguise, there to hide one panic attack at a time. Nobody can crack Gianna's facade . . . no one anyway, until he comes along. Most see a paragon of morality; a special agent upholding the law. In the New York underworld, others know him as a hustler, a killer, his nature as cold as the heart of ice in his chest. Christian Allister has always followed the life plan he'd envisioned in his youth, beneath the harsh lights of a frigid, damp cell. With a proclivity for order and the number three, he's never been tempted to veer off course. But perhaps one should never say never . . . One winter night and their lives intertwine. She hates him-his stone-cold demeanor, his arrogance and too-perceptive eye-but over the years, even as their games consist of insulting each other's looks and intelligence, she begins to live to play with him. Nowhere in Christian's plans had he ever prepared for Gianna. She's chaos embodied, not his type, and married, but none of that can stop his eyes from following her wherever she goes. All along, she doesn't even know that she's his-his frustration, his fascination. His maddest obsession.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between World wars One and two, England taxed the British country houses at such a rate that many were abandoned. Some were taken over by the army as hospitals for the wounded troops. After WW2, Staff was too hard to find to continue the farms. and there were many real farms caught up in this, this is a fictional story of such a one. After the bookshop and house granny owned were burnt down, James and Percy visited the house and farm the Haskell’s had previously owned. They brought back a family photo album from the house and Granny discovered she was part of that family. While the others were away on a holiday, she went to visit a second cousin she remembered from her youth to find out more about It. She wanted to know what her heritage was. To be mentioned in the same breath of the Haskell murdering family made her shiver, but she wanted to know more of the history and why they were like that, and why she never knew how it happened. By the time her family arrived back, she had discovered so much, she did not know if she wanted to find out any more, but she had yet to tell her grand- daughter and the others the story of the house, and of the later Haskell’s, and that she was related to them, that was the hardest part.

Book Be Obsessed or Be Average

Download or read book Be Obsessed or Be Average written by Grant Cardone and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the millionaire entrepreneur and New York Times bestselling author of The 10X Rule comes a bold and contrarian wake-up call for anyone truly ready for success. One of the 7 best motivational books of 2016, according to Inc. Magazine. Before Grant Cardone built five successful companies (and counting), became a multimillionaire, and wrote bestselling books... he was broke, jobless, and drug-addicted. Grant had grown up with big dreams, but friends and family told him to be more reasonable and less demanding. If he played by the rules, they said, he could enjoy everyone else’s version of middle class success. But when he tried it their way, he hit rock bottom. Then he tried the opposite approach. He said NO to the haters and naysayers and said YES to his burning, outrageous, animal obsession. He reclaimed his obsession with wanting to be a business rock star, a super salesman, a huge philanthropist. He wanted to live in a mansion and even own an airplane. Obsession made all of his wildest dreams come true. And it can help you achieve massive success too. As Grant says, we're in the middle of an epidemic of average. The conventional wisdom is to seek balance and take it easy. But that has really just given us an excuse to be unexceptional. If you want real success, you have to know how to harness your obsession to rocket to the top. This book will give you the inspiration and tools to break out of your cocoon of mediocrity and achieve your craziest dreams. Grant will teach you how to: · Set crazy goals—and reach them, every single day. · Feed the beast: when you value money and spend it on the right things, you get more of it. · Shut down the doubters—and use your haters as fuel. Whether you're a sales person, small business owner, or 9-to-5 working stiff, your path to happiness runs though your obsessions. It's a simple choice: be obsessed or be average.

Book With Every Mistake

Download or read book With Every Mistake written by Gwynne Dyer and published by Vintage Canada. This book was released on 2010-07-16 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essential collection contains the best of Gwynne Dyer’s writing on the post–September 11 world. Since 1973, writer, historian and filmmaker Gwynne Dyer has written a widely syndicated newspaper column on international affairs, regularly published in 45 countries. With Every Mistake is not only a collection of the very best of Dyer’s recent work, but an examination of how, time and again, the media skews fact and opinion, wielding formidable influence on how we all shape our own thoughts. And why is so much of the information wrong? Is it herd instinct, official manipulation, robber-baron owners with ideological obsessions — or just the conflict between the inherently bitty, short-term nature of news reporting and analysis and the longer perspectives needed to understand what is actually going on? How much misinformation stems from simple ignorance and laziness? With Every Mistake combines an examination of how powerful owners mould the agendas of the press with a self-critique of Dyer’s own columns from the three and a half years between 9/11 and the January 2005 election in Iraq. How hard is it to get things right, and why do so many people in the media get things wrong?

Book Creating Romantic Obsession

Download or read book Creating Romantic Obsession written by Kathleen Béres Rogers and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-29 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us have, at one time, been obsessed with something, but how did obsession become a mental illness? This book examines literary, medical, and philosophical texts to argue that what we call obsession became a disease in the Romantic era and reflects the era’s anxieties. Using a number of literary texts, some well-known (like Mary Shelley’s 1818 Frankenstein and Edgar Allan Poe’s 1843 “The Tell Tale Heart”) and some not (like Charlotte Dacre’s 1811 The Passions and Charles Brockden Brown’s 1787 Edgar Huntly), the book looks at “vigilia”, an overly intense curiosity, “intellectual monomania”, an obsession with study, “nymphomania” and “erotomania”, gendered forms of desire, “revolutiana”, an obsession with sublime violence and military service, and “ideality,” an obsession with an idea. The coda argues that traces of these Romantic constructs can be seen in popular accounts of obsession today.
