Book The Turnouts Tribute to a distant star

Download or read book The Turnouts Tribute to a distant star written by Upendra and published by One Point Six Technology Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2016-09-26 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A ‘Child’, having sighted a distant bright star through the doorway of a coach of the train he is travelling in, recapitulates priceless memories of the bond he shared with this Star. The story, woven around emotional highpoints in the life of the ‘Child’, is centered on precious moments with this Star, with its own share of satire and inflexibility. The emotional transitions the ‘Child’ experiences during a train journey, switches tracks almost at the same pace as the train (if not faster!). And, this journey unfolds itself on a larger-than-life canvas, ‘The Turnouts’…… …..The train, piercing through dense fog and clipping at breathtaking speed with a rhythmic rattle at turnouts, seemed to be in a greater hurry to end its journey. On opening the huge metallic door of the coach that I was in, a gust of chilled air gushed into the coach engulfing me. It was a bright starlit night. A distant star, pinned to a conspicuous corner of the vast bright canvas of the night sky, caught my attention. The star, with a smooth sparkle and simmering warmth, seemed unusually bright. The star's brightness piercing through the dense fog and its warmth overpowering the chillness around was trying to reach out to me with a message. The Star was probably trying to convey something to me and it did, resulting in a volcano of emotions, with the speeding train shifting tracks on each turnout, oblivious of the turmoil within.

No one notices the jagged gap hidden by the darkness and rain. Yet when the bridge collapses vehicles careen into the churning waters of the bay below. In that one catastrophic moment, three powerful stories converge: a family ravaged by their child’s heartbreaking news, a marriage threatened by its own facade, and a college student burdened by self doubt. As each story unfolds, the characters move steadily closer to that fateful moment on the bridge. And while each character searches for grace, the storms in their lives loom as large as the storm that awaits them above the bay. When these characters intersect in Carolyn Williford’s gripping and moving volume of three novellas, they also collide with the transforming truth of Christ: Deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow me.

This book was released on 2017-12-29 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NASA's Science Mission Directorate (SMD) currently operates over five dozen missions, with approximately two dozen additional missions in development. These missions span the scientific fields associated with SMD's four divisionsâ€"Astrophysics, Earth Science, Heliophysics, and Planetary Sciences. Because a single mission can consist of multiple spacecraft, NASA-SMD is responsible for nearly 100 operational spacecraft. The most high profile of these are the large strategic missions, often referred to as "flagships." Large strategic missions are essential to maintaining the global leadership of the United States in space exploration and in science because only the United States has the budget, technology, and trained personnel in multiple scientific fields to conduct missions that attract a range of international partners. This report examines the role of large, strategic missions within a balanced program across NASA-SMD space and Earth sciences programs. It considers the role and scientific productivity of such missions in advancing science, technology and the long-term health of the field, and provides guidance that NASA can use to help set the priority of larger missions within a properly balanced program containing a range of mission classes.

Book Humans in Space

Download or read book Humans in Space written by Nick Kanas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-09 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Awarded the 2016 International Academy of Astronautics Life Science Book Award! Using anecdotal reports from astronauts and cosmonauts, and the results from studies conducted in space analog environments on Earth and in the actual space environment, this book broadly reviews the various psychosocial issues that affect space travelers. Unlike other books that are more technical in format, this text is targeted for the general public. With the advent of space tourism and the increasing involvement of private enterprise in space, there is now a need to explore the impact of space missions on the human psyche and on the interpersonal relationships of the crewmembers. Separate chapters of the book deal with psychosocial stressors in space and in space analog environments; psychological, psychiatric, interpersonal, and cultural issues pertaining to space missions; positive growth-enhancing aspects of space travel; the crew-ground interaction; space tourism; countermeasures for dealing with space; and unique aspects of a trip to Mars, the outer solar system, and interstellar travel.
