Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The River's Children" is an incredible work by American author, Ruth McEnery Stuart, representing the conduct of life of African Americans residing near the Mississippi River and the poverty they lived in. Excerpt from "The River's Children" "The Mississippi was flaunting itself in the face of opposition along its southern banks. It had carried much before it in its downward path ere it reached New Orleans. A plantation here, a low-lying settlement there, a cotton-field in bloom under its brim, had challenged its waters and been taken in, and there was desolation in its wake."

Book Gendered Identity and the Lost Female

Download or read book Gendered Identity and the Lost Female written by Shrabani Basu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-31 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an exploration of the postcolonial hybrid experience in anglophone Caribbean plays and performance from a feminist perspective. In a hitherto unattempted consideration of Caribbean theatre and performance, this study of gendered identities chronicles the postcolonial hybrid experience – and how it varies in the context of questions of sex, performance and social designation. In the process, it examines the diverse performances of the anglophone Caribbean. The work includes works by Caribbean anglophone playwrights like Derek Walcott, Mustapha Matura, Michael Gikes, Dennis Scott, Trevor Rhone, Earl Lovelace and Errol John with more recent works of Pat Cumper, Rawle Gibbons and Tony Hall. The study would also engage with Carnival, calypso and chutney music, while commenting on its evolving influences over the hybrid imagination. Each section covers the dominant socio-political thematics associated with the tradition and its effect on it, followed by an analysis of contemporaneously significant literary and cultural works – plays, carnival narrative and calypso and chutney lyrics as well as the experiences of performers. From Lovelace’s fictional Jestina to the real-life Drupatee, the book critically explores the marginalization of female performances while forming a hybrid identity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the contentious delay of the first clash in 1901 to the latest battle in 2023, The Egg Bowl: Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss, Third Edition updates the two previous editions to give the most accurate, in-depth overview of the Ole Miss–Mississippi State rivalry. For each game the narrative includes every scoring drive, every player who crossed the goal line, and every final score. One hundred ninety photographs illustrate the intensity of action on the field and capture the players and exploits faithful fans will always remember. The passion of the rivalry between these two schools cannot be overstated. Student leaders created the treasured Golden Egg, the trophy of the yearly contest, to quell frequent fisticuffs in the stands. While intended to cool the fervor, the Egg has been controversially remodeled, refurbished, and even kidnapped. On and off the field, the rivalry continually simmers. This new third edition features full accounts of the games from 2010 to 2023, including new photos and statistics. For the fan who demands to know every stat, The Egg Bowl is the ultimate reference. Which player has scored the most touchdowns? Who rushed for the longest run or threw the longest touchdown pass? How many kickoffs have been returned for touchdowns? Why is November 30 of consequence? Which two men have coached at both schools? And surprisingly, which three players have lettered at Mississippi State and Ole Miss? This is the ideal reference for football fanatics and the perfect gift for both State and Ole Miss fans.
