L'objectif général est l'étude du prétraitement d'eau de mer avant dessalement par osmose inverse afin de réduire le potentiel de colmatage de l'eau vis-à-vis des membranes d'osmose. La démarche adoptée dans cette étude consiste à comparer différents procédés hybrides à membrane : la coagulation couplée à l'ultrafiltration (UF) d'une part et l'adsorption couplée à l'ultrafiltration d'autre part dans différentes conditions opératoires, et pour différents coagulants et adsorbants. Pour cela, des essais de laboratoire et à l'échelle pilote ont été conduits avec une eau de mer réelle de la Méditerranée. Quel que soit le procédé de prétraitement concerné (UF seule ou procédé hybride/UF), l'effet de la qualité du perméat obtenu sur les performances d'une membrane d'osmose ne permet pas de discriminer les procédés. Des taux de rétention en sels élevés, une faible concentration des matières organiques dans le perméat d'osmose inverse et un colmatage progressif dû au dépôt des sels et des matières organiques sont observés pour des expériences en laboratoire à l'échelle de quelques heures. La mise en oeuvre de procédés hybrides adsorption par charbon actif en poudre/UF par rapport au procédé d'UF seule a conduit à des résultats particulièrement intéressants : un faible SDI3, un taux de rétention en matières organiques élevé (70 %) et un colmatage très réduit de la membrane d'UF. De plus, l'approfondissement de l'étude de ce couplage, mis en oeuvre en cellule tangentielle, a montré qu'une augmentation de la vitesse de circulation permet encore une réduction du colmatage. Concernant les procédés hybrides de coagulation/UF, nos résultats montrent qu'ils permettent une diminution du SDI3 et une réduction importante du colmatage. Cependant, ils présentent une faible amélioration du taux de rétention (23 %) par rapport à l'UF seule.
