Book excerpt: Reading Ericka's Story was one of the hardest things I have ever done. There were times when I had to stop reading, because I could not stop crying. I don't know if it was my own pain or the pain I felt for you, Dominic and Racquel. Reading the book helped me understand why it was so difficult for you to write. The purpose of the book is compelling. In my view, it admonishes parents who have children with life threatening diseases to bond with family and others in their social networks and especially God to help them through all of the uncertainty and pain that they will experience. The book does a wonderful job of capturing the feelings of all of the people in your lives and the roles they played in this drama. It is a premier for all parents with children diagnosed with terminal diseases. Frank Lomax III Ericka's Grandpa Minister Kelley Denise Gulley, MBA is a member of World Conquerors Church in Oakland, California, where she leads the Prayer Warriors Ministry and serves on the Vision in Action Team which works to implement Pastoral initiatives. She is a dynamic facilitator, speaker and teacher who counts it a privilege to have worked in and ministered to people living in low income communities of color across the country and in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Kelley's purpose in life is to bless others. She believes that she has been given gifts, abilities and experiences so that she can be used by God as a transfer point for these gifts to be deposited in the people who cross her path. Kelley is married to her high school sweetheart, Dominic. They have two children Racquel and Dominic, Jr. who you will learn more about in Ericka's Story.

I felt as if Polly the Parrot was taking flight. I could stay a victim of circumstances or I could change the course of my flight path." The book is a life history starting with her great grand parent's oil exploration in Illinois. Polly continues to tell the story of how with only a sixth grade education her great grandfather became a member of the board of directors of a savings and loan bank. He also owned a coal mine. Polly tells how her grandparents raised eight children and the tragedies they endured. Her grandfather was a part time minister who delivered the St Louis Globe Newspaper to the local small town farmers during the week. Polly's family had many difficulties due to her father's illness which eventually lead to him becoming a drug addict. The family consisted of two children. Polly's tells what a very important roll her grandparents, aunts, and uncles played in her daily life. They were always there for her due to her father's illness when she was very small. The author shares with her readers the secrets of why she did and felt so many things that were based on her past experiences. It all comes out after her visit with a hypnotist. The realities of her past are revealed.

You cant always see it, but God is adding to you. You are growing in your faith. God is molding you and preparing you for your destiny. Learning to love the single life is one of the best decisions that Ive made in my life. Ive been single since 2013 and Ive never been happier. Sure, I dont have a man around to open pickle jars, squish spiders, or lift heavy things, but I also know that one day God will bless me with my soul mate. Your singledom will not last a lifetime. The worst thing you can do is to panic and think you have to find someone immediately or your life is over. This air of desperation will zap the life out of a relationship with yourself or with anyone new for that matter. It makes you blind to the obvious red flags and puts you in all kinds of compromising situations. I implore you to embrace this special opportunity to get to know yourself and be happy. If you are uncomfortable spending time alone with yourself, what makes you think anyone else will feel comfortable spending time with you? This can be quite a challenge to someone that has continuously filled up their life with someone else only to discover that they really dont know or like themselves at all. In this book, you will discover that there are three characteristics of an uncommon single. They are: 1. The uncommon single overcomes disappointments. 2. The uncommon single prepares for the future. 3. The uncommon single lives by faith.

Book Growing Up Getty

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An enthralling and comprehensive look into the contemporary state of one of the wealthiest—and most misunderstood—family dynasties in the world, perfect for fans of Succession and House of Gucci. The Gettys are one of the wealthiest—and most misunderstood—family dynasties. Oil magnate J. Paul Getty, once the richest man in the world, is the patriarch of an extraordinary cast of sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. While some have been brought low by mental illness, drug addiction, and one of the most sensational kidnapping cases of the 20th century, many of Getty’s heirs have achieved great success. In addition to Mark Getty, a cofounder of Getty Images, and Anne G. Earhart, an award-winning environmentalist, others have made significant marks in a variety of fields, from music and viniculture to politics and LGBTQ rights. Now, across four continents, a new generation of lively, unique, and even outrageous Gettys is emerging—and not coasting on the dynasty’s still-immense wealth. August Getty designs extravagant gowns worn by Katy Perry, Cher, and other stars; his sibling, Nats—a fellow LGBTQ rights activist who announced his gender transition following his wedding to transgender icon Gigi Gorgeous—produces a line of exclusive streetwear. Their fascinating cousins include Balthazar, a multi-hyphenate actor-director-DJ-designer; and Isabel, a singer-songwriter and MBA candidate. A far-flung yet surprisingly close-knit group, the ascendant Gettys are bringing this iconic family onto the global stage in the 21st century. Through extensive research, including access to J. Paul Getty’s diaries and love letters, and fresh interviews with family members and friends, Growing Up Getty offers an enthralling and revealing look into the benefits and burdens of being part of today’s world of the ultra-wealthy.

Around the world, humans are being trafficked, kidnapped, sold, and enslaved for the specific purpose of sacrifice. Mass-scale migration has seen these gruesome techniques exported from the land of the Aztecs and finding their way to the United States, Britain, and many other locations worldwide. Voodoo priests in London have been linked to ritual murders, and not long ago a Palo Mayombe priestess’s New York City apartment yielded its grisly secrets. One New Jersey investigator says that sacrificial rites are not only going on today, but can be traced back ninety years in the States alone. Jimmy Lee Shreeve takes us on a nightmare journey, following the initial investigations of Scotland Yard into the murder of a five-year-old boy whose torso was found floating in the Thames in 2001, and traveling to Africa to unveil a grim trade of exporting humans for sacrifice. He uncovers the dark side of voodoo and muti magic, linked with a score of sacrifices and murders, and in Mexico, finds a devotee of Palo Mayombe responsible for torturing his victims and boiling them in a cauldron. Along the way, Shreeve brings his own brand of offbeat detective skills to the fore, providing startling conclusions to some of the world’s most horrific murders. Brutal and disturbing, Human Sacrifice takes us into the dark world of twenty-first-century ritual murder.

Book City on a Hilltop

  • Author : Sara Yael Hirschhorn
  • Publisher : Harvard University Press

Download or read book City on a Hilltop written by Sara Yael Hirschhorn and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2017-05-22 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1967, more than 60,000 Jewish-Americans have settled in the territories captured by the State of Israel during the Six Day War. Comprising 15 percent of the settler population today, these immigrants have established major communities, transformed domestic politics and international relations, and committed shocking acts of terrorism. They demand attention in both Israel and the United States, but little is known about who they are and why they chose to leave America to live at the center of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In this deeply researched, engaging work, Sara Yael Hirschhorn unsettles stereotypes, showing that the 1960s generation who moved to the occupied territories were not messianic zealots or right-wing extremists but idealists engaged in liberal causes. They did not abandon their progressive heritage when they crossed the Green Line. Rather, they saw a historic opportunity to create new communities to serve as a beacon—a “city on a hilltop”—to Jews across the globe. This pioneering vision was realized in their ventures at Yamit in the Sinai and Efrat and Tekoa in the West Bank. Later, the movement mobilized the rhetoric of civil rights to rebrand itself, especially in the wake of the 1994 Hebron massacre perpetrated by Baruch Goldstein, one of their own. On the fiftieth anniversary of the 1967 war, Hirschhorn illuminates the changing face of the settlements and the clash between liberal values and political realities at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
