  • Author : Fritz Henn
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media

Download or read book Contemporary Psychiatry written by Fritz Henn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 2231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The German version of this work has a long tradition, and this fourth edition is the first to see an English version. Its main feature is the international approach regarding both authors and topics. The four internationally renowned editors were able to acquire the leading specialists for each field as contributors to the book. No less than 120 authors, half of them from non-German speaking countries, ensure an extremely high standard and that cross-cultural aspects are considered. Another major feature is that the book presents the evidence such that it may be examined from at least four different entry points -- via basic disciplines of psychiatric knowledge about groups defined by demographic criteria. Detailed linkages to other chapters allow the inclusion of neighbouring disciplines, such as the neurosciences and molecular biology. Contemporary Psychiatry is also unique in including chapters on psychiatric disorders caused by catastrophes, disasters etc. -- aspects totally neglected by normal textbooks. While this book gives an overall view of the state of the art of psychiatric knowledge, it even goes so far as to suggest future perspectives.

Book The Medical School s Mission and the Population s Health

Download or read book The Medical School s Mission and the Population s Health written by Kerr L. White and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medical schools exist as part of a complex educational and health care sys tem with affiliations to universities, teaching hospitals, outpatient clinics, students, and communities. Those of us who serve as trustees and volunteers on boards and commit tees of medical schools carry obvious responsibilities for the performance of the institution with regard to those affiliations, including those that relate to the community. By what criteria, and by what standards, do we as trustees assess that performance? For trustees of medical schools, I suggest that the most im portant criteria are those concerned with the purpose for which the school was originally established and those that relate to the community that sup ports it and is served by it. For a medical school performance criteria should be defined in a statement of purpose: the "mission" of the school. This mission statement should pro vide trustees with direction on such vital matters as the following: What does the medical school seek to accomplish? Whom does it serve? Where is it going? What is the relationship to the geographic region or other community that it may seek to serve? Such questions are stated more easily than they are answered, but they should be asked. For trustees who are responsible for the education of stu dents, the management of faculty, and the stewardship of funds they are a matter of serious concern.

Book Continuing Education for Change

Download or read book Continuing Education for Change written by Charles E. Engel and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was in 1987 that the Regional Office carried out 10 case studies in seve- ral European countries, to investigate new approaches to the continuing education of health personnel and practices in that field. Ways and means were identified to develop systems and programmes of continuing educations, that would take into account changing national needs and health for all policies, and lay emphasis on primary health care. These case studies and a further 19 contry reports form an important part of this publication. They show that if continuing education is to be used as an instrument for change, the attitudes and methods prevalent in the field today must be changed.

Book Knowledge in Policy

Download or read book Knowledge in Policy written by Freeman, Richard and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2015-10-07 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge in Policy radically reconceives the place of knowledge in policy making in Europe, one that pays particular attention to the different forms that knowledge can take. Specifically, knowledge is embodied in people, inscribed in documents and instruments, and enacted in particular circumstances. In this book, Richard Freeman and Steve Sturdy gather case studies of health and education policies in contexts that demonstrate the essential interdependence of these different forms of knowledge. In doing so, they illustrate the ways in which knowledge is mobilized and resisted, drawing attention to key problems in the processing and transformation of knowledge in policy work.
