Book Vision Based Autonomous Robot Navigation

Download or read book Vision Based Autonomous Robot Navigation written by Amitava Chatterjee and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-10-13 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is devoted to the theory and development of autonomous navigation of mobile robots using computer vision based sensing mechanism. The conventional robot navigation systems, utilizing traditional sensors like ultrasonic, IR, GPS, laser sensors etc., suffer several drawbacks related to either the physical limitations of the sensor or incur high cost. Vision sensing has emerged as a popular alternative where cameras can be used to reduce the overall cost, maintaining high degree of intelligence, flexibility and robustness. This book includes a detailed description of several new approaches for real life vision based autonomous navigation algorithms and SLAM. It presents the concept of how subgoal based goal-driven navigation can be carried out using vision sensing. The development concept of vision based robots for path/line tracking using fuzzy logic is presented, as well as how a low-cost robot can be indigenously developed in the laboratory with microcontroller based sensor systems. The book describes successful implementation of integration of low-cost, external peripherals, with off-the-shelf procured robots. An important highlight of the book is that it presents a detailed, step-by-step sample demonstration of how vision-based navigation modules can be actually implemented in real life, under 32-bit Windows environment. The book also discusses the concept of implementing vision based SLAM employing a two camera based system.

Book Autonomous Navigation of Indoor Mobile Robot Using Global Ultrasonic System

Download or read book Autonomous Navigation of Indoor Mobile Robot Using Global Ultrasonic System written by Soo-Yeong Yi and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this chapter, the global ultrasonic system with an EKF algorithm is presented for the selflocalization of an indoor mobile robot. Also, the performance of the autonomous navigation based on the self-localization system is thus verified through various experiments. The global ultrasonic system consists of four or more ultrasonic generators fixed at known positions in the workspace, two receivers mounted on the mobile robot, and RF modules added to the ultrasonic sensors. By controlling the ultrasonic signal generation through the RF channel, the robot can synchronize and measure the distance between the ultrasonic generators and receivers, thereby estimating its own position and heading angle. It is shown.

Book A Person Tracking Mobile Robot Using an Ultrasonic Positioning System

Download or read book A Person Tracking Mobile Robot Using an Ultrasonic Positioning System written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is desirable in many applications that a mobile robot is able to track and follow a person. There have been various efforts in literature to create person-tracking robots. However, current person-tracking robots are not capable of operating in unstructured environments. The problem of creating a person-tracking mobile robot has been studied by many researchers in literature. There are two main issues associated with this problem. The first issue is to equip a robot with proper sensory devices so that it is able to identify and locate the target person in a crowd in real time. Various approaches have been investigated, including vision, infrared sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and other approaches. The second issue is to control and navigate the robot so that it follows the target person within a certain distance. This seems to be simple, but in reality it is a fairly difficult task. For example, if the target person is in a busy corridor with many people standing and walking, the robot has to constantly avoid other people while following the target. There is still no reported evidence that a person-tracking robot has been implemented that is able to track a person in arbitrary environmental conditions. In this research, by using an innovative RF/ultrasonic sensor system, an intelligent person-tracking mobile robot is to be implemented that is able to follow the target person in unstructured, practical environments. The main focus of the thesis is development and implementation of control algorithms.

Book Machine Intelligence

Download or read book Machine Intelligence written by A. Gomersall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1981 Robotics Bibliography was published containing over 1,800 references on industrial robot research and development, culled from the scientific literature over the previous 12 years. It was felt that sensors for use with industrial robots merited a section and accordingly just over 200 papers were included. It is a sign of the increased research into sensors in production engineering that this bibliography on both the contact and non-contact forms has appeared less than three years after that first comprehensive collection of references appeared. In a reviell''; in 1975 Professor Warnecke of IPA, Stuttgart drew attention to the lack of sensors for touch and vision. Since then research workers in various companies, universities and national laboratories in the USA, the UK, Italy, Germany and Japan have concentrated on improving sensor capabilities, particularly utilising vision, artificial intelligence and pattern recognition principles. As a result many research projects are on the brink of commercial exploitation and development. This biblio graphy brings together the documentation on that research and development, highlighting the advances made in vision systems, but not neglecting the development of tactile sensors of various types. No bibliography can ever be comprehensive, but significant contributions from research workers and production engineers from the major industrialised countries over the last 12 years have been included.

Book Control for Navigation of a Mobile Robot Using Monocular Data

Download or read book Control for Navigation of a Mobile Robot Using Monocular Data written by Lluís Pacheco and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces a new strategy for mobile robot navigation. The complete navigation strategy is based on local landmark detection. However, the work developed just shows the local navigation results. In this context, local artificial potential fields are used as a way to attract the mobile robot towards a local goal that can act as a passage point and a featured landmark. In order to acomplish with the desired objective, simple perception system and reactive control behaviours were implemented and tested. Concretely, a single on-robot camera system was used to infer the closer robot environment where free aproaching path was computed. Moreover, the proposed control strategy is based on on-line model predictive control techniques where only short prediction horizons are considered for dealing with reactive behaviours and dynamic environments.

An introductory overview provides a framework for thinking about AI for robotics, distinguishing between the fundamentally different design paradigms of automation and autonomy. The book then discusses the reactive functionality of sensing and acting in AI robotics; introduces the deliberative functions most often associated with intelligence and the capability of autonomous initiative; surveys multi-robot systems and (in a new chapter) human-robot interaction; and offers a “metaview” of how to design and evaluate autonomous systems and the ethical considerations in doing so. New material covers locomotion, simultaneous localization and mapping, human-robot interaction, machine learning, and ethics. Each chapter includes exercises, and many chapters provide case studies. Endnotes point to additional reading, highlight advanced topics, and offer robot trivia.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this jOint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 40 (thesis year 1995) a total of 10,746 thesis titles from 19 Canadian and 144 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 40 reports theses submitted in 1995, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Autonomous Navigation with Mobile Robot Using Ultrasonic Rangefinders

Download or read book Autonomous Navigation with Mobile Robot Using Ultrasonic Rangefinders written by Joseph F. Campion and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, I designed and implemented an autonomous navigation system for a four-wheeled mobile robot with ultrasonic sonar sensors and a National Instruments myRIO real-time controller. LabVIEW code was developed to control the motors with PWM signals based on sensor feedback. A low-pass filter was used to improve the signal to noise ratio since the signals from the ultrasonic sonar sensors were quite noisy. Finally, I developed two basic algorithms to maneuver the mobile robot: the first algorithm uses proportional control to maintain a specific distance from a target in front of the mobile robot; the second also uses proportional control to keep the robot at a specified distance away from a wall to its side as it travels forward.
