Book Mines Accounting and Management

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mines Accounting and Management The primary object of this work is to provide mining students attending the course provided by the The Imperial College of Science and Technology with a short handbook, which will explain to them the manner in which the various transactions involved in carrying on a mining undertaking should be recorded in the accounts, or records, kept upon the spot; and how the information thus recorded is ultimately transmitted to the headquarters of the company to which the mine belongs. For this purpose, it has not been considered necessary to explain any very elaborate and complete system of double-entry account-keeping, such as would naturally be employed in connection with mining undertakings operating upon a large scale, and therefore with a numerous and well-organised staff. Wherever there is in existence a complete system of account-keeping, the Mines Manager cannot do better than to study its working, and continue it upon the lines already laid down. Where the Mines Manager - particularly the young Mines Manager - is more likely to want guidance, is when he is operating a comparatively small concern, the accounts of which have not already been formulated by an expert. In such cases he may even find himself having to combine the functions of Mines Accountant with those of Mines Manager; certainly he is likely to find himself in the position that, in order to secure a proper control of events, he must needs familiarise himself with the records sent home to headquarters, as well as with the actual operations embarked upon on the spot. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from American Mine Accounting: Methods and Forms Employed by Leading Mining Companies While engaged as accountant with various copper-mining companies in the Lake Superior District, covering a period of twelve years, I was impressed with the fact that the subject Of mine accounting was not being given the attention in technical literature that it might well receive, there being to my knowledge only three books published on the subject in the English language, one in this country, one in England and one in Scotland. The result was that I set about the compilation Of the material in this volume, which are the practical working systems Of companies representa tive in their particular fields Of mining, believing that this treatment of the subject would be more generally appreciated than a theoretical discussion. Book Mine Bookkeeping

Download or read book Mine Bookkeeping written by Robert McGarraugh and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-27 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mine Bookkeeping: A Comprehensive System of Records and Accounts for Mining Operations of Moderate Dimensions To make an intelligent analysis of the work at hand, the cost of performing each operation must be determined in terms of the unit involved; this unit may be ton of ore milled, ton of ore stoped, foot of drift or crosscut, etc. It is obvious that to be of economic value, a saving in the cost per ton of ore produced must not be accompanied by a corresponding drop in the grade of that ore; on the other hand, an increase in the cost of production may be more than offset by the gain in recovery which has been effected. The grade of ore which can be mined and treated at a profit should be definitely known. It is sometimes the case that this factor has not received suffi cient consideration, or that it has not been kept before those who are responsible for the actual mining operations. Where appreciable variations in mining conditions occur in different parts of the mine, the grade of ore which can be taken out at a profit from each working place should be determined. Ore which assays above this grade can be profitably mined and treated; anything of lower grade can only be handled at a loss and should be left. In case that a shortage of ore which can be mined and treated at an actual profit occurs, the grade at which ore can be handled in preference to running below capacity must be determined. Muck from development faces must be disposed of, and it is then the question whether rock which is already broken and in the car should go to the treat ment plant or over the dump. Both contribute largely to the success of any mining enterprise, and when combined they frequently turn failure into success. It is inconceivable that a manager can trace and promptly stop financial leaks unless he knows the detailed cost of the various operations that enter into the aggregate expenditure. Book Construction Accounting and Financial Management Classic Reprint

Download or read book Construction Accounting and Financial Management Classic Reprint written by William E. Coombs and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Construction Accounting and Financial Management Although accounting principles do not change, I think it is reasonable to say that their application to any particular industry, and to any specific business in that industry, usually requires careful analysis and sound judgment. This statement is certainly true of the construction industry. This book cannot take the place of detailed information nor of the experience with individual problems of any particular construction company. It can, how ever, survey the problems peculiar to the construction industry and indicate how to apply standard accounting techniques to ar rive at sound solutions. With operating conditions so varied and the individual con tractor's circumstances likely to be so complex, it is often necessary to go back and review basic accounting and business principles in relation to the specific conditions in a given company before management can use accounting as a true operational tool. It is for this reason that this book is devoted more to the why than to the how of construction accounting. Certainly, among the techniques described, the experienced accountant will find few, if any, that are basically unfamiliar to him, but he may see them applied in ways that may be somewhat unexpected.
