Book Mineral Resource Governance and Human Development in Ghana

Download or read book Mineral Resource Governance and Human Development in Ghana written by Felix Danso and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates how mineral resources can be governed to promote people-centred development in Ghana, focusing on the three main human development variables: living standards, education and health. Ghana is endowed with abundant mineral resources. The mineral sector accounts for about 14% of total tax revenue, driven mostly by an increase in export earnings from the gold sector and the commencement of crude oil exports. However, the country has not yet been able to use its natural resources to promote human development, and the majority of the population still lives on less than $2 a day. This book argues for a paradigm shift in the discussion of mineral resources, one that looks to govern natural resources in such a way as to improve standards of living, health, education, income levels, empowerment, quality of work and threats from violence. The human-centred mineral resource governance approach developed by this book will not only be useful to Ghana, but can also be applied to other mineral-rich countries in sub-Saharan Africa. This book will be important to upper-level students and researchers of natural resource management, international development and African studies, as well as to NGOs, practitioners and policymakers who recognise the importance of linking natural resources income to human development.

Book Closed Loop Management in Mineral Resource Extraction

Download or read book Closed Loop Management in Mineral Resource Extraction written by Jörg Benndorf and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-13 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes an innovative closed-loop concept that allows the feedback of online data from operational monitoring to create mining intelligence. The application of this concept promises significant improvements in economic and environmental key performance indicators for any mining operation. Combining theory with industrial case studies, the book guides readers through this process by providing theoretical background, addressing practical issues related to operational implementation, and illustrating the impact on selected examples. This new concept is presented using the example of a bulk and gold mining application, but is applicable at any mine where grade control is important. The book is of interest to industrial professionals involved in operational monitoring, mining intelligence, and mine planning optimization, as well as to researchers and academics in the field of applied geostatistics.

Book Mineral Resource Management Principles and Best Practices

Download or read book Mineral Resource Management Principles and Best Practices written by Wynand Bender and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the acquisition by AngloGold Ashanti Ltd of open pit mines in East and West Africa with possible addition of Greenfield and Brownfield operations, was the emphasis of this research document to improve the current open pit mines in this region. Identifying Mineral Resource Management as a way to improve and manage operating practices, could additional value and the accompanied risks been identified. It was also realised that the current traditional, predominantly financial, indicators are increasingly becoming inadequate, this looking at alternative operating principles. Subsequent to this has proposals been made to acquire the necessary production and cost change by integrating structure, strategy, systems, style, skills, staff and the defined goals as proposed in this document. Using a "process-based" approach integrating (best) operating practices, can the concepts such as: living out the company's strategic values; a learning organisation; better informed decision-making; people management; selfdirected teams; continuous improvement; asset and capital management; integrated information systems; and an improved internal and external customer relationship be obtained.

  • ISBN : 1402057172
  • Pages : 337 pages

Download or read book Mineral Resource Estimation written by Mario E. Rossi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-21 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mineral resource estimation has changed considerably in the past 25 years: geostatistical techniques have become commonplace and continue to evolve; computational horsepower has revolutionized all facets of numerical modeling; mining and processing operations are often larger; and uncertainty quantification is becoming standard practice. Recent books focus on historical methods or details of geostatistical theory. So there is a growing need to collect and synthesize the practice of modern mineral resource estimation into a book for undergraduate students, beginning graduate students, and young geologists and engineers. It is especially fruitful that this book is written by authors with years of relevant experience performing mineral resource estimation and with years of relevant teaching experience. This comprehensive textbook and reference fills this need.
