Book Military Communications

Download or read book Military Communications written by John D. Bergen and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Military Communications: A Test for Technology, John D. Bergen develops the thesis that burgeoning technology in communications faced a severe test in Vietnam. He analyzes the advantages and drawbacks of new communications systems and the effects these systems had on decision making and on command. In doing so, he describes the difficulties that communications systems had in keeping pace with the information explosion and shows that command and control do not necessarily improve with enhanced communications. The book illustrates that the communications missions of getting the message through was not only critical to the success of combat operations, but also as challenging as combat itself. Bergens clear understanding and description of these issues make this a valuable work for those responsible for the future success of command, control, communications, and intelligence.

Book excerpt: "The Tatmadaw currently uses eight different radio systems for communications within and between the successive echelons from the Ministry of Defence (formerly called the War Office) in Rangoon to the front-line units - the 12 Regional Commands, the Military Operation Commands (MOCs), the Tactical Operation Commands (TOCs), the Light Infantry Divisions (LIDs), the Battalions, Companies and Columns. This paper describes these various radio systems and their capabilities."--Abstract from SDSC web site.

Book Aeronautical Radio Communication Systems and Networks

Download or read book Aeronautical Radio Communication Systems and Networks written by Dale Stacey and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Typically, there are over twenty radio systems on board the average commercial jet aircraft dealing with communication, navigation and surveillance functions. Very high frequency (VHF) air-to-ground communication is usually the main method of information and control exchange between pilot and air traffic control. Satellite and high frequency radio links are used to complement this system for long range or oceanic information exchanges. Other communications systems are required between the airline operation centre and the pilot and sometimes between the passengers and the ground. A comprehensive guide to current systems, networks and topologies, this book covers application requirements for communication and related radio-navigation and surveillance functions in aeronautical systems. There is also an insight into future possibilities as technologies progress and airspace operation and control scenarios change. Ideal for civil aviation authorities, airspace management providers and regulatory organizations, Aeronautical Radio Communication Systems and Networks will also appeal to aircraft and radio equipment manufacturers and university students studying aeronautical or electronic engineering. Key features: Provides a broad and concise look at the various communications systems on board a typical aircraft from a theoretical, system level and practical standpoint with worked examples and case studies throughout. Considers all types of aircraft from light aircraft to large commercial jets and specialised supersonic aircraft. Looks at existing airport radio communication infrastructure and proposals for new very high bandwidth radio applications within the airport environment. Provides a complete list of formulae for engineering design analysis and quick checks on system performance or interference analysis.

Book Tactical Communications for the Digitized Battlefield

Download or read book Tactical Communications for the Digitized Battlefield written by Michael J. Ryan and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2002 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional tactical communications systems consist of a number of separate subsystems with little interworking between them and with external sensors and weapons systems. Combat net radio (CNR) has provided the high-mobility communications required by combat troops, while trunk communications systems have provided high-capacity communications between headquarters at the expense of mobility. The focus of this book is on new, information-age technologies that promise to offer seamless integration of real-time data sharing, creating a single logical network architecture to facilitate the movement of data throughout the battlespace. Because the structure of this network is constrained by the fundamental trade-off between range, mobility and capacity that applies to all communications systems, this network is unlikely to be based on a single network technology. This book presents an architecture for this network, and shows how its subsystems can be integrated to form a single logical network.

Book Army MARS at 90

    Book Details:

  • Release : 2016
  • ISBN : 1329964322
  • Pages : 98 pages

Download or read book Army MARS at 90 written by William Sexton and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There's an obscure agency in the Defense Department with the unique distinction of costing the taxpayers nothing for its national security role. The members wear no uniforms, don't carry weapons and work from home. They are specially-licensed amateur radio operators who serve part-time in the Army and Air Force Military Auxiliary Radio Systems, known by the acronym MARS. They're the heroes of MARS at 90, a small (96-pages), illustrated non-fiction work. In the nine decades covered, the volunteer members pitched in to assist the military in hurricanes and other natural calamities, and most memorably during the wars in Korea, Vietnam and Iraq. Their new mission is keeping the country connected in case the internet and other communications are severed by hostile or natural action. It's the only survivable backup the U.S. has.

Book Military Radio Communications Equipment Trade offs

Download or read book Military Radio Communications Equipment Trade offs written by Delmer C. Ports and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes the development of empirical relationships of design-cost based on the characteristics of a comparatively large-number of existing and developmental military radio communications equipments. The use of such relationships in the construction of performance-cost trade-offs is illustrated. The work was carried out as part of a larger research effort designed to study all of the relationships required for communication system planning. Preliminary study indicated that for most types of existing and developmental military radio equipment, given power output only, a cost estimate may be obtained which is accurate within a factor of about three. If a second parameter is specified such as type of installation, frequency range, or type of modulation, an estimate accurate to within a factor of about 1.5 may be obtained.
