Book excerpt: Lisa Scottoline has thrilled millions with her emotionally-charged novels that feature strong women exploring the boundaries of family, justice, and love. In her New York Times bestseller, Don't Go, she breaks new ground and delivers the story of a soldier who discovers what it means to be a man, a father, and ultimately, a hero. When Dr. Mike Scanlon is called to serve as an army doctor in Afghanistan, he's acutely aware of the dangers he'll face and the hardships it will cause his wife Chloe and newborn baby. And deep inside, he doesn't think of himself as a warrior, but a healer. However, in an ironic turn of events, as Mike operates on a wounded soldier in a war-torn country, Chloe dies at home in the suburbs, in an apparent household accident. Devastated, he returns home to bury her, only to discover that the life he left behind has fallen apart. His medical practice is in jeopardy, and he is a complete stranger to the only family he has left - his precious baby girl. Worse, he learns a shocking secret that sends him into a downward spiral. Ultimately, Mike realizes that the most important battle of his life faces him on the home front and he'll have to put it all on the line to save what's dearest to him – his family. Gripping, thrilling, and profoundly emotional, Don't Go is Lisa Scottoline at her finest.

They all face almost insurmountable obstacles to better themselves because of the segregation, discrimination, subjugation, and humiliation imposed by the ruling white supremacy. The younger son, Sam, is confronted with the daily challenge of either accepting his secondary life as a black or rising above his environment and being accepted as a person regardless of the color of his skin. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Donkey's Journey chronicles the author's life and path to understanding his purpose according to God's will. Although the author had accomplished many things, such as being a Marine Corps veteran from operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and a deputy sheriff and special victims detective, he still felt worthless and was frustrated with the meaning of life. The author takes us on a journey with his bouts with worthlessness and struggles as he relates his life to that of a donkey. The author allows us to feel his pain when acknowledging his failures as a husband which led to the ultimate failure of his marriage. His undiagnosed mental health issues contributed to severe suicidal thoughts. This is of course until the day he turned his entire life over to God, and he asked God to give him a greater purpose for his life. We go on the journey with him as he faces spiritual battles along the way. His purpose in life begins to be identified as his spirit life grows stronger. The purpose of the book is to reach those that are battling some form of struggle in their life, to leave a feeling of worthlessness and find a life of purpose. The key to breaking the chains of bondage from all sorts of issues is to completely turn our lives over to Jesus Christ. He is not only the key to eternal life, he is the key to abundant life.
