Book Diversity in the City

Download or read book Diversity in the City written by Marco Martiniello and published by Universidad de Deusto. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It seems the world is becoming increasingly uniform culturally. To a certain degree, this observation is correct in the sense that a global mass culture is certainly being disseminated an sold all over the plane. But the world is at the same time increasingly diversified in terms of ethno-cultura identities. The tension between the trend toward cultural uniformity and the trend toward differentiation of identities is well captured by observing the evolution of social dynamics in cities. Most medium-sized and large European cities are today increasingly fragmented socially, economically and ethnically. Some of them are even becoming socially, ethnically an racially ghettoised. But at the same time, European cities remain places where intergroup encounters con develop and where cultural production takes place. The cities are the crossroads between the local and the global. The first aim of this book is to discuss the changes affecting the city and the role played by cultural diversity and ethno-national identities in those changes. The second aim is to examine some crucial issues and aspects of the current process of cultural diversification of cities and its impact on urban socio-economic, political and cultural activities.

Book Diaspora and Exile

Download or read book Diaspora and Exile written by Lucía Mora González and published by Univ de Castilla La Mancha. This book was released on 2001 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The different contributions of this body of work attemp to demonstrate that the concept of diaspora (exile) has acquired a renewed currency among scholars by examining that to be in exile, at least in some way, is to live a disjoint life. Thus, to live in exileor diaspora implies to take up the difficult task of kee-ping one`s dignity and one ́s story, despite the on slaught of a colonial power. The relationship with a past, often through stories of the mother/land or through remembrance and (re)creation, becomes a means of survival. Futhermore, the sense (or absence) of community, and the positioning in language generate an ever more complex and dialogic definition of Canadian and American nationalities and identities.

Book Popular Texts in English

Download or read book Popular Texts in English written by Antonio Ballesteros González and published by Univ de Castilla La Mancha. This book was released on 2001 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprises a collection of articles devoted to the academic study of popular texts in English. Authors analyse genres which had been habitually looked down on by canonical approaches to literature and art. They take into serious consideration forms like horror literature, the gothic, fantasy, de-tective fiction, science fiction, best-sellers, films and television series of different kinds... among some other representations of what conservative scholars had been considering as marginal. The referential richness of the perspectives reflected here demonstrates that popular texts can be enjoyable for readers and audiences, at the same time that they can be significant in order to reach a better understanding of our culture and ourselves at the beginning of a new millennium.

Download or read book La Est tica de la transgresi n written by Antonio Ballesteros González and published by Univ de Castilla La Mancha. This book was released on 2000 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Illegally Staying in the EU

Download or read book Illegally Staying in the EU written by Benedita Menezes Queiroz and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-02-22 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principally, this book comprises a conceptual analysis of the illegality of a third-country national's stay by examining the boundaries of the overarching concept of illegality at the EU level. Having found that the holistic conceptualisation of illegality, constructed through a combination of sources (both EU and national law) falls short of adequacy, the book moves on to consider situations that fall outside the traditional binary of legal and illegal under EU law. The cases of unlawfully staying EU citizens and of non-removable illegally staying third-country nationals are examples of groups of migrants who are categorised as atypical. By looking at these two examples the book reveals not only the fragmentation of legal statuses in EU migration law but also the more general ill-fitting and unsatisfactory categorisation of migrants. The potential conflation of illegality with criminality as a result of the way EU databases regulate the legal regime of illegality of a migrant's stay is the first trend identified by the book. Subsequently, the book considers the functions of accessing legality (both instrumental and corrective). In doing so it draws out another trend evident in the EU illegality regime: a two-tier regime which discriminates on the basis of wealth and the instrumentalisation of access to legality by Member States for mostly their own purposes. Finally, the book proposes a corrective rationale for the regulation of illegality through access to legality and provides a number of normative suggestions as a way of remedying current deficiencies that arise out of the present supranational framing of illegality.

Book Derechos humanos inmigrantes en situaci n irregular y Uni n Europea

Download or read book Derechos humanos inmigrantes en situaci n irregular y Uni n Europea written by Ángel G. Chueca Sancho and published by Lex Nova. This book was released on 2010 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. \n\n

Book Voluntary and Forced Migration in Latin America

Download or read book Voluntary and Forced Migration in Latin America written by Natalia Caicedo Camacho and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2022-09-15 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latin America provides a compelling case for the study of migration policies and laws, with several factors – including both internal and interregional migration and refugee flows, the region’s progressive approach to the management of human mobility, and several forced displacement crises of the contemporary era – offering unique insights. Despite the region’s heterogeneous migration flows and unique immigration and refugee laws, the academic literature has thus far lacked in-depth explorations of migration policy in Latin America. Voluntary and Forced Migration in Latin America presents a comparative analysis of the migration legislation of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. For each country, the collection provides a historical overview of the evolution of migration legislation, an analysis of the migration flows and types of migrant profiles, and an examination of the country’s current immigration, asylum, and nationality legislation. The primary regional and international mechanisms that facilitate a normative approach to voluntary and forced migration, as well as to migrant and refugee rights, are also thoroughly interrogated. Situating itself in the often progressive immigration policies of Latin America, Voluntary and Forced Migration in Latin America offers alternative solutions for other countries facing migration challenges in different contexts.

Book Wittgenstein und der Wiener Kreis

Download or read book Wittgenstein und der Wiener Kreis written by Jesús Padilla Gálvez and published by Univ de Castilla La Mancha. This book was released on 1998 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Latin Americans in London

Download or read book Latin Americans in London written by F. Daniel Morales Hernández and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-10-23 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the life stories of Latin American immigrants living in London. Through a critical analysis of their discourses in various contexts, this book provides insights into representations of migration and processes of exclusion among co-ethnics. Ideologies of language, neoliberalism and social class intersect with such constructs as gender, race and ethnicity as the participants categorise other Latin Americans and themselves in the social spaces that they have cohabitated. It is a timely work for those interested in the history of Latin America, its people in diaspora, social inequality and the interrelationship between language and identity in a context of mobility.
