Book The Foundations of Behavioral Economic Analysis

Download or read book The Foundations of Behavioral Economic Analysis written by Sanjit Dhami and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 2509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first definitive introduction to behavioral economics aimed at advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students. Authoritative, cutting edge, yet accessible, it guides the reader through theory and evidence, providing engaging and relevant applications throughout. It is divided into nine parts and 24 chapters: Part I is on behavioral economics of risk, uncertainty, and ambiguity. The evidence against expected utility theory is examined, and the behavioral response is outlined; the best empirically supported theory is prospect theory. Part II considers other-regarding preferences. The evidence from experimental games on human sociality is given, followed by models and applications of inequity aversion, intentions based reciprocity, conditional cooperation, human virtues, and social identity. Part III is on time discounting. It considers the evidence against the exponential discounted utility model and describes several behavioral models such as hyperbolic discounting, attribute based models and the reference time theory. Part IV describes the evidence on classical game theory and considers several models of behavioral game theory, including level-k and cognitive hierarchy models, quantal response equilibrium, and psychological game theory. Part V considers behavioral models of learning that include evolutionary game theory, classical models of learning, experience weighted attraction model, learning direction theory, and stochastic social dynamics. Part VI studies the role of emotions; among other topics it considers projection bias, temptation preferences, happiness economics, and interaction between emotions and cognition. Part VII considers bounded rationality. The three main topics considered are judgment heuristics and biases, mental accounting, and behavioral finance. Part VIII considers behavioral welfare economics; the main topics are soft paternalism, and choice-based measures of welfare. Finally, Part IX gives an abbreviated taster course in neuroeconomics.

Book Lectures In The Microeconomics Of Choice Foundations Consumers And Producers

Download or read book Lectures In The Microeconomics Of Choice Foundations Consumers And Producers written by William David Anthony Bryant and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-02-17 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People pursue their own interests, whatever those interests might be. Some people have interests that are narrow and selfish, while others have interests that are broad and altruistic. The idea that people are self-interested underpins all of economic analysis and raises two fundamental questions: 1. How do people choose the actions they think will further their own interests? 2. Can the potentially conflicting interests of different people be made to 'mesh' in some sort of socio-economic equilibrium? This book is devoted to a detailed study of the first question. Its Companion Volume (Economy-Wide Microeconomics: Equilibrium, Optimality, Applications and Tests) makes a detailed study of the second question.Following some foundational remarks, this book studies the Arrow-Debreu theory of consumer choice. That theory supposes people choose so as to maximize a complete, continuous, transitive, and reflexive binary preference relation over a non-empty and compact choice set. The book then studies numerous refinements, generalizations and extensions of each of these restrictions — up to and including recent work on Behavioral theories of choice and choice behaviour when preferences are intransitive/incomplete/discontinuous. Also considered is choice behaviour in environments that are not necessarily compact. A study is also made of intertemporal choice and choice under uncertainty. The study of Arrow-Debreu choice theory and its extensions are presented from the Primal, Dual, and Revealed Preference points of view.Consumers are not the only agents in the economy, as Producers are present as well. Beginning with a study of the Arrow-Debreu idea that producers choose from a convex production set so as to maximize profit, the book considers extensions and generalizations of this framework, particularly to non-convex environments. The study is presented from the Primal and Dual points of view. The final chapter in the book provides a link to its Companion Volume. The Chapter indicates how the theories of consumer and producer choice studied here help inform answers of the second question posed above.Resources are available to instructors who adopt this book. Book Microeconomic Foundations Theory Application and Policy

Download or read book Microeconomic Foundations Theory Application and Policy written by Anil Somani and published by JEC PUBLICATION. This book was released on with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the ever-evolving landscape of economic thought, the significance of microeconomics cannot be overstated. It is within this intricate framework of individual choices, market dynamics, and policy implications that the foundation of economic understanding is laid. "Microeconomic Foundations: Theory, Application, and Policy" is conceived with the ambition to bridge the realms of theoretical microeconomics and its practical applications, offering a comprehensive guide that navigates through the core principles, contemporary issues, and the multifaceted role of policy in shaping economic outcomes. This book is the culmination of years of teaching, research, and engagement with the practical aspects of microeconomics. It is designed to serve a broad audience, from undergraduate students grappling with the basics of the discipline to graduate scholars exploring advanced concepts, and professionals seeking to apply microeconomic principles to real-world scenarios. The genesis of this work lies in the recognition of the need for a text that not only elucidates the theoretical underpinnings of microeconomics but also demonstrates the application of these theories in addressing contemporary economic challenges.

Book Revival The Megacorp and Oligopoly Micro Foundations of Macro Dynamics 1981

Download or read book Revival The Megacorp and Oligopoly Micro Foundations of Macro Dynamics 1981 written by Alfred S. Eicher and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 1976. This book provides both an explanation of the inflation which has bedeviled economic policy in the West since the end of World War II and a micro-economic theory to purge Keynesian models of the Walrasian strain derived from Marshall's Principles. By focusing on what is taken to be the representative business firm of the twentieth century - the large corporation or megacorp - the microeconomic model presented in the book reverses the usual assumptions of economic analysis. Instead of assuming the existence of firms with no control over prices, the book examines how the megacorp uses its pricing power to finance its own internal rate of growth. The result is a determinant model of how prices are set under the sort of oligopolistic conditions which prevail in most modern industries throughout the world.
