Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Leadership and Human Resources - Generation Y, Generation Z, Royal University of Bhutan (Royal Institute of Management, Thimphu), course: Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration (PGDPA), language: English, abstract: The purpose of the study is to examine the role of MSMEs in solving unemployment problem and to find the unemployment trend. The unemployment problem is rising every year and especially youth unemployment is increasing at alarming rate. The study covers Thimphu area whereby a total of 351 samples were determined for the purpose of the study however the response rate was 82.05% with 288 responds qualifying for the analysis. Descriptive analysis was used and the findings reveal that most of the business owned by youth entrepreneurs employed more people though their initial investments were very low. The study also shows that most of the present business owners has plan of expanding their business in future which will create more jobs. From the studies, it shows that unemployment rate in Bhutan fluctuates and is mainly because of change in the supply and demand in the job markets. It also shows that despite high unemployment rate in the country, preferences for job among the youth remain same. They prefer to join civil servants followed by corporations, NGOs and self-employment or entrepreneurship as the last option. From this preferences of job and trend of high unemployment rate in the country, it can conclude that there is no refugee in the country nor can say that there is entrepreneurial effect as the entrepreneurship culture in the country is in the verge of developing, therefore entrepreneurial effect can only be tested after some years when the entrepreneurship culture in the country is fully developed.

Book MSME and Business Entrepreneurship English

Download or read book MSME and Business Entrepreneurship English written by Navneet Singh and published by Navneet Singh. This book was released on with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MSME stands for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. These are businesses that fall below certain thresholds of size, turnover, and investment. They play a crucial role in economic development by fostering entrepreneurship, generating employment, and promoting inclusive growth. Here’s how MSMEs and business entrepreneurship intersect: Starting Point for Entrepreneurs: Many MSMEs begin as entrepreneurial ventures. Entrepreneurs often start small and grow their businesses over time. MSMEs provide a platform for budding entrepreneurs to test their ideas, gain experience, and establish themselves in the market. Innovation and Creativity: MSMEs are known for their agility and ability to innovate. Entrepreneurship within these enterprises often drives new ideas, processes, and products. This innovation can lead to competitiveness and growth within the sector. Job Creation: MSMEs are significant job creators, especially in developing economies. Entrepreneurship within MSMEs not only generates employment for the entrepreneurs themselves but also for a multitude of employees hired as these businesses expand. Economic Contribution: MSMEs contribute to the overall economic output of a country or region. Through entrepreneurial activities, these enterprises can contribute to GDP growth, exports, and tax revenues, thereby bolstering the economy. Challenges and Support: Entrepreneurs in the MSME sector face unique challenges such as access to finance, market access, regulatory compliance, and technology adoption. Governments and organizations often provide support through policies, financial aid, training programs, and incubation centres to nurture entrepreneurship within MSMEs. Role in Local Development: MSMEs are often deeply embedded in local communities. Entrepreneurial activities within these enterprises can stimulate local economies, improve infrastructure, and raise living standards by providing goods and services locally. Overall, MSMEs and business entrepreneurship are closely intertwined, with entrepreneurship serving as a driving force behind innovation, economic growth, and social development within the MSME sector.

Download or read book Government SMEs and Entrepreneurship Development written by Robert A. Blackburn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent decades have seen substantial growth in the range of assistance programmes for SMEs and entrepreneurs across the world. Once regarded as peripheral to the economy and public policy, the role of small firms and of entrepreneurship is now recognized as of key importance in the economic growth and development strategies of many nations. The range of interventions and support focused on promoting SMEs and entrepreneurship is substantial and expanding, so Government, SMEs and Entrepreneurship Development asks ’what are some of the main policy instruments being used, and how effective are they?’ It considers policies in different countries, examines key interventions and tools used to promote entrepreneurship and SME development and concludes with contributions on how to best evaluate their effectiveness. The contributor chapters by academics and practitioners from businesses, enterprise development agencies and governments, are empirical or evidence-based and use both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Drawing on experience from a wide range of both developed and emerging countries and economies, the contributions focus on the broad strategies that different governments and communities have adopted to foster entrepreneurship and SMEs; the policy tools and instruments that can be used to promote small business and entrepreneurship; and on the outcomes of policy instruments and the methods used to evaluate interventions. Their findings will help researchers, policy-makers, economic development officers, civil servants, elected officials, and business associations to better understand the issues in this important field.

Book Leveraging Economy Through MSMEs

Download or read book Leveraging Economy Through MSMEs written by Nisha K. M. and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new millennium is seen as an epoch of entrepreneurship with entrepreneurs perceiving novel opportunities, organizing resources, undertaking risks to pursue their goals in establishing innovative ventures for scaling new horizons. Women entrepreneurs have the potency to confront numerous challenges, such as creating equity, equilibrium, ensuring sustainable and inclusive socio economic development in divergent economies, by seizing tremendous business opportunities in the contemporary commercial world. Kerala, the southern State of India, is experiencing an economic renovation through technological transformation and, in particular, through the growth of women oriented Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The study aims to; identify the growth trends of women's entrepreneurship in the micro enterprises of Kerala; examine whether women's entrepreneurial activities significantly vary across the form of women owned enterprises, type of organization and nature of activity; and also explore the prospects and challenges faced by women entrepreneurs through micro entrepreneurial activities. Research methodology involves the application of descriptive quantitative analysis on the secondary data primarily collected from the database of Directorate of Industries and District Industries Centre for a period of 7 years extending from 2007-08 to 2013-14. Findings reveal that MSMEs spawn better income distribution, by operating in heterogeneous areas of the economy with limited capital and creating more employment opportunities, thereby reducing poverty and inequalities. The trend analysis reflects an escalation in the number of enterprises, investments, profits and employment opportunities generated especially through micro enterprises of women. They play a crucial role in the economy in terms of creating self employment and generating employment opportunities for others. A paradigm shift is seen in the role of women's entrepreneurship in terms of innovation, attitudes, leadership qualities, competitiveness, entrepreneurial skill and absorbing new entrants to the job market, empowering marginalized women.

Book Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in North East India

Download or read book Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in North East India written by Navin Kumar Rajpal and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India is home to a large number of small entrepreneurs. The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a dominant role in the economic development of India not only by providing employment opportunities to the large section of society but also by making a significant contribution to India's GDP and export. The major advantages of this sector are higher employment generation and income potential at low capital cost. The North Eastern Region (NER) of India is among the major backward regions of the country. The main reason for their uneven growth is their geographical location and distance from mainland. Further, factors like climatic conditions, poor infrastructure, political disturbances, local dominance and market unavailability have retarded the growth of industries in this region. The MSME sector provides a new hope not only to the unemployed population of the region but also in bringing overall balanced growth. This paper presents a comparative picture of MSME development in India and its NER. Further, special emphasis has been laid on the growth of MSME sector in different states of NER, their composition, and reasons for their backwardness and lower growth.

Book Small and Medium Enterprises Growth and Poverty

Download or read book Small and Medium Enterprises Growth and Poverty written by Thorsten Beck and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2003 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beck, Demirgüç-Kunt, and Levine explore the relationship between the relative size of the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, economic growth, and poverty using a new database on the share of SME labor in the total manufacturing labor force. Using a sample of 76 countries, they find a strong association between the importance of SMEs and GDP per capita growth. This relationship, however, is not robust to controlling for simultaneity bias. So, while a large SME sector is characteristic of successful economies, the data fail to support the hypothesis that SMEs exert a causal impact on growth. Furthermore, the authors find no evidence that SMEs reduce poverty. Finally, they find qualified evidence that the overall business environment facing both large and small firms--as measured by the ease of firm entry and exit, sound property rights, and contract enforcement--influences economic growth. This paper--a product of Finance, Development Research Group--is part of a larger effort in the group to understand the role of SMEs.

Book Fostering Resilience through Micro Small and Medium Enterprises

Download or read book Fostering Resilience through Micro Small and Medium Enterprises written by Tulus T.H. Tambunan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-30 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia based on various primary and secondary field surveys. In doing so, the book provides a regional comparison of countries in Asia- Pacific, covering issues such as employment generation, formation of gross domestic product (GDP), export development, development constraints, productivity, and investment. To achieve this, the book analyzes the role of partnerships between MSMEs such as large companies, banks and government institutions, and the role of cooperatives. It also includes studies on women’s entrepreneurship in Indonesia, and also explores the crisis mitigating measures (CMMs) widely adopted by MSMEs affected by financial crises in the past. Finally, the book also examines the development of financial technology (FinTech), and in particular peer-to-peer (P2P) lending and how this can serve as an alternative source of funding for MSMEs in Indonesia. Aspects of this book would be useful to students, researchers, practitioners, and also those interested in economic-related sustainable development goals (SDGs), given the importance the United Nations (UN) has assigned to MSMEs for taking a lead in employment creation, and poverty eradication.
