Book excerpt: Micro PAVER is a microcomputer version of the PAVER Pavement Maintenance Management System. PAVER is a field-tested, validated pavement maintenance management for airports, cities, counties, and military installations which is designed to optimize the funds allocated for pavement maintenance and rehabilitation (M & R). This report discusses the development of the Micro PAVER program and its capabilities in the areas of pavement network inventory, project prioritization, inspection scheduling, determining present and future network condition, determining maintenance and rehabilitation needs, budget planning, and economic analysis. The Micro PAVER technology is based on the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) survey and rating procedure developed at USA-CERL. The PCI, which is a numerical index from 0 to 100, is a measure of the pavement's structural integrity and operational condition and is computed as a function of distress type, severity, and quantity. The PCI provides an objective and consistent measure of pavement condition. Micro PAVER provides data and procedures for practical decisionmaking to identify cost-effective maintenance and rehabilitation needs for roads, streets, parking lots, and airfield pavements. The Micro PAVER system shows the effects on the pavement network of performing no major rehabilitation, allows the determination of life cycle costs for various M & R alternatives, and provides a rational and objective basis for evaluating pavement condition and determining M & R needs and priorities.

Download or read book Implementation of a Pavement Management System for Virginia s General Aviation Airports written by Kenneth H. McGhee and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the activities undertaken to implement a pavement management system at 56 general aviation airports coming under the jurisdiction of the Virginia Department of Aviation (VDOAV). The system, which is called Micro-PAVER, is a proprietary program developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It is reported to be used at many airports in the U.S. and abroad and by many local government agencies in the U.S. Implementation involved the training and the use of highway employees as airport inspectors, the development of an historical data base for each airport, cataloging the current condition of each runway pavement, and the development and inclusion of feasible maintenance policies and their estimated costs in a computer package. Finally, a series of condition and projected future condition reports as well as reports concerning the estimated rehabilitation costs were developed from the computer package for each airport. The project covered a period of approximately 18 months and utilized nearly 50 VDOT employees. Several recommendations to the VDOAV concerning the future of general aviation airport pavement management are included.
Download or read book Pavement Management for Airports Roads and Parking Lots written by M.Y. Shahin and published by Springer. This book was released on 1994-08-31 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emphasizing sound, cost-effective management rather than emergency repairs, this comprehensive volume offers practical guidelines on evaluating and managing pavements for airports, roads, and parking lots. The author focuses on the implementation and maintenance of successful management strategies for both network and project levels, with repair techniques also described . Detailed chapters: 1) outline step-by-step procedures for project and network level pavement management 2) illustrate effective cost analysis and budget planning for pavement maintenance 3) guide the reader in the selection and use of non-destructive deflection, roughness measurement, and friction measurement equipment 4) present state-of-the-art pavement rehabilitation and condition prediction techniques 5) demonstrates the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) procedure for airfields and surfaced and unsurfaced roads. Extensive appendices serve as a field manual for identifying all types of pavement distress and their causes, and hundred of photographs facilitate accurate pavement evaluation. Civil and pavement engineers will find complete information on pavement inspection, evaluation, and management in this indispensable reference.
Download or read book Pavement Asset Management written by Ralph Haas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-04-27 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive and practical, Pavement Asset Management provides an essential resource for educators, students and those in public agencies and consultancies who are directly responsible for managing road and airport pavements. The book is comprehensive in the integration of activities that go into having safe and cost-effective pavements using the best technologies and management processes available. This is accomplished in seven major parts, and 42 component chapters, ranging from the evolution of pavement management to date requirements to determining needs and priority programming of rehabilitation and maintenance, followed by structural design and economic analysis, implementation of pavement management systems, basic features of working systems and finally by a part on looking ahead. The most current methodologies and practical applications of managing pavements are described in this one-of-a-kind book. Real world up-to-date examples are provided, as well as an extensive list of references for each part.
