Book Metrological Infrastructure

Download or read book Metrological Infrastructure written by Beat Jeckelmann and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metrology is part of the essential but largely hidden infrastructure of the modern world. This book concentrates on the infrastructure aspects of metrology. It introduces the underlying concepts: International system of units, traceability and uncertainty; and describes the concepts that are implemented to assure the comparability, reliability and quantifiable trust of measurement results. It is shown what benefits the traditional metrological principles have in fields as medicine or in the evaluation of cyber physical systems.

Book Mass Metrology

Download or read book Mass Metrology written by S. V. Gupta and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-25 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Mass Metrology: The Newly Defined Kilogram has been thoroughly revised to reflect the recent redefinition of the kilogram in terms of Planck’s constant. The necessity of defining the kilogram in terms of physical constants was already underscored in the first edition. However, the kilogram can also be defined in terms of Avogadro’s number, using a collection of ions of heavy elements, by the levitation method, or using voltage and watt balances. The book also addresses the concepts of gravitational, inertial and conventional mass, and describes in detail the variation of acceleration due to gravity. Further topics covered in this second edition include: the effect of gravity variations on the reading of electronic balances derived with respect to latitude, altitude and earth topography; the classification of weights by the OIML; and maximum permissible error in different categories of weights prescribed by national and international organizations. The book also discusses group weighing techniques and the use of nanotechnology for the detection of mass differences as small as 10-24 g. Last but not least, readers will find details on the XRCD method for defining the kilogram in terms of Planck’s constant.

Book Metrology in Industry

Download or read book Metrology in Industry written by French College of Metrology and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metrology is an integral part of the structure of today’s world: navigation and telecommunications require highly accurate time and frequency standards; human health and safety relies on authoritative measurements in diagnosis and treatment, as does food production and trade; global climate studies also depend on reliable and consistent data. Moreover, international trade practices increasingly require institutions to display demonstrated conformity to written standards and specifications. As such, having relevant and reliable results of measurements and tests in compliance with mutually recognised standards can be a technical, commercial and statutory necessity for a company. This book, the results of a working group from the French College of Metrology and featuring chapters written by a range of experts from a variety of European countries, gives a comprehensive and international treatment of the subject. Academics involved in metrology as well as people involved in the metrology capacities of companies and institutions will find this book of great interest.

Book Comprehensive Mass Metrology

Download or read book Comprehensive Mass Metrology written by Manfred Kochsiek and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2000-02-22 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: M. Kochsiek, M. Glaser (eds.) Comprehensive Mass Metrology Mass determination is of fundamental importance for science, technology and economics. Technical measuring systems range from ultramicro balances to weighing machines for freight trains; massive objects range from subatomic particles to galaxies. Comprehensive and topical, this reference work -- edited by scientists of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, Germany -- covers the whole field of mass determination. Starting from physical foundations, it describes virtually all measurement techniques in detail and gives a thorough overview over scientific experiments related to the determination of masses. Reports on contemporary problems, such as a new definition of the kilogram, historical excursions and a list of references without competition make this book an absolute must for everyone dealing with questions relating to mass determination in fundamental research, technical application, calibration service, and standardization. From the contents: - Mass as a Physical Quantity - The Determination of Mass - Mass Comparators - Quantities Derived from Mass and their Determination
