Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2024-06-03 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the results of the latest in a long-running research project using the RIMES instrument, developed by scholars in Spain. Here, RIMES is used to measure the extent of social exclusion resulting from the penal system in comparative perspective. The volume shows the results of the application of the instrument in seven criminal justice systems: Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, England and Wales, California, and New York. Divided into two parts, the first provides a general overview of the RIMES instrument, including a discussion of the theoretical model and the methodology. The second part focuses on the results of the application of RIMES in the seven jurisdictions. The comparative results are organised according to the nine dimensions included in the RIMES instrument: control of public spaces; legal safeguards; sentencing and sanctions systems; harshest penalties; prison rules; preventive intervention; legal and social status of offenders and ex-offenders; police and criminal records; and youth criminal justice. The last chapter summarizes the comparative results and ranks them in terms of the findings on social exclusion. The book will be of interest to academics, researchers and policy-makers working in the areas of Comparative Criminal Justice, Criminology, Criminal Law and Policy.

Download or read book Learning to Apply written by Quince Duncan and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2013-02-22 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book Five of the Learning to Apply Series, is a consolidated version of two former manuals, titled Fieldworks (Duncan, 2010) and Applying Research (Duncan, 2010), used in 10th and llth grades at West College High School. This reform, at the suggestion of Director Cynthia Delgado, is consistent with the fact that the undergraduate paper that Wests students prepare is developed precisely over these two academic years as a single project. During level ten-eleven, students consolidate their capacity for self-education learning how to learn, learning how to comprehend the subjects studied, and learning how to apply the knowledge acquired when faced with todays challenging and changing reality, thereby achieving the final aim of the Series. Students will design and develop an undergraduate report, (tesina in Spanish) which is the final research-report that they are expected to present as part of their graduation process. The tesina is basically an individual study that each student carries out to demonstrate his capacity to formulate a problem, confront it with a basic theoretical framework, using proper methodology and adequate techniques required to close this stage of his academic experience. The course is divided in two parts: Fieldworks, designed to recap formerly acquired knowledge, to set up a professionally oriented research plan and to complete preliminary investigation. The second part, Applying Research, guides students to the completion of their investigation and to the delivery of a competent report.

Book Towards a Comparative Analysis of Social Inequalities between Europe and Latin America

This book was released on 2020-11-13 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access volume identifies the common and specific aspects of social mechanisms that generate inequalities, through comparative analyses of different dimensions in which inequalities are expressed. It includes studies on social inequalities in 5 European and 5 Latin American countries, along 11 thematic axes: inequalities in the labour market and labour trajectories; asymmetries in the relationship between training and employment; inequalities in work and family life; educational inequalities; geographical and social inequalities: ethnicity and language; social inequalities, migration and space; uncertainty, strategies, resources and capabilities; inequality of opportunity: intergenerational social mobility; social policies; gender inequalities; and research methodology. This volume is the result of a large collaborative project on social inequality funded by the European Commission: the International Network for Comparative Analysis of Social Inequalities. Taking into account diverse perspectives and approximations, the collaborators have created a general analytical framework as a model of analysis of social inequalities. The various contributions in this volume help readers gain a global outlook and help reflect on social inequalities in a comparative perspective. This volume addresses social science graduate and postgraduate students, researchers, social policy makers, as well as a broader academic audience interested in social inequality.

Book Qualitative Studies in Quality of Life

Download or read book Qualitative Studies in Quality of Life written by Graciela Tonon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-14 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the use and relevance of qualitative methods for the study of quality of life. It analyzes the role of qualitative researcher and the role of the context and the culture in quality of life studies. It presents the use of qualitative methods in real projects carried out in specific fields: geography, health, community studies, labor life and yoga. Finally, the book proposes the use of mixed methods that are considered as the third methodological approach in social research. The main purpose of using qualitative methods is to understand what it means for participants to be involved in certain events, situations and actions. Such methods help understand the context in which participants act and the influence of that context on their actions. The decision to use a particular methodology implies a philosophic, theoretical and political decision. Qualitative methodology constitutes an approach that is essential for understanding people’s experiences of well-being and discovering new issues related to quality of life.
