Book The Home Base of American China Missions 1880 1920

Download or read book The Home Base of American China Missions 1880 1920 written by Valentin Rabe and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "During the closing decades of the nineteenth century, approximately two dozen Protestant mission societies, which since 1812 had been sending Americans abroad to evangelize non-Christians, coordinated their enterprise and expanded their operations with unprecedented urgency and efficiency. Ambitious innovations characterized the work in traditional and new foreign mission fields, but the most radical changes occurred in the institutionalization of what contemporaries referred to as the home base of the mission movement. Valentin Rabe focuses on the recruitment of personnel, fundraising, administration, promotional propaganda, and other logistical problems faced by the agencies in the United States. When generalizations concerning the American base require demonstration or references to the field of operations, China—the country in which American missionaries applied the greatest proportion of the movement’s resources by the 1920s—is used as the primary illustration."

Book An Experimental Study of Two Methods of Indexing Tactical Imagery

Download or read book An Experimental Study of Two Methods of Indexing Tactical Imagery written by Richard S. Laymon and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experiment conducted to compare two methods--graphic and textual-- of indexing reference materials for use of image interpreters in a tactical image interpretation facility is reported. The objective was to evaluate the two methods for speed and accuracy in locating rolls of reference imagery in a TIIF. Image interpreters trained in the use of area-oriented graphic and textual indexes to tactical imagery on roll film were required in two experiments to obtain from indexes the accession number of rolls of imagery containing coverage for a given area. Interpreter performance with both types of indexes was compared for accuracy and speed. Major findings were: (1) Interpreters took less time on the average with the textual index when areas were small; (2) with the graphic index, less time was taken when areas were large. The longer time taken with the textual index to locate desired imagery for large areas appeared due to recording and analyses tasks required under these conditions. Conclusions point to the greater utility of the graphic index in a manual image processing system where coverage of large geographical areas is required or if image coverage has to be precisely defined. The textual index appears more useful in a computerized system where coverage of small area targets with less definition is the major requirement.

Book Emerging and Re Emerging Organizational Features Work Transitions and Occupational Risk Factors The Good the Bad the Right An Interdisciplinary Perspective

Download or read book Emerging and Re Emerging Organizational Features Work Transitions and Occupational Risk Factors The Good the Bad the Right An Interdisciplinary Perspective written by Giulio Arcangeli and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2019-03-07 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The labor market is evolving very rapidly in recent years, in Europe and worldwide. The fast and deep changes brought a brand-new context of challenges and occupational risks to the attention of stakeholders. The current global financial crisis has increased the economic pressures on companies and they in turn have intensified the effects on employees, particularly in terms of new competition contexts and a lot of stress and mental health issues. Concurrently, social, political, and environmental problems generate under-employment, over-qualification, over-education, low wages for skilled workers, and unmet demand for education. Consequently, both high skilled and low skilled immigrant workers are increasing. In addition, workplaces are continually changing in step with the introduction of new technologies, materials, and work processes, together with the changes in the labor market, the new forms of employment, and the new work organizations. These changes lead to new opportunities for employees and employers – but also to new risks or re-actualization of old organizational risks. According to the EU-OSHA, the key points that describe the evolution that is currently ongoing in the world of work are globalization, the technical innovation, and the aging population. On one hand, some older potential risks are reappearing in organizations: intensive fear and worries, organizational anxiety, boredom, physical violence, alienation, segregation, loneliness, and isolation. On the other hand, re-emerging perceived organizational features seem vital for organizations and more important today than ever. Central constructs in the study of organizational behavior and organizational health such as perceived organizational support, commitment in organizational context, socialization processes, change capacity of organizations, perceived organizational justice, ergonomics, and motivation, nowadays seem increasingly important and renewed.
