Book Methodological School of Management

Download or read book Methodological School of Management written by V. B. Khristenko and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-31 with total page 984 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive guide for business people, government administrators and specialists in management methodology, Methodological School of Management details the original and applied thinking, methods and approaches established by the school in the Soviet era and still operating successfully in modern Russia today. The Methodological School of Management is not an educational institution, but a range of management tools, which evolved as a part of the 'systems movement' during the second half of the twentieth century. The school was created by the pupils of Georgy Petrovich Shchedrovitsky (1929–1994) under whose leadership a body of knowledge – the 'starting capital' of the Methodological School of Management – took shape. The management tools developed by the school are used by its leaders in their current managerial practice. This practice extends to a number of fields: government administration, management of economic sectors, corporate governance and the management of individual corporations. Although the school is less well known to Western specialists in systems engineering methodology and management, this book aims to secure the school a place in the global systems engineering landscape. Its ideas have entered the tool kits of most major control systems and corporations in the world's leading economies, from NASA and Toyota to retail chains – a clear testimony to the value of Georgy Shchedrovitsky's research, ideas and the body of knowledge he left behind. Shortlisted for the CMI Management Book of the Year award, Methodological School of Management offers solutions for resolving tricky managerial situations and achieving organisational targets – essential reading for anyone learning how to manage people and issues alike.

Book Unconventional Methodology in Organization and Management Research

Download or read book Unconventional Methodology in Organization and Management Research written by Alan Bryman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most researchers in organization and management studies stick to two or three traditional research methods like surveys and interviews. Sticking with the familiar is seen as a safe bet, and innovation is discouraged by academic incentives and rewards. But research participants are now suffering from 'survey fatigue', and using the same old methods runs the risk of generating the same old findings. This book describes twelve unconventional methodologies in organization and management research. These include unconventional research settings and data sources, unconventional research designs and data collection methods, unconventional analytic approaches, and designs and methods that exploit new technology developments. The aim is to encourage dialogue and experimentation with regard to the development of innovative, unconventional approaches to organization and management research. Several commentators have criticized the way in which research methods have become more formulaic, and have argued for greater diversity in research approaches. The methodological perspective that the we adopt shapes our interpretation of the information that we gather. Different methods generate different kinds of information, leading to different ways of understanding the phenomena that we are investigating. Our methods influence our styles of theorizing, ways of thinking and reasoning, and forms of writing and reporting research. This book will be of value to academic researchers in organization and management studies, Doctoral candidates, and Masters students on MBA and similar programmes.

Book Problem Solving in Organizations

Download or read book Problem Solving in Organizations written by Joan van Aken and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-06-21 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise introduction to the methodology of problem solving in organizations is an indispensable guide to the design and execution of practical business improvement projects in real organizational settings. The methodology is design-oriented and theory-informed. It encourages students to use the theory gained in their disciplinary courses by showing them how to do so in a fuzzy, ambiguous and politically charged, real-life organizational context. The book provides an in-depth discussion of the various aspects and steps of the process of business and organizational problem-solving. Rather than presenting the methodology as a recipe to be followed, the authors demonstrate how to adapt the approach to specific situations and to be flexible in scheduling the work at the various steps in the process. It will be indispensable to MBA and other students who venture outside the university walls to do real-life fieldwork.

Book The Essence of Research Methodology

Download or read book The Essence of Research Methodology written by Jan Jonker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methodology is the ?eld which is indisputably complex. In the academic world, it is often said to be important, yet in everyday academic practice, it is not always treated accordingly. In teaching, methodology is often a mandatory course. Usually, it consists of learning how to adopt several common approaches when doing research, and how to conceive a research design (often leading to a survey). This usually leads to collecting data on a modest scale and – when the opportunity arises – analysing the data with the help of some statistics. Ask the students of their opinion at the end of such a course and they tend to heave a deep sigh of relief and say, “I have got through it. ” Then their real courses start again, in which methodology often does not play a role at all. We are of the opinion that writing-off methodology in this way is a real pity. It ignores the valuable role that methodology should play in academic teaching as a whole. Here, methodology is presented as a form of thinking and acting that, while obviously entailing research work, can also include the design and change of organisations. This broad approach has been purposefully chosen, as it is almost obvious from research and graduation projects that the students do not really have a clue what methodology involves and, therefore, wasting their time by producing work that has a little quality.
