Book Methodism and It s Methods Classic Reprint

Download or read book Methodism and It s Methods Classic Reprint written by J. T. Crane and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-19 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Methodism and It's Methods The present volume has grown out of the observations, studies, and reflections of an itinerant ministry of thirty - one years. Consequently, whatever defects may be discovered, either in the reasoning or the writing, haste cannot be pleaded in extenuation of them. He that has no love for the Church of Christ, in all its branches, will find little here that he will care to read. They who have not so pondered over its past history as to feel at least some degree of solicitude in regard to the future, their hearts, at times, like Eli's, trembling for the ark of God, will be liable to misconstrue both the aim and the spirit of these pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Methodism IN this short sketch of a great subject the author has tried to put himself into the critical but not un friendly position oi the interested outsider, for whom primarily this volume is intended. This is especially the case in Chapter IV. On the Divisions of Method ism, and in Chapter V. On the Theology and Polity of Methodism. It will be perfectly obvious that, in so short a sketch as the present, many questions have had to be dealt with briefly, which in a work on a larger scale could have been more generously treated. Book The Essentials of Methodism Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Essentials of Methodism Classic Reprint written by Francis J. Mcconnell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Essentials of Methodism If we look at Methodism historically, we soon discern that all its doctrines and cere monials and rules for practice have to do with their effect on inner Spiritual experience. The Methodist movement arose as a protest against formalism in theology and ritual and practice. The early Methodists made no war on the Church Of England except in the attack upon its lack of spirituality. It has been said that Methodism began when John Wesley found his heart strangely warmed, and that the center of the power of Methodism has always been its emphasis upon inner experience. It is as if our forefathers found ready-to - hand doc trinal' statements and ritualistic Observances and rules Of conduct which they proceeded to fill with a new life. Book Methodism Successful and the Internal Causes of Its Success Classic Reprint

Download or read book Methodism Successful and the Internal Causes of Its Success Classic Reprint written by Benjamin Franklin Tefft and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-17 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Methodism Successful, and the Internal Causes of Its Success Such statements, emanating in the one case from the best intellect, and in the other from the highest position among the people of this country, and in both cases from citizens of ripe age and extensive experience and observation, are enough to demonstrate the fact, that Methodism has at last become a power of no secondary importance on this continent; and yet it is a question among Methodists themselves, who ought to know their own affairs, whether their denomination is not still higher, stronger, more in uential and powerful in Europe than in the United States. One thing is certainly clear, that Methodism, which began in obscurity and feebleness, has achieved for itself everywhere a most wonderful success. This point is generally conceded; but there are few persons, nevertheless, on either side of the Atlantic, outside of the pale of Methodism, who have taken the pains to learn the exact character and extent of this success; and there are fewer persons still, I think, either outside or within the denomination, who have so examined or studied its origin and progress, as to be able to state, with philosophical correctness, the organic causes to which its remarkable prosperity and growth are to be attributed. Book One Hundred Years of Methodism in Galesburg Illinois 1847 1947 Classic Reprint

Download or read book One Hundred Years of Methodism in Galesburg Illinois 1847 1947 Classic Reprint written by Earle L. Thompson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from One Hundred Years of Methodism in Galesburg, Illinois, 1847-1947 The First Methodist Church of Galesburg, Illinois is happy to present the historical materials in this volume to its membership and friends. Much time and effort, on the part of many people, has been expended to assemble a series of articles, presented in chronological order, unfold ing the development of the church since its birth in 1847. There is, of course, a brief review of the Wesley family and the arrival of the first Methodist workers in the American colonies. On the surface, it will appear that what is herein presented has to do, primarily, with the temporal development of this Society, listing its struggles and victories and noting some of its leadership. Such procedure is only natural as it is the manner in which we are accustomed to write history. As you read the pages, however, you must bear in mind that back of every new building enterprise, every new department organized, every effort for increased attendance and every campaign for funds, is a deep seated spiritual urge upon which the very life of the Society has depended and continues to depend. John Wesley organized Societies in England, wrote volumes, in the form of pamphlets, about every conceivable need of the people, organized a group to carry the message to the new America, and did much else which had to do with the temporal, but it was all undergirded by the Heart Warming experience he received at the Aldersgate Street meeting in England. Book History of Methodist Reform Synoptical of General Methodism 1703 to 1898 Vol 1

Download or read book History of Methodist Reform Synoptical of General Methodism 1703 to 1898 Vol 1 written by Edward J. Drinkhouse and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of Methodist Reform, Synoptical of General Methodism, 1703 to 1898, Vol. 1: With Special and Comprehensive Reference to Its Most Salient Exhibition in the History of the Methodist Protestant Church Methodist literature without recourse to historians and mono graphists whose coloring is unfavorable to liberal views. As common property it is, therefore, appropriated for information as to the rise and progress of doctrinal Methodism and its spiritual agencies, called means of grace, touching which perfect unity has been preserved among our coreligionists the wide world over; as well as for contrast of governmental methods, equal prosperity attending diverse polities, and thus demonstrating that it was primarily due, not to any particular system, but to the doctrines and means of grace formulated by the Wesleys out of the Scrip tures and the needs of the period. As collateral to this method and an irrefragable corollary from the facts Of history, one of the fundamentals of this work is submitted as proven; to wit, that the dominant system on either shore of the Atlantic is responsible directly or indirectly for all the divisions of Metho dism, and that in consequence organic unity is an impossibility, even if it could be shown politic, until the divisive elements in the dominating systems are eliminated. These reasons must be the author's plea for occupying the entire first volume in what is really a preparation for the History of the Methodist Protestant Church. No apology is therefore offered for the extended space given to the vindication of the two men who have been most vilified and misrepresented, - Dr. White head of the Wesleyan Methodists and James o'kelly of the Asburyan Methodists. In both cases much new information is furnished; and while no effort is made to condone their errors of temperament and judgment, earnest, and it is believed success ful, effort is made to rescue their memories from unmerited Obloquy. It will also be discovered that nowhere in current Methodist history can such a running biography of Francis Asbury be found, portraying every side of his wonderful character and meting out with an even hand the merits and demerits of an unique system, of which he was the father, in emulation Of the methods of John Wesley, the founder of it. Biographically it is believed that valuable new information is furnished, and fuller extracts made from Asbury's Journal than has been essayed by any other historiographer.
