Book Canadian Forest Fire Behavior Prediction FBP System

Download or read book Canadian Forest Fire Behavior Prediction FBP System written by Kelvin G. Hirsch and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Canadian Forest Fire Behaviour Prediction (FBP) System provides a systematic method of assessing fire behaviour. The FBP System has 14 primary inputs that can be divided into 5 general categories: fuels, weather, topography, foliar moisture content, and type and duration of prediction. In the FBP System these inputs are used to mathematically develop 4 primary and 11 secondary outputs. Primary outputs are generally based on a fire intensity equation, and secondary outputs are calculated using a simple elliptical fire growth model. This publication provides diagrams, examples, and exercises that explain the FBP System in a user-oriented manner. This guideline delineates the interpretation of the FBP System's inputs and outputs and details how the predictions are derived.

Book Development and Structure of the Canadian Forest Fire Behavior Prediction System

Download or read book Development and Structure of the Canadian Forest Fire Behavior Prediction System written by Canada. Forestry Canada. Fire Danger Group and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Canadian Forest Fire Behavior Prediction (FBP) System is a subsystem of the larger Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System, which also includes the Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index (FWI) System. The FBP system provides quantitative estimates of head fire spread rate, fuel consumption, fire intensity and fire description and gives estimates of fire area, perimeter, perimeter growth rate and flank and back fire behaviour. This report describes the structure and content of the system and its use with forest fire characteristics.

Book Weather Guide for the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System

Download or read book Weather Guide for the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System written by B. D. Lawson and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This weather guide includes detailed specifications for locating and instrumenting fire weather stations, taking weather observations, and overwintering the Drought Code component of the FWI System. The sensitivity of the FWI System components to weather elements is represented quantitatively. The importance of weather that is not directly observable is discussed in the context of fuel moisture and fire behavior. Current developments in the observation and measurement of fire weather and the forecasting of fire danger are discussed, along with the implications for the reporting of fire weather of increasingly automated fire management information systems.

Book Guide de la M thode Canadienne de Pr vision du Comportement des Incendies de For t PCI 3 me dition

Download or read book Guide de la M thode Canadienne de Pr vision du Comportement des Incendies de For t PCI 3 me dition written by S. W. Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2019-03 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book A Proposed Method to Rank the Intensity of Boreal Forests Fires in Ontario Using Post fire High resolution Aerial Photographs

Download or read book A Proposed Method to Rank the Intensity of Boreal Forests Fires in Ontario Using Post fire High resolution Aerial Photographs written by T. Smith and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fire intensity is a crucial descriptor of fire behaviour that may also be an important determinant of many types of ecological dynamics. However, fire intensity has proven challenging to measure directly. Indirect estimates of fire intensity are often confounded with the ecological effects of the fire, precluding further study of the relationships between intensity and population or community dynamics. In this report, the authors describe a novel method for estimating the intensity of fires in the boreal forest of Ontario using high resolution imagery taken soon after fire. This method relies on an empirical relationship between the branch structure of fire-killed trees (crown fraction burned) and fire intensity rankings provided by the Canadian Forest Fire Behaviour Prediction System (FBP) and its field guide for fire managers. The results of the application of this method to 660 high resolution aerial photography sample plots, each 25 m in diameter, dispersed among 11 fires that occurred in the boreal forest of Ontario in 2005 are described.--Document.

Book Field Guide to Ecosites of Northern Alberta

Download or read book Field Guide to Ecosites of Northern Alberta written by John David Beckingham and published by Canadian Forest Service. This book was released on 1996 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An ecological classification system was developed for Northern Alberta through the analysis of vegetation, soil, site, and forest productivity information. The hierarchical classification system has three levels - ecosite, ecosite phase and plant community type. Thirty-eight ecosites are described with further detail provided by subdivision into ecosite and ecosite phase and plant community type. A soil type classification system that describes 17 soil types was also developed. Management interpretations were made for drought, excess moisture, soil rutting hazard, soil compaction hazard, puddling hazard, soil erosion hazard, frost heave hazard, soil temperature limitations, vegetation competition, and windthrow hazard. Colour photos and drawings for 87 common plants of northern Alberta are presented.
