Book Estimating for Building Civil Engineering Work

Download or read book Estimating for Building Civil Engineering Work written by John Williams and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It deals in a practical and reasonable way with many of the estimating problems which can arise where building and civil engineering works are carried out and to include comprehensive estimating data within the guidelines of good practice. The early part of the book has been completely rewritten to contain chapters useful to students and practitioners alike for the development of the estimating process resulting in the presentation of a tender for construction works. The second and major part of the book contains estimating data fully updated for the major elements in building and civil engineering work, including a new chapter on piling, and a wealth of constants for practical use in estimating. The estimating examples are based on the current edition of the Standard Method of Measurement for Building Works (SMM7). The comprehensive information on basic principles of estimating found in 'Spence Geddes' are still as valid today as the first edition. In this edition the prevailing rates of labour and costs of materials are taken whenever possible as a round figure. Readers will appreciate in the construction industry that prices are continually changing, rise and fall, and that worked examples should therefore be used as a guide to method of calculation substituting in any specific case the current rates applicable to it. In the case of plant output dramatic increases have been experienced in productivity over recent years and again estimators with their own records should substitute values appropriate to their work.

Book CESMM3 Handbook

Book excerpt: The civil engineering standard method of measurement (CESMM) has been well established for 15 years as the standard for the preparation of bills of quantities in civil engineering work. The handbook explains the amendments which have been made to bring CESMM3 into line with the new ICE Conditions of Contract 6th edition and with changes in British Standards. It also covers in detail the rationale behind the new method of measurement for water mains renovation and the completely new Class Z covering simple building works incidental to civil engineering works.

Book Integrated Design and Cost Management for Civil Engineers

Download or read book Integrated Design and Cost Management for Civil Engineers written by Andrew Whyte and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-08-13 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Find Practical Solutions to Civil Engineering Design and Cost Management Problems A guide to successfully designing, estimating, and scheduling a civil engineering project, Integrated Design and Cost Management for Civil Engineers shows how practicing professionals can design fit-for-use solutions within established time frames and reliable budgets. This text combines technical compliance with practical solutions in relation to cost planning, estimating, time, and cost control. It incorporates solutions that are technically sound as well as cost effective and time efficient. It focuses on the integration of design and construction based on solid engineering foundations contained within a code of ethics, and navigates engineers through the complete process of project design, pricing, and tendering. Well illustrated The book uses cases studies to illustrate principles and processes. Although they center on Australasia and Southeast Asia, the principles are internationally relevant. The material details procedures that emphasize the correct quantification and planning of works, resulting in reliable cost and time predictions. It also works toward minimizing the risk of losing business through cost blowouts or losing profits through underestimation. This Text Details the Quest for Practical Solutions That: Are cost effective Can be completed within a reasonable timeline Conform to relevant quality controls Are framed within appropriate contract documents Satisfy ethical professional procedures, and Address the client’s brief through a structured approach to integrated design and cost management Designed to help civil engineers develop and apply a multitude of skill bases, Integrated Design and Cost Management for Civil Engineers can aid them in maintaining relevancy in appropriate design justifications, guide work tasks, control costs, and structure project timelines. The book is an ideal link between a civil engineering course and practice.

Book Measurement using the New Rules of Measurement

Download or read book Measurement using the New Rules of Measurement written by Sean D. C. Ostrowski and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The RICS New Rules of Measurement mean that the construction industry now has a way of allowing a more consistent approach to the measurement and estimating of buildings from the start of a project, right through until the end, and beyond. Measurement using the New Rules of Measurement offers comprehensive guidance on all the technical competencies concerned with measurement throughout the precontract stages and provides a full commentary to the NRM, with detailed and comprehensive examples of how to measure in accordance with this new prescriptive approach. For both students and practitioners, the acquisition of technical competencies is by practice so this book offers step-by-step worked examples to follow as well as an exercise on each topic. helps dispel anxieties about using a new method in an important area of fee generation based on the author’s successful Roadshows, organised by the RICS to promote the NRM companion websites provide support for learning: http://ostrowskiquantities.com and www.wiley.com/go/ostrowski/measurement
