Book Extremes in Atmospheric Processes and Phenomenon Assessment Impacts and Mitigation

Download or read book Extremes in Atmospheric Processes and Phenomenon Assessment Impacts and Mitigation written by Pallavi Saxena and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-26 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book first gives an overview of issues in the studies of atmospheric sciences and then elaborates on extreme events in air pollution, their assessment, impacts, and mitigation strategies. It covers general overview of factors governing in atmosphere that lead to air pollution, description about recent and hazardous air pollution episodes, emergencies and extremes in atmospheric sciences, impact studies on living organisms and atmosphere related to emergencies and possible remedies/mitigation strategies which may also include green growth strategies for management. Increase in anthropogenic activities from different sources results in very high concentrations of air pollutants in the atmospheres and they lead to cause disturbance in seasonal cycles and atmospheric phenomena, ecological imbalance and change in the quality of air. These impacts are the major cause of short-term or long-term effects on living and non-living systems. In the recent years, several instances of extremes atmosphere and air pollution related emergencies causing accidental episodes, fog, smog, health related, heat and cold wave etc. are experienced. This book brings the attention on such issues in atmospheric sciences and discuss the disaster preparedness and management plus emergencies. This book is valuable reading material for students in Environmental Science, Biological Science, Medical Science, Policy Planning, Disaster Management and Agriculture. It’s useful for environmental consultants, researchers and other professionals involved in air quality, plant, humans and disasters related research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aridity prevails over more than one third of the land area of the Earth and over a significant fraction of the oceans as well. Yet to date there has been no comprehensive reference volume or textbook dealing with the weather processes that define the character of desert areas. Desert Meteorology fills this gap by treating all aspects of desert weather.

Book Natural Decadal Climate Variability

Download or read book Natural Decadal Climate Variability written by Vikram M. Mehta and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural Decadal Climate Variability: Societal Impacts is an important work for understanding the natural decadal climate variability (DCV), a phenomenon which has made long lasting impacts on civilizations, especially on water availability and agriculture. This book comprehensively covers multiyear to decadal variations in instrument measured precipitation and temperature, water availability and river flows, crop production, agricultural irrigation, inland water-borne transportation, hydroelectricity generation, and fish and crustacean captures since the 1960s. A longer term perspective is provided with the use of multi-century data on dry and wet epochs based on tree ring information, and corroborating evidence from other literature. This valuable work will benefit climate scientists, meteorologists, hydrologists, agronomists, water transportation planners, resource economists, policymakers, professors, and graduate students and anyone else who has an interest in learning how natural climate phenomena has influenced societies for at least the past 1000 years.

Book Earth System Processes and Disaster Management

Download or read book Earth System Processes and Disaster Management written by Rajiv Sinha and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the fundamental goals of earth system science research is to adopt a more holistic view of the earth as a ‘system’ comprising different domains. The Society of Earth Scientists has brought out this multidisciplinary publication to emphasize the need of an integrated approach to understand the Earth system. It focuses on natural disasters and, in particular, on climate change and its effects in Asia and understanding the significance of these developments within the context of the paleo-climatic record. The later sections of the book then focus on other types of natural disasters as well as those induced by human interaction with our environment.

Book Within Four Walls of the Mind

Download or read book Within Four Walls of the Mind written by Smita Naik Salunke and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Mamma, look what’s happening down there on the street!” Priaanshi exclaimed at 3 am in the morning. I ran along with her to the balcony of her bedroom. There was some commotion happening near a parked ambulance right across the road from our building. Three persons wearing PPE kits were trying to drag in a patient into the ambulance. Before I could try to make sense of what was happening, the ambulance doors shut, the driver stepped on the accelerator and whizzed past. It was as if death was lurking nearby and coming closer and closer. Was the virus spreading through the air? Would it kill all of us? The fear and panic was already causing palpitations. What would happen next? Would the virus ever go away? Will the world find a solution to bring an end to the spread of this nasty, mysterious microorganism? There were no answers to the constant questions that were bombarding every cell in my brain. Neither did I have an answer when Priaanshi asked me with tears in her eyes, “Ma, what’s exactly happening? What will happen to us? Will all of us die?”
