Book Seals and Sealing Handbook

Download or read book Seals and Sealing Handbook written by Robert K. Flitney and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-18 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wherever machinery operates there will be seals of some kind ensuring that the machine remains lubricated, the fluid being pumped does not leak, or the gas does not enter the atmosphere. Seals are ubiquitous, in industry, the home, transport and many other places. This 5th edition of a long-established title covers all types of seal by application: static, rotary, reciprocating etc. The book bears little resemblance to its predecessors, and Robert Flitney has re-planned and re-written every aspect of the subject. No engineer, designer or manufacturer of seals can afford to be without this unique resource. - Wide engineering market - Bang up to date! - Only one near competitor, now outdated

Book Glass to Metal Seals

Download or read book Glass to Metal Seals written by Ian W. Donald and published by Society of Glass Technology. This book was released on 2021-10-10 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although many new innovations have been made in the commercial exploitation of glass-to-metal seals and related components, and the science underpinning these systems is now more thoroughly understood, many of the topics covered in Partridge's original monograph on glass-to-metal seals are still highly relevant today. This is particularly true in the areas of underlying technology, including metal and glass preparation prior to sealing, and certain aspects of stress analysis. The original monograph also continues to provide an excellent introduction to the general area of glass-to-metal systems, as well as providing an historical overview of the early work and technology in this area, particularly in relation to archaic electrical components. The primary purpose of this new monograph is to provide a thorough review of glass-to-metal seals, with particular reference to the more recent developments in the scientific, technical and commercial fields. Current applications for glass-to-metal seals are extraordinarily diverse, ranging from the humble, taken-for-granted light bulb to complex aerospace and military components developed within the last few years. New applications also continue to emerge where the unique properties of these systems can be exploited, thus making a monograph of this nature timely. It is therefore also the purpose of this monograph to highlight new and emerging fields which are benefiting from the application of glass-to-metal seal and related technologies. In this respect, the scope of the monograph has been broadened to include the related topic of glass-to-metal coatings, coatings in general having found many applications in areas ranging from domestic paraphernalia to the aerospace industry. In addition, the more recent and highly versatile glass-ceramic-to-metal systems are reviewed, glass-ceramics not, of course, having been invented in Partridge's day. Some of the newer ceramic-to-metal, glass-to-glass, glass-to-ceramic and ceramic-to-ceramic systems are also covered briefly, areas very much in their infancy in 1949.

The volume of data, inadequacies in the data, and the tens of thousands of materials to choose from can overwhelm the would-be user. The Materials Selector addresses all the problems faced by materials scientists and engineers. In its three volumes you will find the properties, performance, and processability of metals, plastics, carbon and graphite, glasses, ceramics, polymerics, and composites. The characteristics and comparative economics of the manufacturing routes that convert these materials into engineering components.

Book Integral Mechanical Attachment

Download or read book Integral Mechanical Attachment written by Robert W. Messler and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integral Mechanical Attachment, highlights on one of the world's oldest technologies and makes it new again. Think of buttons and toggles updated to innovative snaps, hooks, and interlocking industrial parts. Mechanical fasteners have been around as long as mankind, but manufacturers of late have been re-discovering their quick, efficient and fail proof advantages when using them as interlocking individual components as compared with such traditional means of joining materials like welding, soldering, gluing and using nuts bolts, rivets and other similar devices. For many years, it has been virtually impossible to find a single-source reference that provides an overview of the various categories of fastening systems and their various applications. Design engineers should find this book to be an invaluable source of detailed, illustrated information on how such fasteners work, and how they can save time and money. Students, too, will find this book to be extremely useful for courses in mechanical design, machine design, product development and other related areas where fastening and joining subjects are taught. This will be the first reference book to come along in many years that will fully illustrate the major classes of integral mechanical fasteners, replete with examples of typical assembly and ideas and suggestions for further research.* Covers all major techniques for integral mechanical attachment within the context of other types of joining including chemical (adhesive) bonding, melting and solidification (welding, soldering, brazing), and mechanical joining (fasteners and part features)* Includes specific chapters for particular attachment considerations by materials type, including metals, plastics, ceramics, glass, wood, and masonry* Provides unique coverage of mechanical/electrical connections for reliable contact and use
