Book Mine Bookkeeping

Download or read book Mine Bookkeeping written by Robert McGarraugh and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-26 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mine Bookkeeping: A Comprehensive System of Records and Accounts for Mining Operations of Moderate Dimensions To make an intelligent analysis of the work at hand, the cost of performing each operation must be determined in terms of the unit involved; this unit may be ton of ore milled, ton of ore stoped, foot of drift or crosscut, etc. It is obvious that to be of economic value, a saving in the cost per ton of ore produced must not be accompanied by a corresponding drop in the grade of that ore; on the other hand, an increase in the cost of production may be more than offset by the gain in recovery which has been effected. The grade of ore which can be mined and treated at a profit should be definitely known. It is sometimes the case that this factor has not received suffi cient consideration, or that it has not been kept before those who are responsible for the actual mining operations. Where appreciable variations in mining conditions occur in different parts of the mine, the grade of ore which can be taken out at a profit from each working place should be determined. Ore which assays above this grade can be profitably mined and treated; anything of lower grade can only be handled at a loss and should be left. In case that a shortage of ore which can be mined and treated at an actual profit occurs, the grade at which ore can be handled in preference to running below capacity must be determined. Muck from development faces must be disposed of, and it is then the question whether rock which is already broken and in the car should go to the treat ment plant or over the dump. Book Bituminous Coal Mine Accounting Classic Reprint

Download or read book Bituminous Coal Mine Accounting Classic Reprint written by W. B. Reed and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-25 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bituminous Coal Mine Accounting The importance of proper accounting has probably never been more clearly felt than at the present time. The necessity for having an adequate cost accounting system has been stressed within the past few years by trade associations, government agencies and accountants generally. In the coal industry this was a particularly important subject during the recent war, sales prices being fixed by the Fuel Ad ministration based ou cost. At all times a knowledge of the cost of production is an absolute prerequisite to price making. A corporation without a cost system is like a ship without a com pass. Business is conducted for the purpose of making a profit, and the business man is entitled to a margin between his cost and selling price. An adequate cost finding system is intended to' eliminate guess work. To be of value to the industry such a cost system should be more than a historical record of trans actions long closed. Book A Treatise on Cost Accounting as Applied to Coal Mining Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Treatise on Cost Accounting as Applied to Coal Mining Classic Reprint written by James J. Roby and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Cost Accounting as Applied to Coal Mining Believing that investors in coal property suffer serious losses from the operation of mines through lack of a proper and uniform method of computing the cost of production, I submit this work with the view that it will enable Coal Operators to accurately determine the cost of producing a ton of coal and the proper selling price thereof. In dealing with the subject, I have considered that the Investor, or Coal Operator, is entitled to charge a price for his product that will cover all cost, including interest on the investment, the risks of the industry, the return of the investment during the life of the operation, and a profit equal to that realized in other industries. Giving due consideration to the public, or buyer, (always an interested party in any question), the fairness of the suggestion may be seen by reference to the decision of the late Judge Tayler in the recent Street Railway controversy in the city of Cleveland, which was, substantially and brie y, that the owner was entitled-to charge, for its service, rates that would pay all cost of operation, mainte nance and renewals to keep the property intact, and 6% interest on the property value which is increased by the cost of extensions and additions. And further, that, should the city demand municipal owner ship, the owner should be paid the property value plus 10 per cent. I have included in the accounting system of the Ojibway Mining Co. methods for a mill, in order to round out the subject, although this company has not built a mill at the present time. There will no doubt be found errors, both of omission and commission, although I have endeavored to avoid them as much as possible; however, I will be glad to correct in future editions any inaccuracies that are brought to my attention. I wish to acknowledge the many courtesies of my friends who assisted in gathering together and preparing the material in this volume. I am particularly thankful to Mr. E. B. Wilson, editor of "Mines & Minerals," for the use of the articles: "Recording Engineering Data at the Calumet & Arizona Mine," "Recording Engineering Data at the Boston & Montana Con. Mino," and "Recording Geological Data at the Calumet & Arizona Mine"; also to Mr. E. E. Whiteley, Mr. Lee Hayes and Mr. Thorald F. Field, the respective authors of these articles. I am also indebted to Mr. L. E. Camomile, Manager of "Mines & Methods," for the use of the material in the chapter on the methods of the Utah Con. Mining Co., which originally appeared in that journal. In conclusion I commend this volume to the kind consideration of mining men in general and mining accountants in particular, with the hope that it will bo of material benefit to the mining industry of this country.
