Download or read book METAL FILTERS FOR PRESSURIZED FLUID BED COMBUSTION PFBC APPLICATIONS written by M. A. Alvin and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced coal and biomass-based gas turbine power generation technologies (IGCC, PFBC, PCFBC, and Hipps) are currently under development and demonstration. Efforts at the Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation (SWPC) have been focused on the development and demonstration of hot gas filter systems as an enabling technology for power generation. As part of the demonstration effort, SWPC has been actively involved in the development of advanced filter materials and component configuration, has participated in numerous surveillance programs characterizing the material properties and microstructure of field-tested filter elements, and has undertaken extended, accelerated filter life testing programs. This report reviews SWPC's material and component assessment efforts, identifying the performance, stability, and life of porous commercial metal, advanced alloy, and intermetallic filters under simulated, pressurized fluidized-bed combustion (PFBC) conditions.

Book Metal Filter Materials in Combustion Environments

Download or read book Metal Filter Materials in Combustion Environments written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hot gas filtration in pressurized fluidized bed combustion (PFBC) systems has been proven below 750 C (1400 F). Advanced PFBC designs, focused on operational and efficiency improvements, will require filtration at higher temperatures. E.g., in first-generation advanced PFBCs, the filters will have to perform at 870 C (1600 F), while second-generation units, with both carbonizers for fuel-gas production and fluidized-bed combustors, will eventually require filters to operate up to 930 and 870 C (1700 and 1600 F). Results from the final test campaign at the Tidd PFBC Demonstration Project showed that at these higher temperatures, ceramic filter reliability may be problematical, so it will be of interest to re-examine the possibility of using advanced metal hot-gas filters for these advanced PFBC applications in view of the exceptional corrosion resistance of Fe aluminides in high-temperature sulfur-bearing atmospheres. For the second-generation PFBCs, performance criteria for the carbonizer filters are essentially the same as those for integrated gasification combined cycle systems (reducing environments). For the combustor, issues are similar to those of advanced first-generation units (oxidizing) except that the fuel (byproduct char from carbonizer) should be somewhat clearer and filter performance requirements less demanding than for PFBC systems such as the Tidd plant. For the carbonizer system, the nearer term (market entry) goals are to develop filter materials that will perform at 650-760 C (1200-1400 F), with an increase to 800-930 C (1500-1700 F) for improved cycle efficiency.

Book Fabrication of Commercial scale Fiber reinforced Hot gas Filters by Chemical Vapor Deposition

Download or read book Fabrication of Commercial scale Fiber reinforced Hot gas Filters by Chemical Vapor Deposition written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Goal was to fabricate a filter for removing particulates from hot gases; principal applications would be in advanced utility processes such as pressurized fluidized bed combustion or coal gasification combined cycle systems. Filters were made in two steps: make a ceramic fiber preform and coat it with SiC by chemical vapor infiltration (CVD). The most promising construction was felt/filament wound. Light, tough ceramic composite filters can be made; reinforcement by continuous fibers is needed to avoid brittleness. Direct metal to filter contact does not damage the top which simplifies installation. However, much of the filter surface of felt/filament wound structures is closed over by the CVD coating, and the surface is rough and subject to delamination. Recommendations are given for improving the filters.

Download or read book Recent Developments on Improved Materials and Low Cost Fabrication Options for Candle Filters written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Development work continues on the use of self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS) or combustion synthesis of inorganic materials (CSIM) to produce oxide based candle filter elements for hot gas clean-up (HGCU). Material combinations possessing suitable mechanical properties and corrosion resistance were identified and studied within the context of combustion synthesis. These combinations were selected to match the temperature, strength and corrosion resistance requirements of operation in pressurized, fluidized bed combustion (PFBC) environments. Filter permeability and capture efficiency was also examined. In addition, molding techniques to maximize oxygen diffusion/reaction completion and heating/re-heating cycles have been examined to reduce the cost of fabrication while maximizing simplicity.
