Book Entire and Meromorphic Functions

Download or read book Entire and Meromorphic Functions written by Lee A. Rubel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics is a beautiful subject, and entire functions is its most beautiful branch. Every aspect of mathematics enters into it, from analysis, algebra, and geometry all the way to differential equations and logic. For example, my favorite theorem in all of mathematics is a theorem of R. NevanJinna that two functions, meromorphic in the whole complex plane, that share five values must be identical. For real functions, there is nothing that even remotely corresponds to this. This book is an introduction to the theory of entire and meromorphic functions, with a heavy emphasis on Nevanlinna theory, otherwise known as value-distribution theory. Things included here that occur in no other book (that we are aware of) are the Fourier series method for entire and mero morphic functions, a study of integer valued entire functions, the Malliavin Rubel extension of Carlson's Theorem (the "sampling theorem"), and the first-order theory of the ring of all entire functions, and a final chapter on Tarski's "High School Algebra Problem," a topic from mathematical logic that connects with entire functions. This book grew out of a set of classroom notes for a course given at the University of Illinois in 1963, but they have been much changed, corrected, expanded, and updated, partially for a similar course at the same place in 1993. My thanks to the many students who prepared notes and have given corrections and comments.

Book Meromorphic Functions over non Archimedean Fields

Download or read book Meromorphic Functions over non Archimedean Fields written by Pei-Chu Hu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-09-30 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces value distribution theory over non-Archimedean fields, starting with a survey of two Nevanlinna-type main theorems and defect relations for meromorphic functions and holomorphic curves. Secondly, it gives applications of the above theory to, e.g., abc-conjecture, Waring's problem, uniqueness theorems for meromorphic functions, and Malmquist-type theorems for differential equations over non-Archimedean fields. Next, iteration theory of rational and entire functions over non-Archimedean fields and Schmidt's subspace theorems are studied. Finally, the book suggests some new problems for further research. Audience: This work will be of interest to graduate students working in complex or diophantine approximation as well as to researchers involved in the fields of analysis, complex function theory of one or several variables, and analytic spaces.

Book Uniqueness Theory of Meromorphic Functions

Download or read book Uniqueness Theory of Meromorphic Functions written by Chung-Chun Yang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-10-04 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first monograph in the field of uniqueness theory of meromorphic functions dealing with conditions under which there is the unique function satisfying given hypotheses. Developed by R. Nevanlinna, a Finnish mathematician, early in the 1920's, research in the field has developed rapidly over the past three decades with a great deal of fruitful results. This book systematically summarizes the most important results in the field, including many of the authors' own previously unpublished results. In addition, useful skills and simple proofs are introduced. This book is suitable for higher level and graduate students who have a basic grounding in complex analysis, but will also appeal to researchers in mathematics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book is meant as a text for a course on complex analysis at the advanced undergraduate level, or first-year graduate level. Somewhat more material has been included than can be covered at leisure in one term, to give opportunities for the instructor to exercise his taste, and lead the course in whatever direction strikes his fancy at the time. A large number of routine exercises are included for the more standard portions, and a few harder exercises of striking theoretical interest are also included, but may be omitted in courses addressed to less advanced students. In some sense, I think the classical German prewar texts were the best (Hurwitz-Courant, Knopp, Bieberbach, etc. ) and I would recom mend to anyone to look through them. More recent texts have empha sized connections with real analysis, which is important, but at the cost of exhibiting succinctly and clearly what is peculiar about complex anal ysis: the power series expansion, the uniqueness of analytic continuation, and the calculus of residues. The systematic elementary development of formal and convergent power series was standard fare in the German texts, but only Cartan, in the more recent books, includes this material, which I think is quite essential, e. g. , for differential equations. I have written a short text, exhibiting these features, making it applicable to a wide variety of tastes. The book essentially decomposes into two parts.

Book Unicity of Meromorphic Mappings

Download or read book Unicity of Meromorphic Mappings written by Pei-Chu Hu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a given meromorphic function I(z) and an arbitrary value a, Nevanlinna's value distribution theory, which can be derived from the well known Poisson-Jensen for mula, deals with relationships between the growth of the function and quantitative estimations of the roots of the equation: 1 (z) - a = O. In the 1920s as an application of the celebrated Nevanlinna's value distribution theory of meromorphic functions, R. Nevanlinna [188] himself proved that for two nonconstant meromorphic func tions I, 9 and five distinctive values ai (i = 1,2,3,4,5) in the extended plane, if 1 1- (ai) = g-l(ai) 1M (ignoring multiplicities) for i = 1,2,3,4,5, then 1 = g. Fur 1 thermore, if 1- (ai) = g-l(ai) CM (counting multiplicities) for i = 1,2,3 and 4, then 1 = L(g), where L denotes a suitable Mobius transformation. Then in the 19708, F. Gross and C. C. Yang started to study the similar but more general questions of two functions that share sets of values. For instance, they proved that if 1 and 9 are two nonconstant entire functions and 8 , 82 and 83 are three distinctive finite sets such 1 1 that 1- (8 ) = g-1(8 ) CM for i = 1,2,3, then 1 = g.

Book Normal Families Of Meromorphic Functions

Download or read book Normal Families Of Meromorphic Functions written by Qitai Zhuang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-04-27 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents in a clear and systematic manner the general theory of normal families, quasi-normal families and Qm-normal families of meromorphic functions, and various applications. Much of this book contains results of the author's research, among them is the notion of Qm-normality which includes the classical notions of normality and quasi-normality introduced by Montel as particular cases. In this book, the notion of closed families of meromorphic functions is also introduced. In addition, applications concerning the existence of the solution of various extremal problems for certain classes of univalent or multivalent functions can also be found.

Book Fix points and Factorization of Meromorphic Functions

Download or read book Fix points and Factorization of Meromorphic Functions written by Qitai Zhuang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1990 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fix-points and factorization of meromorphic functions have become two research topics that have attracted many complex analysts' attention throughout the world; notably in U.S., China, and Japan. The first two chapters reintroduce Nevanlinna's theory of meromorphic functions and Montel's normal families theory for entire functions. Based on these, several theorems on fix-points were derived. The last two chapters introduce the factorization theory and the relationships between the fix-points and factorization; many recent results in factorization theory were reported and related open questions were raised for further study. This book provides a timely introduction to some of the topics that are currently pursued by many complex analysts. For instance, the fix-points of itrates of functions is closely related to the fractal mathematics, which has just been realized to be useful in many branches of engineering and physics as well as in computer graphics.

Book Algebraic Curves and Riemann Surfaces

Download or read book Algebraic Curves and Riemann Surfaces written by Rick Miranda and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1995 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Miranda takes the approach that algebraic curves are best encountered for the first time over the complex numbers, where the reader's classical intuition about surfaces, integration, and other concepts can be brought into play. Therefore, many examples of algebraic curves are presented in the first chapters. In this way, the book begins as a primer on Riemann surfaces, with complex charts and meromorphic functions taking centre stage. But the main examples come fromprojective curves, and slowly but surely the text moves toward the algebraic category. Proofs of the Riemann-Roch and Serre Dualtiy Theorems are presented in an algebraic manner, via an adaptation of the adelic proof, expressed completely in terms of solving a Mittag-Leffler problem. Sheaves andcohomology are introduced as a unifying device in the later chapters, so that their utility and naturalness are immediately obvious. Requiring a background of one term of complex variable theory and a year of abstract algebra, this is an excellent graduate textbook for a second-term course in complex variables or a year-long course in algebraic geometry.

Book Meromorphic Functions and Projective Curves

Download or read book Meromorphic Functions and Projective Curves written by Kichoon Yang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an exposition of the theory of meromorphic functions and linear series on a compact Riemann surface. Thus the main subject matter consists of holomorphic maps from a compact Riemann surface to complex projective space. Our emphasis is on families of meromorphic functions and holomorphic curves. Our approach is more geometric than algebraic along the lines of [Griffiths-Harrisl]. AIso, we have relied on the books [Namba] and [Arbarello-Cornalba-Griffiths-Harris] to agreat exten- nearly every result in Chapters 1 through 4 can be found in the union of these two books. Our primary motivation was to understand the totality of meromorphic functions on an algebraic curve. Though this is a classical subject and much is known about meromorphic functions, we felt that an accessible exposition was lacking in the current literature. Thus our book can be thought of as a modest effort to expose parts of the known theory of meromorphic functions and holomorphic curves with a geometric bent. We have tried to make the book self-contained and concise which meant that several major proofs not essential to further development of the theory had to be omitted. The book is targeted at the non-expert who wishes to leam enough about meromorphic functions and holomorphic curves so that helshe will be able to apply the results in hislher own research. For example, a differential geometer working in minimal surface theory may want to tind out more about the distribution pattern of poles and zeros of a meromorphic function.
