Book Analysis and Evaluation of Success Factors and Synergistic Effects in M A Transactions in the Technology Media and Telecommunication Industry

This book was released on 2017-08-30 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1, , language: English, abstract: Mergers and acquisitions are one of the most used opportunities to combine businesses and achieve growth inorganically, despite a high failure rate. The main motive during transactions is the realization of synergies. To achieve those synergies, the mechanisms of those effects need to be evoked by certain success factors during the post-merger integration. A post-merger integration that is executed incorrectly is one of the main reasons why transactions go fail and synergies are not achieved. This thesis will examine synergies and success factors for the post-merger integration of mergers and acquisitions in the technology, media and telecommunication industry, focusing on the acquisition of Time Warner Inc. by AT&T Inc. The technology, media and telecommunication industry is currently flourishing, which is evidenced by an increasing number of transactions. Nevertheless, wireless and mobile giants like AT&T are under huge pressure in their traditional barriers of business and therefore depend on a new strategy to diversify outside their traditional barriers of business. For this purpose, AT&T aims at generating further growth in the video and entertainment market through the acquisition of Time Warner. AT&T would not only increase their growth but they would also build up a second foothold since their traditional business is stagnating. AT&T will become the leader in converging technology, media and telecommunication.

Book excerpt: Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich BWL - Unternehmensführung, Management, Organisation, Note: 1,3, Fachhochschule Oldenburg/Ostfriesland/Wilhelmshaven; Standort Emden, Veranstaltung: Crisis Management in International Mergers and acquisitions!, 10 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Introduction The telecommunication industry is one of the fastest moving industries, today. Nearly everyday we hear a new story about another mega merger of another insolvent company. Therefore it may be worthwhile to study this industry. But before talking about Mergers and acquisitions in the telecommunication industry I will first of all give a definition of what telecommunication is. According to Wikipedia, Telecommunication is the extension of communication over a distance.[.....] hence the term 'telecommunication' covers all forms of distance and/or conversion of the original communications, including radio, telegraphy, television, telephony, data communication and computer networking. When talking about telecommunication we can distinguish between carriers, service providers and suppliers. Carriers Carriers are companies that offer the cables and wires to enable communication over a distance. A German carrier for example is the Deutsche Telekom because they own a network for communicating. These carriers usually offer communication services too. Service providers As the name indicates, service providers offer services. They do not own the network but they can use the network of another carrier and have to pay some kind of rent for it. Suppliers Suppliers are companies that sell communication hardware (e.g. mobile phones). They do not own networks or offer any communication services. One of the biggest telecommunication suppliers is the Finnish company Nokia. As the telecommunication industry is very complex I will only focus on carriers and service providers.

Book Mergers and Acquisitions in the U S Telecommunications Industry An Empirical Analysis of Diversification Strategies Influencing Factors and Their Performance Implications

This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The telecommunications industry is among the most dynamic industries in terms of mergers and acquisitions activity. Yet, only few studies have been concerned with the particular challenges and dynamics telecommunications firms face when engaging in takeover activity. This thesis addresses this gap and contributes to existing re- search by investigating influencing factors and their performance implications for mergers and acquisitions in the U.S. telecommunications industry. The analysis is conducted using a five-day event study methodology based on abnormal returns in combination with ordinary least squares and weighted least squares regressions. The evidence obtained suggests that on average, related acquisitions are expected to out- perform unrelated acquisitions with an underlying U-shaped pattern, and acquirer experience and acquisition timing also exhibit a curvilinear linkage to market expectations about firm performance. The results of this thesis emphasize the importance for managers to consider the particular setting of their acquisitions along with the need to clearly communicate how an acquisition fits into an overall corporate strategy, and how it is to be evaluated with respect to the competitive positioning of the firm.

Book Stock Market Reaction to Different Patterns of Mergers and Acquisitions in the Telecommunications Industry

Download or read book Stock Market Reaction to Different Patterns of Mergers and Acquisitions in the Telecommunications Industry written by Samer Moussa Soubra and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this project, we try to find a relationship between the different types of merger and acquisition deals in the telecommunications industry and the market reaction to these deals. We notably search for a difference in the reaction to horizontal and vertical integration attempts by telecommunications companies. We also look at different factors that affect this market reaction and we test for the presence of an early mover advantage for companies that venture into mergers and acquisitions at the beginning of the industry's consolidation wave.--Our analysis for the short term and long term abnormal returns do not show a significant difference between the market reaction to vertical and horizontal deals. However, we find that other factors like the payment method, nature of the deal whether cross border or domestic and the nationality of the acquirer and target affect the market reaction to the deal announcement. Deals where the payment is made in cash and early movers benefit from a clear advantage while cross border deals tend to induce a more negative reaction. There is also a case of home bias where vertical deals undertaken by US acquirers in their home market generate a positive market reaction while they generate a negative reaction when the deal is cross border.
