This book was released on 2012-02-10 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2018-03-15 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the raising of capital imposed by regulatory and supervisory constraints for the soundness and survival of banks in Europe, highlighting critical issues. Accordingly, the text examines the improvement of risk management and efficiency operated by individual banks as the main driver for reinforcing bank resilience and survival. The investigation is carried out essentially through study of risk management, efficiency, capital constraints, bank regulation and supervision in Europe, monetary policy and economic growth in Europe, capital raising in European banks, bank regulation and supervision in the USA, raising of capital or improvement of risk management and efficiency as the final issue. Book Legitimacy and Effectiveness in Global Economic Governance

Download or read book Legitimacy and Effectiveness in Global Economic Governance written by Biagio Bossone and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-07-03 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coping with the challenges of global economic governance is a topical issue of the current international agenda, and the object of a vivid debate among scholars and policy-makers. The international financial and economic crisis that erupted in 2007 reveals the fallibility of the neoliberal paradigm that has dominated the world economic landscape for the last quarter of a century; regulatory and supervisory institutions have disclosed their weaknesses, and markets have shown their limits in dealing with the rational allocation of risks, and their lack of resilience to shocks. This book offers a comprehensive view of this matter, examining the dialectic and fluid relations between State sovereignty, supranational rules and the role of markets. The opportunity to deal with economic and regulatory challenges through the lens of legitimacy and effectiveness is the fil rouge of the co-authors’ original contributions and the inner-sense of the book. This critical perspective results particularly in investigating gaps and ambiguities of the institutional framework currently underpinning the major international economic organisations (IMF, WTO, G20, EMU), in re-discussing the State’s regulatory role in coping with the challenges of the global economy, and in studying the contradictory interactions between financial paradigms and sustainability with regards to economic development policies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nelson Fausto The Greek myth of Prometheus with its picture of a vulture feasting on its chained victimhas traditionallyprovided a visualimageofliverregeneration. Itis apowerful and frightening representationbut ifone were to substitute the vulture by a surgeon and Prometheus by a patient laying on a properly prepared operating table, the outcomeoftheprocedurewould not differ significantlyfrom that describedbyGreek poets. Yet few of us who work in the field have stopped long enough to ask where this myth originated. Did the poet observe a case of liver regeneration in a human being? Was it brilliant intuition or perhaps, literally, just a 'gut feeling' of a poet looking for good rhymes that led to the prediction that livers grow when part of the tissueisremoved? Thisbookdoesnotattemptto solve these historical issues. Itdoes, instead, cover in detail some of the major modem themes of research on liver regen eration, injury and repair. As indicated in Dr. N. Bucher's chapter, the modem phase ofexperimental studies on liver regeneration started in 1931 with the publication by Higgins and Anderson of a method to perform a two-thirds resection of the liver of a rat. The technique described has 3 remarkable features: 1) it is highly reproducible, resulting in the removal of 68% of the liver, 2) it has minimal if any mortality, and 3) it consists only of blood vessel ligation and does not involve cutting through or wounding hepatic tissue.

Book Italian Banking and Financial Law Regulating Activities

Download or read book Italian Banking and Financial Law Regulating Activities written by D. Siclari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-12 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Italian banks and financial intermediaries are subject to extensive regulation which has evolved throughout the country's history. There has also been much change to the country's financial regulation in recent years in response to the globalization of markets and intermediaries. The Italian administrative and regulatory system is often perceived as a major obstacle to economic productivity, and some causes of this ineffectiveness are deeply rooted and date back to the Italian unification and juridical culture. This book provides an overview of the Italian regulation of banking and financial activities, and tracks the evolution of its 'economic Constitution' and market trends. It explores a range of topics within Italian regulation, including the regulation of banking activities, investment services and collective portfolio management. It examines in detail the relationship between intermediaries and customers, public offerings of financial instruments and products, public takeover bids, listed companies, insurance and reinsurance business. Among other current topics the authors discuss the link between investor protection and confidence in the financial markets; and assess the financial markets as a source of financing for companies.

Book The Integration of European Financial Markets

Download or read book The Integration of European Financial Markets written by Noah Vardi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-12-14 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last decade has seen the increasing integration of European financial markets due to a number of factors including the creation of a common regulatory framework, the liberalisation of international capital movements, financial deregulation, advances in technology and the introduction of the Euro. However, the process of integration has proceeded largely in the absence of any comprehensive legal regulation, and has rather been constructed on the basis of sectorial provisions dictated by the needs of cross-border transactions. This has meant that many legal barriers still remain as obstacles to complete integration. This book considers the discipline of monetary obligations within the wider context of financial markets. The book provides a comparative and transnational examination of the legal rules which form the basis of transactions on financial markets. Analysing the integration of the markets from a legal point of view provides an opportunity to highlight the role of globalisation as the key element favouring the circulation of rules, models, and especially the development of new regulatory sources. The book examines market transactions and the institutes at the root of these transactions, including the type of legislative sources in force and the subjects acting as legislators. The first part of the book concentrates on the micro-discipline of money, debts, payments and financial instruments. The second part goes on to analyse the macro-context of integration of the markets, looking at the persistence of legal barriers and options for their removal, as well as the development of new legal sources as a consequence of the transfer of monetary and political sovereignty. Finally, the book draws links between the two parts and assesses the consequences of the changes at the macro-level of regulation on the micro-level of legal discipline of monetary obligations, particularly focusing on the emergence and growing importance of soft law.

Download or read book Politics and Finance in the European Union written by Francesco Capriglione and published by CEDAM. This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent financial and sovereign debt crisis, while turning the spotlight into the degenerating effects of modern-day capitalism, has engendered a series of hard-to-control events that are severely testing the stability of the European institutions. The adjustments, to date, have proved unable to adequately tackle the financial turmoil that is undermining the construction of the EU. Hence the need to identify the reasons behind this situation, which is accompanied by the failure to achieve an osmosis between the member countries of the Union. The objective to be pursued is clarifying the uncertainties and contradictions within Europe, for the purpose of addressing what many see as a “systemic crisis”.

This is proven by the onset of severe world recession in the early 1980s and the inability to invert the negative phase of the business cycle under way in the industrialized countries in the early 1990s. Download or read book Economic Multisectoral Modelling Between Past and Future written by Rossella Bardazzi and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a tribute to the work of Maurizio Grassini, econometrician and model builder. The selection of his works in the first part of the volume is mainly devoted to research issues of multisectoral modelling. In fact, M. Grassini has dedicated a large part of his professional life to building and developing the INTIMO model for the Italian economy within the INFORUM research project. The book does not aim to be a celebration of the past but takes a look at the future of the multisectoral modelling which M. Grassini has contributed so much to. In the second part of the book, colleagues and friends who have encountered M. Grassini in the professional sphere on matters of quantitative economic analysis or still working with him on interindustry models have given their contribution to look at the future prospects of a research field firmly based on the experience of what has been done so far.
