Book Exploring Dynamic Mentoring Models in India

Download or read book Exploring Dynamic Mentoring Models in India written by Payal Kumar and published by Palgrave MacMillan. This book was released on 2019-08-28 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Although mentoring is a universal relationship, we know little about cultural variations in its processes and outcomes. Addressing this gap, this volume offers important and needed insights on mentoring in India and will be a key resource for scholars and practitioners.' --Belle Rose Ragins, Professor, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA and Editor of Academy of Management Review This edited collection explores the variations of mentoring in India in comparison to western models, providing rich contextual interpretation and paving the way for a greater understanding of mentoring as a phenomenon. With India having the world's largest youth population, its longstanding mentoring tradition is increasingly being replaced by emerging mentoring models in which younger generations are constantly exposed to both Indian and western influences. Paying particular attention to formal and informal mentoring models, the contributions cover the corporate sector, higher education, the developmental sector and venture capitalist-enabled entrepreneurial mentoring. Offering a uniquely non-western perspective, this innovative study also showcases both mentor and protégé perceptions of mentoring, and will be of great appeal to both practitioners and scholars of leadership.

Book Boy Wives and Female Husbands

Download or read book Boy Wives and Female Husbands written by Stephen O. Murray and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the many myths created about Africa, the claim that homosexuality and gender diversity are absent or incidental is one of the oldest and most enduring. Historians, anthropologists, and many contemporary Africans alike have denied or overlooked African same-sex patterns or claimed that such patterns were introduced by Europeans or Arabs. In fact, same-sex love and nonbinary genders were and are widespread in Africa. Boy-Wives and Female Husbands documents the presence of this diversity in some fifty societies in every region of the continent south of the Sahara. Essays by scholars from a variety of disciplines explore institutionalized marriages between women, same-sex relations between men and boys in colonial work settings, mixed gender roles in east and west Africa, and the emergence of LGBTQ activism in South Africa, which became the first nation in the world to constitutionally ban discrimination based on sexual orientation. Also included are oral histories, folklore, and translations of early ethnographic reports by German and French observers. Boy-Wives and Female Husbands was the first serious study of same-sex sexuality and gender diversity in Africa, and this edition includes a new foreword by Marc Epprecht that underscores the significance of the book for a new generation of African scholars, as well as reflections on the book's genesis by the late Stephen O. Murray. This book is freely available in an open access edition thanks to the generous support of the Murray Hong Family Trust. • Publisher : Boynton/Cook
  • Release : 1999
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 164 pages

Download or read book Beyond Note Cards written by Bruce P. Ballenger and published by Boynton/Cook. This book was released on 1999 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any teacher driven to despair by a stack of student research papers will find welcome inspiration in Beyond Note Cards. Since the research paper first became a fixture in the composition classroom, no other assignment has caused as much dread in students. By putting it in historical context, Ballenger offers new insight into the problems and promise of the research paper - and practical advice on how to revive it. Beyond Note Cards examines the best of the existing scholarship to offer a fresh, theoretically sound approach to teaching the research paper. Drawing on the recent movement to encourage inquiry-based learning, Ballenger argues that the spirit of inquiry should be at the heart of research paper instruction - not the usual preoccupation with teaching the paper's formal qualities. While Ballenger deals with theory, his book is never dry. Through case studies of his students and often revealing autobiographical anecdotes, the author weaves a fascinating story about the evolution of the research paper historically and in his own classroom. The book also contains many practical features, including: classroom-tested exercises and assignments to help students become better researchers and research writers original survey information that instructors can use to discuss the assignment with their own students a special section on how to teach the double-entry journal as part of a research assignment a helpful appendix that explores Internet research and new approaches to note taking. Beyond Note Cards is an essential resource for instructors who are anxious to build connections between personal writing assignments and academic writing by highlighting the "habits of mind" that are present in both. In addition, teachers who already use Ballenger's popular student handbook, The Curious Researcher (Allyn & Bacon), will discover new ways to supplement it.

Thomas Szasz's classic book revolutionized thinking about the nature of the psychiatric profession and the moral implications of its practices.
