Book Unzipped

Download or read book Unzipped written by Suzi Quatro and published by Hodder & Stoughton. This book was released on 2008-07-24 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You've seen Suzi Q, the feature documentary about legendary 70s rocker Suzi Quatro. Now read Unzipped, the story of how Little Susie from Detroit grew up to become an international superstar musician - as told by the glam rock sensation herself. The glam rock icon behind such hits as 'Can the Can', 'Devil Gate Drive' and 'Your Mamma Won't Like Me' has sold over 50 million records worldwide and has worked, partied and rocked out with legendary figures such as Noddy Holder, Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop. Suzi Quatro's transformation from girl to glam rocker was fuelled by huge talent, determination, hard work and a fabulous sense of humour, but it wasn't easy. In Unzipped, Quatro tells her story of life behind the scenes and in the thick of it as one of the first major break-out female rock bassists. Later, she went on to Hollywood to join the cast of Happy Days, juggling her acting and music career with a turbulent personal life and constant touring around the world. Through it all, she never lost her passion to perform or her sense of adventure. Suzi Quatro remembers it all in this brilliantly personal and funny book, a thrilling account of a life lived going hell for leather.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Through the 21st Century Looking Glass" - USA Today by Grady Harp "Mel Mathews is a sensitive observer of the human condition, with an emphasis on the Male Human Condition of our time. He has created a character in Malcolm Clay that is a baby boomer Holden Caulfield, a variation on John Updike's Rabbit Angstrom, and he manages to take us by the hand and lead us through the bumpy terrain of current interpersonal relationships as well as anyone writing today."We first met Malcolm Clay in Mathew's first novel Chronicles of a Wandering Soul: Book 1- 'LeRoi' as a middle aged man trapped in a successful but boring occupation who becomes stranded in a dusty little truck stop where he is forced to slow his pace to adjust to the fertile characters he created there. Well, now Malcolm is living in Carmel, California, having been divorced, forgoing his childhood entrapping religious heritage, traipsing through many brief and physically oriented affairs while deciding to change his life as an alcoholic tractor salesman to that of a reformed AA writer ('..he didn't think anyone should be called an addict, alcoholic, codependent, or any other of the pathologized clinical diagnosis that propelled a person into another lie'). His existence is populated in this gorgeous coastline area of California by all manner of women and men whose connection to life is through tenuous strings tied to fairly shallow buoys. Most of the novel is conversational, with Malcolm discovering the intrinsic personality defects of characters ranging from his landlady Mrs. Shams to men on the make to physical therapist Jenny who manages to keep a physical distance between the lusty but controlled Malcolm and her fragile, purging diet, Zen-like self. This is a journey so well written that the novel calls for pause to enjoy the sheer ebullience of the verbiage. Mel Mathews is a fine writer, finding his way through life in these times. He is a reliable companion on the trek we all are taking. And now on to the next volume in the series, Chronicles of a Wandering Soul: Book 3 - 'SamSara', addictively!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It's a slippery slide from hormones to homicide!" Meet Debbi Dickerson: mousy, codependent housewife who, at age forty-seven, feels her life is over. Her dreams of being an artist have long been discarded in the wake of her failing marriage, and her kids think she’s invisible. She’s stuck on the hamster wheel, going nowhere. That is, until menopause blindsides her. Derailed by one symptom after another, Debbi struggles to find a way to quell the hot flashes, night sweats, sudden panic attacks, and unbridled rage. The gals in her scrapbooking club give her advice on how to survive menopause, but nothing seems to help ... except killing. Meet Jerry Dickerson, Debbi’s husband: arrogant, insensitive, all-around jerk, whose greatest dream as a homicide detective is to catch a serial killer and be admired, for once. So when a series of strange deaths break out in Tacoma, Washington, Jerry is elated, but the pressure is on to catch the killer. Jerry’s boss, Sergeant Myra Manners, is also going through menopause and makes his life hell. And then there’s his teenage daughter dishing out hormones like Girl Scout cookies. Seriously, what’s a misogynist to do? Have an affair with some bubblehead, of course. As the bodies pile up, more than dishes are going to fly. Yet, there is light at the end of the tunnel of menopause and Debbi can see it. But is it a bright future or the headlights of an incoming train with Jerry's name on it? Don't miss this hilarious dark comedy caper! Your sides will hurt from laughing. The Menopause Murders, through poignant comedy, explores deep themes of sexism, ageism, and self-image issues that millions of women (and men!)—particularly those of the baby boomer generation—are facing daily and struggling with, in order to find sense, meaning, and sanity amid the insanity that is our current political and cultural state. Praise for this dark comedy women's fiction! "The Menopause Murders is a fabulous book that is not only well written but the characters will make you identify and scream with laughter. As an age activist, I found the stories are right on about ageism and all the pressing issues women today face. Not one to miss!" —Barbara Rose Brooker, author, The Viagra Diaries, and founder of the Age Equality Movement "If you like your comedy dark and dotty, check out THE MENOPAUSE MURDERS by Mary Maloney and Ed Markel. Times are changing for Debbi Dickerson, dutiful housewife, loving mother, and … serial killer? Turn down the thermostat before you turn the first page, because THE MENOPAUSE MURDERS is a hot (flash) romp through the world of female friendships, mendacious men, and hormonal horrors." —Melissa DeCarlo, author of The Art of Crash Landing "This book was everything!! Dark comedy galore. I know that it sounds odd. But I was entranced by this book. I couldn't put it down it was so good." —Lori C. "Loved this book, it was very descriptive of menopause, a quiet woman who literally loses the plot with a cheating husband, who just happens to be the detective on the job, loved it. Book America Unzipped

Download or read book America Unzipped written by Brian Alexander and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2008 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the America we don't usually talk about. As journalist Alexander uncovers, fringe experimentation has gone suburban--soccer moms, your accountant, even your own parents could be turning kinky. Stunned by the uninhibited questions from ordinary people on his msnbc.com column, "Sexploration," Alexander was driven to understand Americans' desire to get down and dirty--especially in an era where conservative family values dominate. To find out what people are really doing, he set out on a sexual safari. Whether mixing it up at a convention of fetishists, struggling into his own pair of PVC pants for a wild night at a sex club, being tutored on sex toys by a nineteen-year-old supervisor while working in an adult store, or learning the surprising ways of Biblical sex from an evangelical preacher, Alexander uses humor and insight to reveal a sexual world that is quickly redefining the phrase "polite society."--From publisher description.

Download or read book After Camus written by Jay Neugeboren and published by Madville Publishing. This book was released on 2024-02-20 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A troubled marriage—and love story—set against the background of the AIDS pandemic, and the American wars in Vietnam and Iraq lie at the heart of After Camus. Saul Davidoff and Tolle Riordan, who meet during a protest against the Vietnam War, marry, live through the Plague Years of the AIDS epidemic, raise a family … and burn out. Camus is a hero to both of them: Tolle, a young dancer and choreographer, has a liaison with him in Paris shortly before his death; Saul, inspired by Camus’s The Plague, becomes an infectious disease (and AIDS) doctor … and Camus becomes a ghostly presence central to our story. Hoping to repair their marriage, Tolle and Saul return to a village in the South of France where they lived when they were first in love, and where Camus lived when recovering from a siege of tuberculosis. The novel draws a vivid portrait of a marriage that spans a series of historical events: from the Vietnam war through the AIDs epidemic and Gulf War, to the Iraq War and the advent of the right wing Le Pen movement in France. After Camus is both a fictional meditation on recent history and a compelling tale of how various forms of love and friendship do and do not survive in times of social and political upheaval. In this novel of enchantments, internationally acclaimed author Jay Neugeboren is at the peak of his powers as a master storyteller.

Book Everything You Need to Know About the Menopause but were too afraid to ask

Download or read book Everything You Need to Know About the Menopause but were too afraid to ask written by Kate Muir and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-01-20 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An eye-opening, no-holds-barred guide to the perimenopause and menopause written by campaigner, journalist and documentary-maker Kate Muir. Everything You Need to Know About the Menopause (and were too afraid to ask) is the thinking woman’s guide to the menopause, bringing you answers to all those questions that have been hidden behind a veneer of misplaced shame, bad science and centuries of patriarchy. · What’s the perimenopause and when will it strike? (It’s sooner than you think) · What’s happening to my body – and my mind? · Why can’t I stop thinking about sex in perimenopause? · How do I get my sex drive back after menopause? · How do I look after my body and brain when my hormones disappear? Muir draws on interviews with the leading medical experts in the field, interlaced with her own tumultuous journey through the menopause and the personal stories of women from all walks of life, sharing their varied experiences and hard-earned wisdom. Muir also questions why the current medical establishment is getting the menopause so wrong, as she debunks the myths that surround hormone replacement therapy and exposes the sloppy science and hysterical headlines that have had a negative impact on women’s health for the last twenty years. It’s essential that we understand the biology of our own bodies during this critical period that will define the latter half of our lives. With the help of a panel of doctors, scientists and health experts, Muir unpacks the science behind hormones and ageing, and takes a close look at the different options available for treating both body and mind during the profound changes that take us into midlife and beyond. What she discovers is that both symptoms and treatment are far more extensive and diverse than we might expect. The menopause is the whole package, and the treatment needs to be too, with impacts as wide ranging as preventing Alzheimer’s, boosting sex drive and protecting mental health. This ground-breaking guide is a social, cultural and scientific exploration into a criminally overlooked and under-discussed phenomenon that will affect one billion of us by 2025. And it is a manifesto for change, calling for equality in healthcare and an entirely new approach to women’s health.
