Download or read book Men of Mark in Maryland Vol 2 written by Lynn R. Meekins and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Men of Mark in Maryland, Vol. 2: Johnson's Makers of America Series Biographies of Leading Men of the State; With an Introductory Chapter on the Growth of Maryland The biography of the past, rich in many ways, always entertaining and instructive as it is, was yet one-sided, because it dealt too much with the soldier, the sailor, the statesman, and too little with the men who supported these. Arkwright or Stevenson were worth more to Great Britain than Marlborough or Bolingbroke. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Men of Mark in Maryland Vol 1

Download or read book Men of Mark in Maryland Vol 1 written by Bernard C. Steiner and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Men of Mark in Maryland, Vol. 1: Biographies of Leading Men in the State; With an Introductory Chapter on Maryland, Proprietary Province and State This province was situated on the Atlantic seacoast, and the State that has grown from it comprises some square miles, of which about a fourth is covered by the Chesapeake Bay and its estuaries. The territory consists of a most varied country in its geologic history, and in its climate. From the flat coastal plain of the lower Eastern Shore to the lofty mountains of the extreme west of the State, is found a great variety of soil and products. The coastal plain rises into the Piedmont region and the western counties are crossed by the parallel ranges of the Appalachian system. The waters of the Bay teem with oysters, crabs and fish, and over these waters fly large flocks of wild fowl. The same waters furnish great highways of commerce for all the eastern part of the State. Toward the west the land rises; good water power is found in the streams, and the mountains abound in veins of coal and iron. The climate is neither so severe as in the New England States, nor so enervating as in the far south. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Men of Mark in Maryland, Vol. 3: Johnson's Makers of America Series Biographies of Leading Men of the State The most casual investigation will show that these biographic sketches - brief as they of necessity are - cover more ground than any biographic work ever before put in the same compass, and this will make them in succeeding generations of immense value to future historians.
