Book excerpt: YESTERDAY'S MOMENTS...TODAY'S MEMORIES is the third in David Turner's nostalgic trilogy depicting rural and small-town life in Canada during the last century. "From as far back as I could recall," Turner says, "I'd been listening to the stories passed down through generations of my family. As the years went by, an unrelenting passion dictated I record these recollections and the lives of those who lived here. To flourish both intellectually and emotionally, we need to know who we are and where we've been. "One of the most enjoyable aspects of writing is the ability to convey those thoughts to others. Whenever a story is repeated, it rekindles the attribute of something otherwise forgotten. Friends and loved ones pass on, and with the years, our memories fade-but through their stories, the legacy of those who came before can live forever." The counties of Grey, York, Peel, Simcoe, and Perth have been home to the Turner family for many decades. In 2014, David and his wife Mary retired to Huron County.

Book The Journal of H l ne Berr

Download or read book The Journal of H l ne Berr written by Hélène Berr and published by Weinstein Books. This book was released on 2009-11-03 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not since The Diary of Anne Frank has there been such a book as this: The joyful but ultimately heartbreaking journal of a young Jewish woman in occupied Paris, now being published for the first time, 63 years after her death in a Nazi concentration camp. On April 7, 1942, Hélène Berr, a 21-year-old Jewish student of English literature at the Sorbonne, took up her pen and started to keep a journal, writing with verve and style about her everyday life in Paris — about her studies, her friends, her growing affection for the “boy with the grey eyes,” about the sun in the dewdrops, and about the effect of the growing restrictions imposed by France’s Nazi occupiers. Berr brought a keen literary sensibility to her writing, a talent that renders the story it relates all the more rich, all the more heartbreaking. The first day Berr has to wear the yellow star on her coat, she writes, “I held my head high and looked people so straight in the eye they turned away. But it’s hard.” More, many more, humiliations were to follow, which she records, now with a view to posterity. She wants the journal to go to her fiancé, who has enrolled with the Free French Forces, as she knows she may not live much longer. She was right. The final entry is dated February 15, 1944, and ends with the chilling words: “Horror! Horror! Horror!” Berr and her family were arrested three weeks later. She went — as was discovered later — on the death march from Auschwitz to Bergen-Belsen, where she died of typhus in April 1945, within a month of Anne Frank and just days before the liberation of the camp. The journal did eventually reach her fiancé, and for over fifty years it was kept private. In 2002, it was donated to the Memorial of the Shoah in Paris. Before it was first published in France in January 2008, translation rights had already been sold for twelve languages.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are all immortal Beingsdeath is an illusion! This world and who we think ourselves to be is only a temporary dream. But our existence within the darkness and ignorance of this lower self-consciousness is of tremendous importance. It is here that we Homo sapiens have the opportunity to transcend our present mind dominated human-animal consciousness. This is the fundamental message that is received during the life-altering occurrence of Self-Realization. We begin the spiritual journey of transformation in order to obtain liberation from the lower self-consciousness by evolving into the Higher Self-consciousness, which is the next stage in mankinds evolution. The effect of transcending the old consciousness poses many problems due to powerful and dangerous alterations to our psyche and biological system. The transforming power of kundalini can burn out the nervous system and unbalance the personality, from which it may never recover. What role does kundalini and Grace play in our Awakening? How do we transcend our animal traits? Can we use sex in order to go beyond sex? How do we adapt to living simultaneously in the two opposing worlds of duality and Oneness? What is consciousness? What and who is the new race that is going to replace the old man? Does time exist? What is the connection we have with our Soul? Does God exist? Who is really in charge?

Book excerpt: This is the extraordinary story of Jenny Cockell, a young woman from Northamptonshire, who has always known that she has lived before. In her previous life her name was Mary. She was an Irishwoman who died 21 years before Jenny was born leaving several very young children without a mother or a stable, happy home. Yesterday's Children describes the trauma and worry of this continual pastlife memory, and Jenny's decision to search for her lost children. The book follows her progress through her dreams and memories, the revelations of hypnotism, her searches through maps, through local groups in Ireland, and her trip to the village where Mary had lived. Finally, she details her painstaking search for the children (now in their sixties and seventies) who had been split up after Mary's death, and the extraordinary reunions that took place. This is a fascinating book. In many ways it is a real life detective story, as we learn about Jenny, about Mary, her difficult life and finally, with great joy and trepidation, discover what happened to her children.

Book There is No Thinker Only Thought

Download or read book There is No Thinker Only Thought written by J Krishnamurti and published by Krishnamurti Foundation America. This book was released on 2022-09-09 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these talks given in New Delhi, Bombay, London, Saanen, Paris and Madras, Krishnamurti begins by defining what he means by the word discussion and what it means to go beyond thought. "I think, before we begin, it should be made clear what we mean by discussion. To me it is a process of discovery through exposing oneself to the fact. That is, in discussing I discover myself, the habit of my thought, the way I proceed to think, my reactions, the way I reason, not only intellectually but inwardly. It is really exposing oneself not merely verbally but actually so that the discussion becomes a thing worth while - to discover for ourselves how we think. Because, I feel if we could be serious enough for an hour or a little more and really fathom and delve into ourselves as much as we can, we shall be able to release, not through any action of will, a certain sense of energy which is all the time awake, which is beyond thought." An extensive compendium of Krishnamurti's talks and discussions in the USA, Europe, India, New Zealand, and South Africa from 1933 to 1967—the Collected Works have been carefully authenticated against existing transcripts and tapes. Each volume includes a frontispiece photograph of Krishnamurti , with question and subject indexes at the end. The content of each volume is not limited to the subject of the title, but rather offers a unique view of Krishnamurti's extraordinary teachings in selected years. The Collected Works offers the reader the opportunity to explore the early writings and dialogues in their most complete and authentic form.
