Book excerpt: Memory is compilation of scholarly chapters by authors of global reputation in the arts therapies. This international publication reflects the theme of the 16th International Conference of the European Consortium for Arts Therapies (ECArTE), held in Vilnius, Lithuania. Questions of memory go to the very heart of our making sense of the world. This book brings together wide-ranging chapters, which address the question of memory, designed to stimulate understanding and debate in contemporary arts therapy education, practice and research. Writers from Canada, Estonia, Germany, Iceland, Lebanon, Lithuania, Spain, the UK and the US combine to create a topical publication, incorporating diverse and current thinking in art therapy, dance movement therapy, dramatherapy and music therapy. In this innovative compilation, authors offer different cultural perspectives on the conception of memory which informs epistemology across the field of arts therapy. This book will be of interest and relevance to those in the arts therapy community and to a broader readership, including students and professionals in the disciplines of psychology, sociology, psychotherapy, the arts, medicine, integrated health and education.

  • ISBN : 9047423097
  • Pages : 866 pages

Book excerpt: This volume contains forty-eight essays, presented by friends, colleagues and students from many countries, in honour of Florentino García Martínez, director of the Groningen Qumran Institute, editor-in-chief of the Journal for the Study of Judaism, and professor in Leuven. The majority of the essays are in the areas of the honoree’s own scholarship and interests, including primarily Qumranica, but also many other fields of Second Temple Judaism, from late biblical texts and Septuagint up to early rabbinic writings. Florentino’s own polyglottism, evident from his bibliography, and his close relations with many scholars from Southern Europe, is reflected in the inclusion of a few French, Spanish and Italian articles in this volume.

Book The Collected Works of J Krishnamurti

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first volume covers talks given in Italy, Norway and India. Krishnamurti begins with the statement "Friends, I should like you to make a living discovery, not a discovery induced by the description of others ... I am not going to try to describe what to me is truth, for that would be an impossible attempt. One cannot describe or give to another the fullness of an experience. Each one must live it for himself."

Book Actualizando La Mediana Edad

Download or read book Actualizando La Mediana Edad written by Guillermo Julio Montero and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Conceptualizing the History of the Present Time

Download or read book Conceptualizing the History of the Present Time written by María Inés Mudrovcic and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2024-05-30 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, I explore four meanings of 'contemporary,' emphasizing its designation as a historical field. I argue that disagreements about when the presento or the contemporary era begins stem from historians assuming a linear, chronological, and absolute conception of time. Following scholars like L. Descombes, L. Hölscher, B. Latour, D. J. Wilcox and S. Tanaka, I propose conceiving relational historical time without chronology, emphasizing the original sense of “sharing the same time” that 'contemporary' acquired for the first time. This perspective mitigates issues concerning the 'beginnings' or 'meaning' of the present. Emphasizing relationships within a relational time framework aids in overcoming ontological challenges like 'so many presents' or 'distance in time,' along with the corresponding epistemological issue of 'objectivity.' This exploration aims to reevaluate and enrich our understanding of the multifaceted concept of the 'present' in the context of history.

Book The Border of Lights Reader

Download or read book The Border of Lights Reader written by Megan Jeanette Myers and published by Amherst College Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Border of Lights, a volunteer collective, returns each October to Dominican-Haitian border towns to bear witness to the 1937 Haitian Massacre ordered by Dominican dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. This crime against humanity has never been acknowledged by the Dominican government and no memorial exists for its victims. A multimodal, multi-vocal space for activists, artists, scholars, and others connected to the BOL movement, The Border of Lights Reader provides an alternative to the dominant narrative that positions Dominicans and Haitians as eternal adversaries and ignores cross-border and collaborative histories. This innovative anthology asks large-scale, universal questions regarding historical memory and revisionism that countries around the world grapple with today. "By bringing together in one volume poetry, visual arts, literary analysis, in-depth interviews and historical analysis this volume will provide its readers with a comprehensive view of the causes and the aftermath of the massacre." --Ramón Antonio Victoriano-Martínez, University of British Columbia Contributions by Julia Alvarez, Amanda Alcántara, DeAndra Beard, Nancy Betances, Jésula Blanc, Matías Bosch Carcuro, Cynthia Carrión, Raj Chetty, Catherine DeLaura, Magaly Colimon, Juan Colón, Robin Maria DeLugan, Lauren Derby, Rosa Iris Diendomi Álvarez, Polibio Díaz, Rana Dotson, Rita Dove, Rhina P.
