Book Islamising Indonesia

Download or read book Islamising Indonesia written by Yon Machmudi and published by ANU E Press. This book was released on 2008-11-01 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) is the most interesting phenomenon in contemporary Indonesian politics. Not only is it growing rapidly in membership and electoral support, it is also bringing a new and markedly different approach to Islamic politics, one which has no precedent in Indonesian history. Understanding PKS and analysing its political behaviour presents challenges to scholars and observers. This is partly due to the fact that the party represents a new trend within Indonesian Islam which has few parallels with preceding movements. Yon Machmudi has rendered us a valuable service. In this book, he provides a thoughtful and authoritative context for viewing PKS. He critiques the existing categorisations for Indonesian Islam and points to their inadequacy when describing the PKS and the campus-based Tarbiyah movement from which it sprang. He reworks the santri typology, dividing it into convergent, radical and global substreams. This offers new possibilities for explaining the PKS phenomenon and assists in differentiating between various types of Islamic revivalism in contemporary Indonesia. It also allows a more understanding of the accommodatory stance which PKS has towards the state and other political forces. Yon's text provides a good overview of the development of PKS from its Tarbiyah movement origins to its impressive success at the 2004 general elections. It considers the party's attitude towards the issues of sharia implementation and community welfare and closes by examining the future challenges facing PKS. It is a well written and authoritative account from a scholar who has done wideranging research on the party.

Book Innovating IT

Download or read book Innovating IT written by Lior Arussy and published by Wiley Publishing. This book was released on 2004-12 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IT challenge: to reinvent itself IT operations stand at a critical juncture. IT organizations must define their identity, their role, and the contribution they will make to the accelerating pace of technology commoditization. In this visionary volume, Lior Arussy offers a revolutionary thesis— IT must become a manager responsible for a product, and that product is information. To remain a key player, IT must transform itself from a producer of information to a manager of information utilization. It must drive innovation from a user-centric perspective, abandoning the process-centered focus of the past. It must nurture the imagination of the user and the process of innovation throughout the organization. Only in this way can IT connect to the core of the business, discarding its obsolete role as a cost center to become a revenue and growth driver. Mr. Arussy defines a vision for new leadership—a CI2O, Chief Information to Innovation Officer. His user-centric agenda creates a thought-provoking, challenging, and invigorating view of IT tomorrow, motivated by the restless awareness that dawn has already broken.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book should make educators stop and consider exactly what they mean when they discuss curriculum integration." —Julie Prescott, Assessment Coordinator Vallivue High School, Caldwell, ID "The biggest strength of Fogarty′s work is its clear, concise organization centered on the guiding questions of each chapter." —John C. Baker, Eighth-Grade Social Studies Teacher Salem Middle School, Apex, NC Strategies for moving students towards more holistic and authentic types of learning! For both students and teachers, the mission is essential: to connect ideas, discern themes, and thread skills of various content areas into a cohesive whole. Yet, the question remains: "What does integrating the curricula really mean?" The answers are provided in this updated resource that helps teachers create brain-compatible, learner-centered classrooms and better prepare students for lifelong learning. Based on a four-pronged rationale for using an integrated curriculum—including findings from brain-based research, parental concerns, practitioner challenges, and student perspectives—Robin Fogarty offers ten models that allow teams of teachers to work together to group elements from various content areas into a coherent curriculum that effectively meets standards. The discussion of each model includes: A description of the model How the model can be applied in the classroom Benefits and challenges of the model for teaching and learning Guidelines for when and how to implement the model in the classroom A wealth of reproducibles to aid implementation How to Integrate the Curricula offers the support educators need to integrate concepts, skills, and attitudes and immerse students in content through self-selected, personally relevant learning experiences.

Book Adapt and Plan for the New Abnormal of the COVID 19 Coronavirus Pandemic

Download or read book Adapt and Plan for the New Abnormal of the COVID 19 Coronavirus Pandemic written by Gleb Tsipursky and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-08 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: COVID-19 has demonstrated clearly that businesses, nonprofits, individuals, and governments are terrible at dealing effectively with large-scale disasters that take the form of slow-moving train-wrecks. Using cutting-edge research in cognitive neuroscience and behavioral economics on dangerous judgement errors (cognitive biases), this book first explains why we respond so poorly to slow-moving, high-impact, and long-term crises. Next, the book shares research-based strategies for how organizations and individuals can adapt effectively to the new abnormal of the COVID-19 pandemic and similar disasters. Finally, it shows how to develop an effective strategic plan and make the best major decisions in the context of the uncertainty and ambiguity brought about by COVID-19 and other slow-moving large-scale catastrophes. Gleb Tsipursky combines research-based strategies with real-life stories from his business and nonprofit clients as they adapt to the pandemic. The "Resilience Series" is the result of an intensive, collaborative effort of our authors in response to the 2020 coronavirus epidemic. Each volume offers expert advice for developing the practical, emotional and spiritual skills that you can master to become more resilient in a time of crisis.
