Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abigail was an Arabian horse breeder known for being able to choose future champions for her clients. People from all over the world sought her out. She had business success, influence, and many friends. But were they her real friends, or did were they get close to her for sinister reasons? The deeper she went into the world of horse shows, the more she learned about lust for fame and glory and the pursuit of it at any cost. She was a woman who never remained silent in the face of injustice and wrongdoing, but she soon learned that there was a price to pay for her virtue. Out of nowhere, she met her Middle Eastern paramour. Abigail was a Christian; Abdul was a Muslim. He was a man that shared her love for horses and saw through the evil intentions of those that would use her. He protected her and stood with her against the twisted intentions of those around her. She grew to trust him more than life itself. Inspired by true events, The Journey of the Christian Woman and the Muslim Man is an emotionally wrenching story of love and trust lost in savage betrayal.

Book Insurgent Crossfire

Download or read book Insurgent Crossfire written by Subir Bhaumik and published by Lancer Publishers. This book was released on 1996 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the British withdrew from the subcontinent, nations in the region have been at war with each other. But instead of fighting long-drawnout wars like that between Iran and Iraq, nations of South Asia have sponsored guerrilla armies and armed, trained and equipped them to harass, bleed or embarrass their rivals. The four wars in the region’s post-colonial era were also born out of sponsored guerrilla wars. In 1948 and 1965, Pakistan first tried to have its way in Kashmir by sponsoring irregulars on a large scale and then followed it up with unsuccessful military campaigns aimed at ensuring the state’s secession from India. In 1962, China attacked India not so much over a disputed border or India’s much publicized Forward Policy but essentially in response to what it felt was a joint Indo-US covert effort in Tibet. In 1971 India rounded off its successful sponsorship of the Bengali guerrilla struggle in erstwhile East Pakistan by a speedy military campaign that resulted in the break up of Pakistan. Insurgent Crossfire examines the origins of sponsored insurgencies and how they have shaped South Asia’s tense diplomatic environment. Having done that, it studies the major sponsored guerrilla campaigns in South Asia and then seeks a detailed case study of the phenomenon by focusing on the far eastern slice of the subcontinent. The author argues that this region, with its multitude of tribes and battling ethnicities, has been the most durable theatre of insurgent crossfire – in which nations like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China (a major actor in South Asian politics) have backed insurgencies against each other.

Book Wikipedia 20

Download or read book Wikipedia 20 written by Joseph Reagle and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wikipedia's first twenty years: how what began as an experiment in collaboration became the world's most popular reference work. We have been looking things up in Wikipedia for twenty years. What began almost by accident—a wiki attached to an nascent online encyclopedia—has become the world's most popular reference work. Regarded at first as the scholarly equivalent of a Big Mac, Wikipedia is now known for its reliable sourcing and as a bastion of (mostly) reasoned interaction. How has Wikipedia, built on a model of radical collaboration, remained true to its original mission of “free access to the sum of all human knowledge” when other tech phenomena have devolved into advertising platforms? In this book, scholars, activists, and volunteers reflect on Wikipedia's first twenty years, revealing connections across disciplines and borders, languages and data, the professional and personal. The contributors consider Wikipedia's history, the richness of the connections that underpin it, and its founding vision. Their essays look at, among other things, the shift from bewilderment to respect in press coverage of Wikipedia; Wikipedia as “the most important laboratory for social scientific and computing research in history”; and the acknowledgment that “free access” includes not just access to the material but freedom to contribute—that the summation of all human knowledge is biased by who documents it.
