Instead he makes the case that Christians learn from other cultures, respect the truth that can be found there, and let Christ and the existing culture do the rest.

Book The Life of Saint Issa

Download or read book The Life of Saint Issa written by Nicholas Notovitch and published by . This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Notovitch's biography of Saint Issa, in which he asserts that Jesus Christ spent many of his missing years traversing India, is presented here. A Crimean Jewish adventurer and explorer of India, Notovitch traveled widely across the East in the late nineteenth century. He claimed to have discovered a biographical document in Hemis Monastery - located in modern-day India - from which he created this book. The bold and fantastical claims about Christ attracted attention from scholars of Christianity and the popular media of the time. Spotting inconsistencies in Notovitch's account, it was only after being confronted with these that he apparently confessed to having fabricated the biography of Jesus Christ. For some years the entire matter was considered a hoax; until the Indian mystic Swami Abhedananda visited the Hemis Monastery where a monk confirmed that Notovitch had stayed some six weeks there, convalescing with a broken leg, whereupon he read the disputed documents concerning Christ.

Book Gandhi Portrait of a Friend

Download or read book Gandhi Portrait of a Friend written by E Stanley Jones Foundation and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "On the day that Mahatma Gandhi was killed, I arrived in Delhi just an hour and a quarter before the tragedy ... the greatest tragedy since the Son of God died on the cross." So begins this compelling account of Gandhi by E. Stanley Jones, the world-renowned missionary evangelist to India during 40 seething years of struggle. Based on an intimate knowledge and understanding, Jones's revealing interpretation was written in gratitude to Gandhi, who, although they often disagreed, showed Jones "more of the spirit of Christ than perhaps any other . . . in East or West." "Martin Luther King, Jr., told me he owed a debt to my father for his book on Mahatma Gandhi. He had read many books on Gandhi, read his writings, but it was that particular book of my father's that had triggered his decision to use the method of ... nonviolence in his civil rights movement for his people." --Eunice Jones Mathews "Highly recommended."--Library Journal "To understand the meaning of this great leader ... read this book of interpretation."--Kirkus "Jones ... possesses a great gift of sympathetically interpreting the East to the West."--[London] Times Literary Supplement

Book The Divine Yes

    Book Details:
  • Author : E Stanley Jones
  • Publisher : Independently Published
  • Release : 2021-12-13
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 150 pages

Download or read book The Divine Yes written by E Stanley Jones and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-12-13 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is organized around a number of questions which call for an affirmative answer. These are authentic queries. They emerge from real life and from the depths of the human search. These are not all of the problems which plague human existence and trouble the human spirit today, but they are among the important ones. As is often said, "Christ is the answer, but what is the question?" He is the affirmative to such inquiries as these arising from inner deeps. Jesus Christ is the Divine Yes! My feeling and hope is that this book will prove of particular help to many kinds of people. Among these are the seriously or chronically ill, the discouraged, those who feel themselves badly used of life, or those whose lives seem to have caved in on them. But others, too, should find divine aid and inspiration here. I refer to those earnest seekers after light and truth, old and young alike, who search for solutions to the profound, age-old questions which always address those who take the gift of life seriously and responsibly. They need not despair, for the Divine Yes has at long last been sounded. - Eunice Jones Mathews
