  • ISBN : 0857737767
  • Pages : 210 pages

Download or read book Home Movies written by Claire Jenkins and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-04-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American family has long been at the centre of the typical Hollywood narrative. But the depiction of the nuclear family within contemporary mainstream US cinema has not yet been closely studied. Home Movies addresses this oversight by assessing recent cinematic representations of the family in terms of cultural politics and representations of gender, sexuality, race and class. Focusing on a diverse range of popular films - from Meet the Parents to The Incredibles - Claire Jenkins analyses the father-daughter relationship within sequels and series; Meryl Streep's embodiment of the mother; the superhero family and extraordinary manifestations of the ordinary family; disaster films which depict the president as father; 'mom-coms' and Hollywood's representations of the non-traditional family. She combines film studies, gender studies and family history to demonstrate the complexities of Hollywood's family values.

Book excerpt: In Book 1, The Hunt, of the Twenty-Seven series fifty-six-year-old treasure hunter Gilbert Morgan discovers an underwater throny plant which restores his body back to that of a twenty-seven-year-old. In Book 2, Discovery, the Morgans have successfully commercialized the plant and now, ten years later are as equally wealthy as their nemisis William S. Bates. The Morgans are surprised when Bates pops back into their lives until they discover his diabolical scheme to ruin mankind. Only the Morgans will be able to stop him. Now in Book 3, William S. Bates, the entire story is retold through the eyes of the antagonist. Find out what drove Bates to be the person he was and what he was thinking throughout his life, adding even more depth to this mind twisting story! I enjoyed reading this book due to its fast paced, interesting story that blended an age-old desire with a modern twist. The book is an easy read with the author conveying not only the story itself, but the characters nuances as well. I recommend this book.

Book 1 - Cade When revenge leads Cade Morgan to hold up a stagecoach and kidnap his childhood friend, Bella Morrow, he discovers his feelings for her are stronger than ever. He suspects Bella feels the same way, so why is she intent on marrying another man? Bella Morrow is on her way home to marry a man her father chose for her. Although she has prayed for a way to avoid the marriage, she's shocked when her stagecoach is attacked and she is kidnapped by a man who seems strangely familiar to her, and secretly pleased to discover her captor is Cade Morgan, the boy she fell in love with when they were barely more than children. But what kind of future can they have when she is betrothed to another man, and Cade is wanted by the law? Book 2 - Trey When Trey Morgan wins half a saloon in a poker game, he heads back to Rocky Ridge, Colorado, to sell his share and move on, back to the life he loves - no responsibilities, no ties. But he doesn't expect his partner to be Claire O'Doyle, a beautiful Irish redhead who captivates him like no other woman ever has. Claire O'Doyle has no use for men like Trey. They remind her too much of the father who abandoned her and her mother. She'd love nothing more than to pay Trey off and get him out of her life. But someone is trying to run her out of Rocky Ridge, and she doesn't need the distraction of a man whose charm makes her forget her vow to stay away from gamblers. As the threats escalate, so does Claire and Trey's attraction to each other. But will Trey walk away? And if he does, will Claire let him go? Book 3 - Zane The west is a dangerous place, especially for a lawman. Zane Morgan, sheriff of Rocky Ridge, Colorado, has accepted this and has resigned himself to being alone. He won't ask a woman to share his life when the odds of him living long enough to raise a family are slim. Priscilla Rowan is on the run. Pregnant and fleeing her preacher ex-husband, she's on her way to California when nature ruins her plans and her child decides to be born sooner than expected. Although she doesn't trust any man, she has no choice but to accept Zane's help and protection until she can move on. As Zane and Priscilla grow closer, Zane discovers protecting her becomes much more than his duty. But when the threat is eliminated, can he convince her to stay without giving up who he is?

Book Did You Hear About the Morgans

Download or read book Did You Hear About the Morgans written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker play an estranged husband and wife, both die-hard New Yorkers; while trying to patch things up, they witness a murder and have to go into witness protection in backwater Wyoming. Encounters with bears, bingo, and rodeo clowns ensue. The fish-out-of-water formula is not particularly inspired, but Grant and Parker are well matched; they're both pros who establish an immediate rapport and comfort with each other, making them persuasive as a married couple who haven't fallen out of love. On top of that, the supporting cast is top-notch: Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) as Parker's snippy assistant, Sam Elliott (Thank You for Smoking) as the Wyoming marshal assigned to protect the neurotic couple, and Mary Steenburgen (Melvin and Howard) as the marshal's tough-as-nails wife are only the most recognizable of the solid ensemble playing the quirky characters surrounding the feuding romantic leads. Writer-director Marc Lawrence previously directed Grant to stronger effect in Music & Lyrics and, in particular, Two Weeks Notice, in which Grant and Sandra Bullock proved surprisingly sparky.
