Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FOLLOW ELIZABETH DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE-AND MEET A WHOLE NEW ALICE. Elizabeth, a twenty-four-year-old interior designer living in Brooklyn, New York, encounters a little more than mental static when she sits down for her morning meditation, feeling disconnected from herself and her reality. As she meditates, she forces herself to confront her inner demons head on-including the darker parts that she would rather keep hidden from others, like her boyfriend, Adam. Her inner conflict leads her down a rabbit hole that is far different from the one she remembers from her favorite childhood story. When Elizabeth reaches the bottom of the rabbit hole, she follows a shadowy figure in a familiar blue dress who taunts her and coaxes her deeper into Wonderland. Unable to release herself from her meditation, Elizabeth chases Alice through Wonderland, guided by clues left by Alice, as well as the dark and strangely familiar characters she meets, like the Cheshire Cat, the Tweedle twins, and the Mad Hatter. In Wonderland, Elizabeth comes face to face with her inner light and darkness, and, finally, Alice-and discovers that Alice's secret might be what she has been searching for all along.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete guide to creating planetary yantras to access their healing and centering benefits • Provides easy-to-follow instructions to create the yantras • Serves as an introduction to active meditation, which focuses the mind while the body is engaged in a meditative activity The tantric art of drawing or painting the nine designs known as yantras is an ancient practice of active meditation that releases positive healing and centering effects. Each of the nine designs corresponds to one of the nine qualities of body and mind essential to well-being: radiance, nourishment, passion, intellect, expansion, bliss, organization, uniqueness, and spirituality. From the basic elements of the square, the circle, and the triangle, dynamic visual meditations unfold as the practitioner works clockwise from the outer elements inward toward the central point of stillness, or bindu, the source of happiness within. An accompanying mantra is recited while preparing each yantra to fully engage the senses in the meditative process. Creating the design that “speaks” most to the practitioner enables its unique healing quality to be transmitted. For example, working on the yantra named “Radiance” cultivates optimism and the self-confidence to succeed in one’s endeavors, while “radiating,” or imparting, one’s inner light to others. This workbook provides an important resource for active meditation, a practice revered for its effectiveness in revealing the spiritual underpinnings of everyday life. The active participation of the body in meditation while creating the nine planetary yantras raises to the level of spiritual ritual the practitioner’s intention toward wakefulness and gives access to profound states of healing integration.

Book Foolproof and Other Mathematical Meditations

Download or read book Foolproof and Other Mathematical Meditations written by Brian Hayes and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A non-mathematician explores mathematical terrain, reporting accessibly and engagingly on topics from Sudoku to probability. Brian Hayes wants to convince us that mathematics is too important and too much fun to be left to the mathematicians. Foolproof, and Other Mathematical Meditations is his entertaining and accessible exploration of mathematical terrain both far-flung and nearby, bringing readers tidings of mathematical topics from Markov chains to Sudoku. Hayes, a non-mathematician, argues that mathematics is not only an essential tool for understanding the world but also a world unto itself, filled with objects and patterns that transcend earthly reality. In a series of essays, Hayes sets off to explore this exotic terrain, and takes the reader with him. Math has a bad reputation: dull, difficult, detached from daily life. As a talking Barbie doll opined, “Math class is tough.” But Hayes makes math seem fun. Whether he's tracing the genealogy of a well-worn anecdote about a famous mathematical prodigy, or speculating about what would happen to a lost ball in the nth dimension, or explaining that there are such things as quasirandom numbers, Hayes wants readers to share his enthusiasm. That's why he imagines a cinematic treatment of the discovery of the Riemann zeta function (“The year: 1972. The scene: Afternoon tea in Fuld Hall at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey”), explains that there is math in Sudoku after all, and describes better-than-average averages. Even when some of these essays involve a hike up the learning curve, the view from the top is worth it.

Book A Good House Is Never Done

Download or read book A Good House Is Never Done written by John Wheatman and published by Conari Press. This book was released on 2002-12-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Meditations on Design, best-selling author and San Francisco-based interior designer John Wheatman introduced one of his favorite themes: "A good house is never done." Now, he explores this theme in depth and shows readers how to work with their homes as living spaces that change and evolve as their own lives do. A Good House Is Never Done is organized around the six main activities most of us do in our homes: Sleeping, Dining, Playing, Bathing, Cooking, and Working. For each of these broad topics, the author shares a wealth of design ideas, both abstract and practical, that will guide readers toward creating living spaces that are functional as well as beautiful. With his refreshingly irreverent attitude toward design "rules," John Wheatman invites readers to reject the conventional concepts of "living room," "dining room," "kitchen," "bedroom," "bathroom," and "study." Rather than divide your home into confining and static boxes, he advises, dare to think of your life and the way you live it in expansive terms. Design flexible living spaces that accommodate your dreams and not just your life circumstances or income. Gorgeous, practical, inspirational.

A Drawing Meditation is not your average work of art. Each piece begins with a specific theme, however, the end product is unknown and materializes as the 'meditation' ensues. My work is based upon a moment-to-moment concentration of each form and how it might progress and flow with each additional shape. Every drawing is completely unique. I like to think that the drawings decide how they will manifest themselves - I simply sit back, draw, and observe what unfolds. Enjoy your 'meditation', your day, and this moment. Book Meditations ANNOTATED

  • Author : Marcus Aurelius
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2019-10-23
  • ISBN : 9781701915374
  • Pages : 232 pages

Download or read book Meditations ANNOTATED written by Marcus Aurelius and published by . This book was released on 2019-10-23 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meditations (Medieval Greek: Τὰ εἰς ἑαυτόν, romanized: Ta eis heauton, literally "things to one's self") is a series of personal writings by Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD, recording his private notes to himself and ideas on Stoic philosophy. Marcus Aurelius wrote the 12 books of the Meditations in Koine Greek as a source for his own guidance and self-improvement. It is possible that large portions of the work were written at Sirmium, where he spent much time planning military campaigns from 170 to 180. Some of it was written while he was positioned at Aquincum on campaign in Pannonia, because internal notes tell us that the first book was written when he was campaigning against the Quadi on the river Granova (modern-day Hron) and the second book was written at Carnuntum. It is unlikely that Marcus Aurelius ever intended the writings to be published and the work has no official title, so "Meditations" is one of several titles commonly assigned to the collection. These writings take the form of quotations varying in length from one sentence to long paragraphs.
