These facts, indeed, afford conclusive arguments for enforcing on you the importance of closely watching every attack of illness that may invade the body while it is so frail; but they alone would scarcely be adequate reasons for my bringing these diseases under your notice as objects for special study. Book Diseases of Infants and Children Classic Reprint

Download or read book Diseases of Infants and Children Classic Reprint written by Henry Dwight Chapin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-23 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of Infants and Children This volume has been written by teachers who feel thfi contact with students has made them fairly familiar with their Probably the first requirement at present is to brin medicine into as compact a form as is consistent with a thorough presentation of the subject. Our aim has been to accomplish this with pediatrics. To many, the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of infants and children are most perplexing. These difficulties can only be overcome by first sharply differentiating the anatomical and physiological peculiarities of the infant and child, and then consider ing their practical bearings. The student must be familiarized with all the more recent tests, as well as the older practical bedside experience, in the study of disease. He will then, by a systematic examination of the patient, be able to make a scientific diagnosis. He must also be taught to treat rationally and with a distinct purpose in mind. We have aimed to present the subject in this way, and thus to make the work as practical as possible. The physician needs such a description of disease as he will actually encounter at the bedside. Where pictures can serve as a type, we have used illustrations, most of which are original. Theory and pathology have only been considered in so far as may be necessary to an understanding of the diagnosis, course and treatment of disease. We have tried to take a middle course between the compendium, which is usually unsatisfactory, and a too exhaust ive work, which, by dwelling overmuch on theory and exceptions, tends to confuse the reader. Our thanks are due to our hospital assistants, Drs. Dennett and Albee, for their help during the progress of the work. While a book of this sort must be indebted to all the workers in pediatrics, whom we have freely consulted, our personal experience at the Infants' and Children's Wards of the New York post-graduate Hospital, and in private practice, has formed the essential basis of our description of the diseases and their treatment. Book The Surgical Treatment of the Diseases of Infancy and Childhood Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Surgical Treatment of the Diseases of Infancy and Childhood Classic Reprint written by Timothy Holmes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Surgical Treatment of the Diseases of Infancy and Childhood Tin second edition of this book has been so rapidly called for, that I have not been able to make those changes in its main features which advancing experience always introduces into practical surgical works. The bulk of the succeeding chapters, therefore, will be found to be in substance the same as those of the first edition. I have, however, endeavoured to avail myself of some of the suggestions of my critics for the improvement of this book as a practical guide to children's surgery. Thus, having found that the omission of orthopaedic surgery is considered in many quarters to diminish its value, and learning from the publishers that the necessary increase in size will not be objectionable, I have added a chapter, in which I have tried to summarise in the smallest possible compass the main points connected with this wide subject. In deference also to a French critic I have added a few pages on thoracentesis. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Surgical Treatment the Diseases of Infancy and Childhood It would be ungrateful of me not to acknow ledge how much I am indebted to my colleagues at the Hospital for Sick Children - particularly Mr. T. Smith - for much valuable assistance, and to the Managing Committee for indulgence extended to me of late when I have been prevented from rendering much active service to the Hospital. Circumstances compel me to sever my connexion as Surgeon with that admirable Institution; but I was unwilling to resign my office until I had given this proof to my colleagues that I had at any rate attempted to use the opportunities so liberally afforded to me. Book Treatment of Diseases of Infancy and Childhood

Download or read book Treatment of Diseases of Infancy and Childhood written by Charles H. Goodwin and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Treatment of Diseases of Infancy and Childhood: With Over Four Hundred Formulae and Prescriptions In this volume the author has essayed to give a thoroughly practical, and at the same time concise, resume of the treatment of the various diseases incident to childhood. His apology for the work must rest upon the very large number of requests from subscribers to the previous volume on Treatment of Heart and Lung Diseases. From the numerous investigations that have recently y been made in infantile diseases, and the light that has been thrown upon them, great improvement has developed in the methods of treatment. It is these recent and more advanced practical therapeutical views of the several leading medical authorities of New York City, and which in their experiences are the most approved and the most successful, that the author has endeavored to place before the general practitioner, fully and in the minutest detail and yet with the most careful discrimination. Among medical publications the author knows of none similar in character to this, and it is earnestly hoped that the work will prove a useful one to the profession.
