Book Inorganic Reaction Mechanisms

Download or read book Inorganic Reaction Mechanisms written by A. McAuley and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 1977 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text provides a general background as a course module in the area of inorganic reaction mechanisms, suitable for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate study and/or research. The topic has important research applications in the metallurgical industry and is of interest in the science of biochemistry, biology, organic, inorganic and bioinorganic chemistry. In addition to coverage of substitution reactions in four-, five- and six-coordinate complexes, the book contains further chapters devoted to isomerization and racemization reactions, to the general field of redox reactions, and to the reactions of coordinated ligands. It is relevant in other fields such as organic, bioinorganic and biological chemistry, providing a bridge to organic reaction mechanisms. The book also contains a chapter on the kinetic background to the subject with many illustrative examples which should prove useful to those beginning research. Book Mechanism of Inorganic Reactions Bridge Mechanism in Electrochemical Oxidation and Re Duction of Metal Ions

Download or read book Mechanism of Inorganic Reactions Bridge Mechanism in Electrochemical Oxidation and Re Duction of Metal Ions written by Reynold T. Iwamoto and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following report covers research from June 1, 1961 to December 31, 1962. To obtain information fundamental to understanding the mechanism of inorganic oxidation-reduction reactions, in par ticular of those involving a bridged activated complex, use of nonaqueous solvents and of an electrode was proposed. An investigation of var ious carboxylic acids as electron mediators in inorganic electrochemicala dation-reduction re actions was begun. A reaction between Cu (II) ion and Cu metal in acetic acid was uncovered. When Cu metal is added to an acetic acid solution of Cu (II) perchlorate, the color of the solution was found to change almost immediately from a pale blue to an intense violet. The purple pro duct was isolated and contains a Cu (II) and a Cu (I) ion. A study of the polarographic be havior of Ni (II) in acetonitrile in the presence of chloride was made to obtain information on how the coordination sphere around an ion influences behavior of the ion in solution. One of the important problems in the studies on the nature and behavior of inorganic ions in nonaqueous media is the effect of residual water. Formation constants of aquo-copper (II) complexes in ace tone were investigated and prepared for publication. (Author).

Book Oxygen Radicals in Biology and Medicine

Download or read book Oxygen Radicals in Biology and Medicine written by Michael Simic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 1064 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the papers presented at the "Fourth International Congress on Oxygen Radicals (4-ICOR)," held June 27 - July 3, 1987, at the University of California, La Jolla. The chapters deal with the phenomena associated with highly reactive oxygen species (hydroxy, peroxy, alkoxy, aroxy, and superoxide radicals, as well as singlet oxygen) and their peroxidation products (hydrogen peroxide, hydroperoxides, peroxides, and epoxides) as they relate to the fields of chemistry, food technology, nutrition, biology, pharmacology, and medicine. The kinetics, energetics, and mechanistic aspects of the reactions of these species and the interrelationship of oxygen radicals (or any other free radicals) and peroxidized products have been emphasized. Special attention is focused on the mechanisms of the generation of free radicals and peroxy products in biosystems and on the adverse effects of these radicals and products in humans. The topics span the continuum from the simple chemistry of model systems to the complex considerations of clinical medicine. The book also explores the mechanisms of agents that protect against free radicals and peroxy products in vitro and in vivo. These agents include antioxidants used in materials, food antioxidants, physiological antioxidants, and antioxienzymes (SOD, glutathione peroxidase, and catalases). The use of these inhibitors to prevent damage to organs being prepared for transplantation, thereby maintaining the quality of transplanted organs and/or extending their "shelf-life," also is examined.

Book Effect of Applied Electric Fields on the Mechanisms of Oxidation of Metals and Alloys

Download or read book Effect of Applied Electric Fields on the Mechanisms of Oxidation of Metals and Alloys written by Joan B. Berkowitz and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of applied electrical potentials on the mechanisms of hot corrosion have been studied in a potassium sulfate seeded propane/air flame at temperatures of about 1200C. Experiments were carried out with Chromel A (Ni - 20 Cr), Nickel, molybdenum, and tungsten at potentials of 250V D.C. Currents were of the order of milliamps. Both the nature of the corrosion reactions and the rates were found to be functions of electrode polarity. Electron microbe analysis of the Chromel A samples indicated enhanced sulfidation at the anode and enhanced oxidation at the cathode. Alkali metal ions seemed to be strongly attracted to the cathode and repelled from the anode. Experiments up to 1000 volts with Chromel A showed decreased net corrosion at both electrodes. (Author).
