Volume A is produced prior to the Assembly and contains Reports on Astronomy, prepared by each Commission President. The intention is to summarize the astronomical results that have affected the work of the Commission since the production of the previous Reports up to a time which is about one year prior to the General Assembly. Volume B is produced after the Assembly and contains accounts of Commission Meetings which were held, together with other material. The reports included in the present volume range from outline summaries to lengthy compilations and references. Most reports are in English.

Book Cosmic Rays

    Book Details:
  • Author : Steff Jaywan
  • Publisher : Dedona Publishing
  • Release :
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 26 pages

Download or read book Cosmic Rays written by Steff Jaywan and published by Dedona Publishing. This book was released on with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cosmic rays are an intriguing aspect of astrophysics, originating from various sources in the universe, such as supernovae, pulsars, and even black holes. They consist of charged particles accelerated to incredible energies, often far beyond what our most powerful particle accelerators on Earth can achieve. These particles, when they collide with the Earth's atmosphere, create secondary particles in a cascade of interactions, leading to a fascinating array of phenomena. Studying cosmic rays provides valuable insights into the universe's most extreme environments and processes. They offer clues about the composition of cosmic objects, the nature of dark matter, and the magnetic fields permeating space. Moreover, understanding cosmic rays is crucial for space exploration, as they pose radiation hazards to astronauts and spacecraft. Researchers use ground-based detectors, high-altitude balloons, and even satellites to study cosmic rays from different vantage points. By analyzing the energy spectrum, arrival directions, and particle types, scientists aim to unlock the mysteries surrounding these enigmatic messengers from the cosmos.

Book Towards The Millennium In Astrophysics Problems And Prospects

Download or read book Towards The Millennium In Astrophysics Problems And Prospects written by Maurice M Shapiro and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-12-31 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers a number of areas of high energy astrophysics, focusing on the current status/understanding of the field, outstanding problems to be resolved and, in many cases, new experiments that will be providing some answers after the turn of the century. Featured are the following topics: high energy frontier, including the enigmatic observations of events beyond the cut-off energy; gamma ray bursts — local and cosmological models; high energy astrophysical neutrinos; cosmic ray matter and antimatter; solar system astrophysics; and galactic physics. The discussion is suitable for the nonexpert and expert alike.

Book High Energy Neutrino Astrophysics Proceedings Of The Workshop

Download or read book High Energy Neutrino Astrophysics Proceedings Of The Workshop written by V J Stenger and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-09-30 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of this workshop consideres the prospects for opening up a new window on the universe with the generation of High Energy Neutrino telescopes now under construction or being planned. Potential sources of high energy neutrinos such as binary pulsars, supernovae, and active galactic nuclei are discussed. In particular, the recent model of Stecker and collaborators, in which neutrinos with energies as high as 1000 TeV are produced in measurable quantities in the cores of quasars and other active galaxies is critically reviewed.

Book The Early Universe and the Cosmic Microwave Background Theory and Observations

Download or read book The Early Universe and the Cosmic Microwave Background Theory and Observations written by Norma G. Sànchez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of the Daniel Chalonge School on Astrofundamental Physics is to contribute to a theory of the universe (and particularly of the early universe) up to the marks, and at the scientific height of, the unprecedented accuracy, existent and expected, in the observational data. The impressive development of modern cosmology during the last decades is to a large extent due to its unification with elementary particle physics and quantum field theory. The cross-section between these fields has been increasing setting up Astrofundamental Physics. The early universe is an exceptional (theoretical and experimental) laboratory in this new discipline. This NATO Advanced Study Institute provided an up dated understanding, from a fundamental physics and deep point of view, of the progress and key issues in the early universe and the cosmic microwave background: theory and observations. The genuine interplay with large scale structure formation and dark matter problem were discussed. The central focus was placed on the cosmic microwave background. Emphasis was given to the precise inter-relation between fundamental physics and cosmology in these problems, both at the theoretical and experimental/observational levels, within a deep and well defined programme which provided in addition, a careful interdisciplinarity. Special sessions were devoted to high energy cosmic rays, neutrinos in astrophysics, and high energy astrophysics. Deep understanding, clarification, synthesis, careful interdisciplinarity within a fundamental physics framework, were the main goals of the course.
