Book Bioengineering and Biophysical Aspects of Electromagnetic Fields Fourth Edition

Download or read book Bioengineering and Biophysical Aspects of Electromagnetic Fields Fourth Edition written by Ben Greenebaum and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-11-02 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two volumes of this new edition of the Handbook cover the basic biological, medical, physical, and electrical engineering principles. They also include experimental results concerning how electric and magnetic fields affect biological systems—both as potential hazards to health and potential tools for medical treatment and scientific research. They also include material on the relationship between the science and the regulatory processes concerning human exposure to the fields. Like its predecessors, this edition is intended to be useful as a reference book but also for introducing the reader to bioelectromagnetics or some of its aspects. FEATURES New topics include coverage of electromagnetic effects in the terahertz region, effects on plants, and explicitly applying feedback concepts to the analysis of biological electromagnetic effects Expanded coverage of electromagnetic brain stimulation, characterization and modeling of epithelial wounds, and recent lab experiments on at all frequencies Section on background for setting standards and precautionary principle Discussion of recent epidemiological, laboratory, and theoretical results; including: WHO IARC syntheses of epidemiological results on both high and low frequency fields, IITRI lab study of cancer in mice exposed to cell phone-like radiation, and other RF studies All chapters updated by internationally acknowledged experts in the field

Book Reception and Transmission of Transient Electromagnetic Fields

Download or read book Reception and Transmission of Transient Electromagnetic Fields written by Hans J. Schmitt and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The receiving and transmitting properties of small linear antennas, conical antennas, and loops for transient electromagnetic fields were investigated experimentally. Short electrical dipoles loaded by a capacitance represented by a cathode follower can be used successfully for the measurement of transient fields with rise times of less than 1 nanosecond, if the first antenna resonance is suppressed by a series resistor at the base of the antenna. The currents induced on nonresonant structures by transient electromagnetic fields are investigated and their application to a direct measurement of the time sequence of the electromagnetic field is discussed. Signals with a simple and known time dependence such as a unidirectional pulse can be radiated into space if the reflection of current waves at discontinuities of the antenna structure is avoided. In a manner similar to that useful for the absorption of continuous waves in media with a stratified conductivity, it is shown that reflections at discontinuities can be avoided by dipoles with tapered resistive loading. Book Measuring the Radio Frequency Environment

Download or read book Measuring the Radio Frequency Environment written by Edward N. Skomal and published by Springer. This book was released on 1985-11-05 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The radio-frequency environment has an obvious and direct influence on the performance of electronic systems that depend upon the transfer of energy through space for their operation. Examples of such systems include radio communications, radio navigation, radar, and commercial AM, FM, and television broadcast systems. Less obvious, but nonetheless significant, is the influence the radio-frequency environment can have on electronic systems that ostensibly do not depend on the transfer of energy through space, for example, the degradation caused by electromagnetic fields generated by citizens band radios, radars, lightning, power lines, and electrostatic discharges on the performance of computers, process control equipments, automotive elec tronics and biomedical instrumentation. The beneficial and deleterious effects of man-made and naturally occurring electromagnetic fields on biological systems, including human beings, although little understood at present, may have more important long-term consequences than upon in the operation of equipment. As the radio-frequency environment evolves with the progression of the electronic age, the necessity to monitor, measure, and characterize it assumes greater importance. The purpose of this book is to provide, in a single self contained volume, the necessary background and methodology needed to execute a survey of the RF environment. We have included representative data on natural and man-made ambients in a variety of settings, wave propagation fundamentals, instrumentation descriptions, survey procedures, and data ana lysis techniques. Much experimental effort has been expended during this century to es tablish an adequate body of knowledge on the radio-frequency environment.

Download or read book Observing Photons in Space written by Martin C. E. Huber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An ideal resource for lecturers, this book provides a comprehensive review of experimental space astronomy. The number of astronomers whose knowledge and interest is concentrated on interpreting observations has grown substantially in the past decades; yet, the number of scientists who are familiar with and capable of dealing with instrumentation has dwindled. All of the authors of this work are leading and experienced experts and practitioners who have designed, built, tested, calibrated, launched and operated advanced observing equipment for space astronomy. This book also contains concise information on the history of the field, supported by appropriate references. Moreover, scientists working in other fields will be able to get a quick overview of the salient issues of observing photons in any one of the various energy, wavelength and frequency ranges accessible in space. This book was written with the intention to make it accessible to advanced undergraduate and graduate students.
